How hard is Access to Nursing course?

I am enrolled on the one year course, starting in September. My loan is in place and I have a start date but I am beginning to slightly freak out a bit! Am starting to think I won't be able to do it.

My mum has Alzheimers and although she lives independently she needs a lot of support and its down to me mostly. I have a 5yo and a 3yo.

I think I am feeling daunted after being a sahm for nearly 6 years having a few relationship problems too. Probably a midlife crisis to boot. Urgh.

Hi does anyone know if 35 distinctions on access to nursing is good. . Obviously not for me as i would no . But my younger cousin has got 35 . And isnt saying much. So i don't know what to say . As i dont know if she really disappointed or quickly happy

I have just completed mine with learn direct online whilst working full time. I’ve managed to complete it in 9 months, it was hard and I’ve had to be disciplined but I have also learned so much.

I'm currently doing the course, two full days a week and a lot of assignments. Teachers are very helpful and you can email them anytime. My class mates are helpful, we created a WhatsApp group, and all help each other out, outside of college. Fingers crossed the hard work pays off.

I didn't do any chemistry on my course but the people that did said it was really tough, so I would recommend dojng some prework in that area!

Enjoy it.

I finished mine last year. It was 1/3 biology, 1/3 psychology and 1/3 health studies. Starting uni next month.

(BTW, this thread is 2 years old so the old posters may be long gone )

I can't wait , been trying to find out a bit of info like what sort of things wel cover so I can get reading up ahead , iv got to do my GCSEs maths too , with 4 children and a job 😬
But we're woman and we can do this !

Everyone is saying the same which is good. Yeah my rota is a lot of biology and chemistry amongst others. Looking forward to it.

Think every college does it slightly differently but I had to do biology as part of mine, and I had to choose 2 other subjects (out of 4). I did psychology and sociology. On top of those subjects we did academic skills which was just how to write an essay, references etc etc.

I'm due to start mine in a couple of weeks too and am also after some info on what in entails ? Iv heard it's a lot of biology ? X

I completed the course last year. I did 2 full days a week at college and did lots of study at home. I didn't find the work particularly difficult but it was intense, generally i had one assignment to complete a week (at least!).

Hi guys, I start an Access to Nursing course this month and was wondering if anyone has done this before? I'm looking forward to it, but starting to doubt myself. I know its a pretty intensive course. any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I've just finished access to nursing and midwifery and am due to start uni in March

I have 2 dc, work pt, have unhelpful in laws, my mum died on day 2 of the course, November I had appendicitis, January wrote off me car, February had held hostage at knife point and had a bad year depression wise but I still passed.......its def doable

How did it go? was the course full time?

I am currently looking for a part time one as I can not afford to give up work as a lone parent.

Got 18 credits at distinction and waiting to hear about the last 3 - fingers crossed! Got a week off between semesters - new semester starting Monday. Feeling pleased that I managed to make it so far - has been the most rewarding and enjoyable educational experience of my life so far. met some great people to boot.

Holly its hard but definitely very doable - go for it I say!! there's a student who needs all distinctions for midwifery and she's succeeding - she is super organised tho ( unlike me..)

well done Caykon! have applied to uni just waiting to hear about an interview managed to get all work in so fsr but got exams for the next 2 weeks. really love it but feeling guilty about time spent away from boys while working - and being preoccupied when I am with them!! hopefulli should have 12 credits at distinction in the bag at the end of this semester. the other9 are still all to play for!!

Glad you're enjoying it. I'm looking into access to he courses for September this year with the hope of going onto university afterwards but the degree asks for all units to be distinctions

Glad it's going well for you, I'm also loving it. Luckily my work is all in now, that needs to be done before Christmas, got till 13th jan before next essay due :-) have you applied to uni? I hot accepted at my first choice last month and that has really spurred me on.

checking in! absolutely love it but feeling massively under pressure and doubting myself a bit. have a lot to get done before Christmas hols and doubting that i'll get it done. I have worked every opportunity at home but dh works evening and wknds so its frustrating that I can't work as much having 2 young boys. love my fellow students we have really bonded - just need to feel worthy of my place and confident about my ability to get it done. have been disappointed with some marks (merits rather than distinction) but its a learning curve just to figure out what you need to do to get the extra marks. hum ho! got distinction for a presentation today tho'

good luck with it. Some of my colleagues did the access course and it was quite challenging. I was lucky that my a levels were recent enough that I didn't have to do it.

but I've been qualified for nearly 14 years now and it's fab

I haven't done it but just wanted to say you will be fine.

Stay on top of your work and reassure yourself that you can do it (like you would a child!). Success is down to mental attitude more than anything else.
