I have an adjacent question to the one asked by @nogoingbacktothefuture

My DD is 13 is and doing the Unbound NMW at Easter. I just wondered whether anyone on here has a similar aged child doing this project. She is happy being with people who are older/younger, but I was just interested to know.

nogoingbacktothefuture · 17/03/2026 22:38

Hi do NMW have a wide age spread? Will there be a mix of older and younger members or do some skew older/younger. YP has been offered an alternative NMW as couldn't do the original offered and is worried there will be less teens their age having seen offers on instagram etc and it will be younger. TY

Operasingerkath · 17/03/2026 19:11

@Mumster40 our GP has just posted on Facebook about this. They said, if your child was born before May 2015, they will not have had a vaccination, and a vaccine is not currently available for adults so it’s a case of watching for symptoms.

I’m sure that the pastoral team will be preparing just in case it’s still a problem at Easter. Thoughts with those affected so far, it’s awful.

Mumster40 · 17/03/2026 15:32

I believe that these days a vaccine should be offered to children in year 9. However, mine was never offered this...... I'm also not sure whether that vaccine covers this strand anyway. I will email my doctor's surgery for advice as I think young people can be vaccinated up to age 25. I agree that there is time to properly assess the situation before the 7th arrives. I'm sure a contingency plan will be in development as I know how much care pastoral take with our young people.

Keeping everything crossed for the musicians today x

On a separate note - anyone else concerned about the awful meningitis outbreak in Kent? My heart goes out to all those affected. The Canterbury rehearsals are very close. We got an email from Ben today saying that they were closely monitoring the situation so that was reassuring. I also know that NYMT will put everyone’s safety first. Do you think they would move venues if necessary?

Yes, that was in our email too and has been on my mind. I think there is probably enough time between now and then though to get it under control and I guess all we / they can do is monitor it for now. It's so unbelievably sad and scary. I'm hopeless and can't remember which vaccinations my children have had - is Men B now standard, I know one was introduced about 10 years ago...

Sorry to hear that but do tell him to try again next year. My son was also rejected his first year of auditioning but went on to play for 2 other shows and two concerts with NYMT.

GinniMcGinface · 17/03/2026 12:31

Just to add that this was our first year auditioning and DS enjoyed the process and won’t be overly disappointed. He’ll try again next year.
Good luck to everyone else waiting- sending positive vibes over the airwaves to you all!

GinniMcGinface · 17/03/2026 12:10

We’ve had an email of rejection for musician - just received.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 17/03/2026 12:02

Still no news… but a memory popped up on my FB this morning from a few years back and it seems today was the day that year.

i believe the application process for creatives is similar to the tech pathway. They had a joint zoom call where Chris and Jordan talked them through the opportunities available, and coached on how to put together a CV and supporting letter. They then went away and prepped/submitted those documents. For technical there was then an individual zoom interview with Jordan. Creatives were called in to take part at the actor recall sessions in Feb.

Are musicians still waiting on tenterhooks for outcomes???

Thanks for this, all really interesting. I wondering if they're allowed to audition to audition as a performer in the same year, or just have to choose one path or another...
Good luck to all musicians waiting! Any news yet?
We received DR'S info pack for Unbound this morning- exciting times! I was curious about staff list though - where is Chris?!

if the workshop finishes at 4pm the family is invited from 3 to watch a performance with all
leaving at 4

Wigeon · 17/03/2026 07:29

DD did a NMW last year - it did finish on whatever time they said on the schedule on every date. The final day had a performance for the parents and I can't remember whether that was after the official finish time. I think the schedule said the official finish was (say) 5pm and then we were told we could come at 4pm for the performance.

I think you'd need to double check the time of the performance and finish time on the last day.

Beedybong · 16/03/2026 17:30

Question for people who's children have done new musical workshops: If we're told 4pm finish time, is it safe to arrange travel with this in mind? Will there be some sort of a presentation, and if so, would that be before the 4pm pick up time?

Thanks!

MxPickles · 14/03/2026 17:23

Checking back and hoping for some amazing news for the musicians. Hoping you get the results you want soon :)

doesanybodyhaveamap · 14/03/2026 12:45

Yep, still waiting!

Mcmumager · 13/03/2026 23:18

The assistant choreographer applicants were at the recall auditions. I think for the show they applied for they assisted. Lots of great applicants. No idea on numbers v places but know of some who hoped for one show but offered another they were delighted to get.

Comefromaway · 13/03/2026 22:08

Yes, fees are the same except I think they are cheaper for designers as they don’t do Easter

seventwelve25 · 13/03/2026 20:28

On another note, it's been lovely seeing posts on Instagram with news of all the assistant creatives. Dd has mentioned that in the future she might like to try to Assistant choreographer. I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of the process? Also, just curious as to whether the fees are the same as a performer for a show (I'm assuming so as the same amount of time?). And the competition?! This would be a fair way off for us as dd is only 13 at the moment, but it would be interesting to know!

seventwelve25 · 13/03/2026 20:06

Yes, and I guess a lot of the time ethnicity really makes no odds, but is fairly crucial to the story line for WSS

Truetoself · 13/03/2026 18:42

@Mcmumagerin this day and age mainstream theater is so not “ethnicity appropriate” because I guess otherwise majority of the characters will be white?

Mcmumager · 13/03/2026 12:04

I did think this might happen for sharks. NYMT are trying to do the right thing and cast with the appropriate ethnicity. I would expect they just didn’t get the right people in the room. If there is a slight clash they might be able to accommodate I guess for the right people as the shark boys will have less to do than say the jet boys so they could maybe schedule rehearsals accordingly.
