Does anyone know what the types of outcome can be please for NYMT? If you audition do you always get something? Is the something skills week or residential two weeks? Or are there other outcomes? Thanks

Sooooo its almost time! Is this first weekend of the in person B/NYMT workshop auditions? We are booked for the end of Jan and start of Feb so still a few weeks for us yet.

Wanted to quickly ask, I noticed up thread someone mentioned the dates of the NYMT productions. Can anyone link me to where we can find out what the anticipated dates are for the various projects? I couldn't seem to find it on the NYMT website. (I know BYMT haven't announced their shows yet so no info available!)

Thanks for the thread - only just found it and realised it's time to apply! I'm hoping DD16 will apply again (musician); she was eventually accepted last year but we couldn't manage the dates.
This year we are awaiting the date of SIL's wedding in August so still don't know if we'll be available, even if she gets in 😬.

HNY everyone! Joining in for the 2026 biscuit eating shenanigans…..Just saw that NYMT have announced another show The Ragged Child to be performed at The Rose Theatre Kingston. This is quite exciting as I saw NYMT perform it over 30 years ago…!

Hello! Checking in here after a break from these threads. DC both did NYT last year and didn't try out for NYMT last season. Going to give NYMT another bash this time as have done BYMT twice but haven't been successful in getting accepted for NYMT so far. Fingers crossed! Break a leg to all for the auditions.

Agreed, the auditions themselves are great fun, and really useful experience, especially the NYMT ones as you get the whole day.

Thanks @Biscuitsneeded - let's hope the audition goes well for Nymt and they get a new musical workshop offer then! We gambled with dates and lost this year, lol.

Re BYMT, just had a quick look again and it seems there are Easter and Summer productions so perhaps a Summer production with BYMT would be an option should the audition go well. Oh well, either way, we always view the auditions as the experience itself as always valuable, no matter the outcome!

And sometimes BYMT do an actual production at Easter, but they don't tend to have rehearsals then for summer shows. Do they have any details of next year's programme on their website?

If you can't make the Easter residentials you cant be in the shows that are rehearsing then. But you could still be in a workshop. If that's still an attractive option, just make clear on your application when you are unavailable.

I’ve realised that my child has a clash for the Easter dates as they are in another production already with mandated rehearsals for the exact same dates - does that mean that they definitely can’t be in any production should they get through auditions? They did one of the New Musicals workshops last year and loved it so maybe that could still be an outcome if those aren’t in Easter hols? We knew we were gambling when they audition for this other production and it just doesn’t seem like it will work out this year😥

And after all the reading here last year (it was our first year) we also booked to audition with BYMT too - does anyone know whether they do Easter dates too?

If she's applying as a musician she probably wouldn't even miss a day as the band generally arrive a couple of days later. Maybe do the audition and declare her availability, and see what happens!

Yes, August is free after the 8th and DD could manage back to back residentials, I only thought NYMT would not allow missing a day.

So NCO is up to and including 8th August, but your young person is free after that? The summer residentials often start a day or two later for musicians. I would say apply as a musician but make clear you can only do Every Day.

We were thinking about Just So or music for WSS but sadly they're a full clash with NCO, either in rehearsal or production. Every Day starts on 8 August which is NCO concert day 😞

The NYMT summer shows will all have different start dates. Don't be put off auditioning just because you can't make the first day of one of them.

We thought of applying for both strands, DD does lots of music and dance but not so much acting except drama at school. She's never played in the pit yet and would love to have this experience but would also enjoy more dancing, singing and acting.

She's in another national project that clashes with summer dates 😞 unless NYMT lets a musician miss the first day (unlikely I guess).

I've realised we cannot make most of the dates because of NCO but what are New Musical Workshops? They say "Our residential New Musical Workshops are an opportunity to shape the journey of a new piece of music theatre by learning and performing new songs and scenes while giving crucial feedback to the composer and writer.", does it mean they are mostly for older teenagers and YP who can give meaningful feedback? What sort of feedback are they looking for?

So here we are again! However my DD isn't free at Easter now the dates have been released for that - they are performing. Is there any point in going to the audition? Do you think we could get someone else to fill the place?

Hi @RunningOnTeaAndChocolate my DD did the NYT audition last year and I'm not sure that there was a confirmation email - you could try emailing them as they are usually very quick to respond. Best wishes for the audition for your YP.

Has anyone signed their young person up for NYT auditions this year? I thought I had done the form but haven't received a confirmation email. Just wondering if anyone else has the same experience?
