How old is your dc? Last year my dd was 12 and her younger brother 7. In the holidays she held holiday activity days for up to 7 of his friends at a tenner a head. She planned a full 4.5 hrs of activities, such as baking and party games, but obviously I was there all the time to supervise (/tidy!). We even offered free wraparound (ie plonked in front of tv after a busy day!) for those who needed it for work reasons. She got £210 and I think we'll try that again this year as it was good fun x

@CakeAndABath we did a concert with my DS’s local theatre friends, and a just giving campaign. Both were very successful. We’re lucky he qualified for a talent aid grant too. It’s been a struggle for us to make everything work but it’s ultimately been 100% worth it as he’s gained so much experience

@NCMO2Gmy DC said that Everyday has one main role and the rest are cast members? Does your DD have a main role in the local production? My DC was in a local Pantomime which was a fantastic experience for her.
The NYMT experience is great but it is not the only experience.

We have booked DD onto one of the skills workshops in August, Canterbury. She was recalled for NMW but then offered skills. We decided to go ahead and take the opp as imagine the training will be really valuable and hopefully she’ll gain a lot. She’s 15, first time auditioning for NMW. Does anyone know how many YPs are usually on the residential courses?

Selling things on Vinted could also be a good way of raising some funds if they’re willing to have a clear-out!

DS held a second hand book sale at his weekly theatre school, at pick- up time (with their blessing of course). Other parents were very kind in buying children's books for younger siblings, and adult books basically just to support. He made about £200 and we decluttered our house temporarily!

I wondered if anyone could share ways their dc has successfully raised money to take part? We’ve brainstormed and come up with the usual cake sale/washing cars/odd jobs for family so more ideas would be really useful. Ds excited to be in a show but I’m now a bit nervous about the cost. We wouldn’t qualify to apply for funding.

Yes we didn't receive anything from Rolecall either and I emailed them late yesterday, but obviously haven't heard back yet

Hi - your daughter should have received an email from Rolecall with a link to accept her place. My DD's came through shortly after the original email. Worth checking with them if it hasn't come through.

Yes, my DD did the NMW Windsong last year and they performed I think three or four short extracts from that to parents at the end. Maybe lasting about 25 mins.

My ds did the Lightning Boy workshop. We went down for the presentation, which was about an hour shared with the skills workshop that was on the same week. We saw everything they had worked on. It was lovely.

Definitely an extract of the piece is performed to parents etc at the end of the week when they come to pick up.

Hi. Thanks for all the info we've gleaned from this thread! This is our first time navigating the NYMT process. Child has been offered the new musical workshop School Play. Just wondered whether anyone knew whether new musicals get performed to parents or anything at the end of the week? (Thinking through what leave we need to book etc)

Hi folks, that's for all the info and friendly supportive chat. It has been helpful to follow quietly. Our daughter (is that dd???) is amazed to be offered a NMW.. they said a casting email will follow so we are now waiting on that. Any knowledge how long this takes? Congratulations everyone for all our kids putting themselves out there and I hope those who are disappointed this time are feeling alright and ready for the next opportunity today. Xx

I have great respect for local grouos and some out on phelnomensl shows. But this is a national opportunity.

it’s like the difference between playing for a local football team or being picked first the England squad. Or competing in county athletics as opposed to the British championships.

@doesanybodyhaveamap this is really helpful thankyou. The local group are also a fantastic opportunity and trying to deliver a similar level of support for the local yp' by bringing in a west end MD and lots of training but obviously it is not NYMT. They are being understanding of my dd's offer from NYMT as they know what it means.
@redgee thanks for you reply, I hadn't considered that about future years, good advice. It is really hard to know what to advise her to do. I have emailed NYMT to see what her options might be too. will have to sleep on it. lesson learnt though! thanks @Truetoself

Is nymt and bymt both considered similar and both difficult to get into to? This is our first year auditioning and we opted out of nymt (it clashed with show rehearsals) and did bymt instead. Getting offered a production in this summer. My daughter has also been back and forward with deciding to go as she has a summer clash too. But I think bymt is worth it.
