Keeps me awake at night.

I mean honestly, we could probably rename this thread The Overthinkers’ Club 😂

Are you trying to take my Overthinking Queen title...?

How very dare you...

I think I might be in this race too, sorry….

Thank you so much! Every year the audition cycle is so different - last year we were sitting on waitlist for BYMT until about April. NGL I am so relieved to not have that scenario this year as I am not very good at "wait and see".

Just the small matter of a NYMT recall to get through now and I may be able to relax. Who am I kidding. I'm going to continue to overthink everything as I always do!

I have discovered a lot of fabulous musicals through NYMT over the years. The fact they range from the very well known, to the beautiful but more obscure, and then to the absolutely brand new, is so special. My own DS had a very lucky run of being in new shows that got a cast recording - as you can imagine, I treasure those. I really hope Team Lightning Boy get to produce their own.

Congratulations to all the DC getting good news from BYMT, and break a leg to the NYMT recallers on Sunday!

seventwelve25 · 13/02/2026 20:26

Yes, best of luck to all those at recalls this weekend and next! Dd isn't until 21st, but that's possibly preferable as a shorter wait the other side! Once again this year, I find myself so grateful to NYMT for introducing me to yet another gorgeous musical! Dd was recalled for Lightning Boy last year and we were lucky enough to access a recording of the songs, which we absolutely fell in love with (over the moon that they're now well on their way to a cast recording). This year, it's Just So. I'd never heard it before - so gorgeous! Even my younger ds is now requesting to listen to it every bath time! Whatever the outcome for us, pretty sure we'll be visiting Birmingham in August for this one!

Mumster40 · 13/02/2026 18:58

Lovely news about all the BYMT offers! Good luck to those still auditioning on Saturday and for those with recalls on Sunday. My DC has one on Sunday too. Going to be a long wait until the end of February……

As an aside, the only time my DC auditioned for BYMT (horrid mid teen casting bracket) they were waitlisted until mid April. So be prepared. DC didn’t end up doing a show in the end as we booked a holiday!

Operasingerkath · 13/02/2026 18:11

Just wanted to say break a leg to everyone with recalls for NYMT - my DS is on Sunday!

and congrats to all the BYMT people who have offers, and sending biscuits to those still waiting 🍪

MxPickles · 13/02/2026 13:22

Congratulations on the offer :)

The waitlist question and/or moving shows isnt easy to give a definite answer... BYMT will try and be flexible to give as many YP as possible the best possible chances of taking up an offer but experiences can vary wildly.

I would say if your DC is in an age group which is more competitive (younger teen girls - of which my DD is one) then the wait can be longer than less "full" categories (older teen boys I'm looking at you here!) A note that this is just my opinion and not a fact!

After NYMT offers come out in about 2 weeks there will likely be a bit of movement so you may have a better idea by the first week of March.

If its an option for you financially and your DC would be happy with it I suppose an option would be to accept the BYMT place you have been offered on the understanding you would like to be considered for a transfer to a summer show if spaces become available. If no production space becomes free then you would still always have the camp I guess? I dont know if this is an option for you or if BYMT would agree to it, but this the the avenue I would explore!

Good Luck and let us know how you get on :)

EweCee · 13/02/2026 13:02

We got the BYMT show offer! It had gone to my daughter's email, which she - thankfully - hadsn't seen because... its for Cottingley Fairies at Easter and those are the dates she can't do due to this other regional production! Gutted... so regretting her auditioning for this regional production; its blocking so many other things now 😪

Does anyone know the chances of getting in another BYMT show if you turn down one which then places you on the second stage offers list?

MxPickles · 13/02/2026 12:36

anyonefancythetheatre · 13/02/2026 11:25

Thank you. We have had an offer of a summer production after their first interview. But potentially offered an show we werent expecting location wise. Shes ND so wanting to see how much info we can find out about the whole process before we commit. Seems like an amazing opportunity.

My DD is ND and the pastoral are amazing and very switched on. Last year they ordered a box of fidgets to be delivered to rehearsals as someone mentioned it may be helpful!

Ask if you can have a chat with pastoral and I am sure they will be more than happy to put a tailored plan in place if you DC needs say a break out room or scheduled breaks. They are super accomodating and it will in no way affect your DCs casting chances.

ETA Many of the cast at BYMT are ND and a fair few of the creatives also openly identify this way. Im not as familiar with NYMT but from my very positive experience then I should think the same will be the case :)

Very very rough ballpark but typically about 30 performer per production and there are 5 summer shows and 1 Easter Show. I'd put it at about 150 - 180 production offers per 1200 auditionees?

There is a final online audition for BYMT this Sunday but that is the last chance to audition for this season. You can sign up for a camp at any time though as long as spaces aren't sold out :)

Congrats to those with BYMT news - and a huge well done to @MxPickles daughter! Karma has repaid her well with a production recall for NYMT and a show offer from BYMT!

HI everyone First time considering BYMT. Can anyone confirm roughly how many kids get into each production in the summer?

It’s tough waiting and it’s really hard taking the decision not to audition. DD is sitting out NYMT and BYMT this year because she has auditioned for some summer musician camps, which we won’t hear about until mid March so couldn’t commit to any potential dates before then. For BYMT you have to hang in there as they release the results in rounds.

I am loving all the great news on recalls and shows; it certainly looks like it’s going to be a great summer!

EweCee · 12/02/2026 20:51

Thanks @MxPickles - I’ll sit on my hands for another day! and then might drop them an email if we haven’t heard anything.

It’s a roller coaster - how do others manage the ‘bird in the hand’ approach? I.e. audition for a few things and some come through but by doing so, they then exclude other options down the line? My 13yo is struggling with this at the moment and I just say they can’t NOT audition for things in the hope that in 6 months something else MIGHT play out 🤷🏼‍♀️ we gambled this year trying to widen experience because of the difficult 13-16 age range but it’s proving tricky!

I feel this as my DD is also in the twighlight casting zone, and we have had all sorts of outcomes over the years. The BYMT casting process can be hard for some people as it is longer, but that does mean its not a binary yes/no and more offers may well be released over the coming weeks.

Some people decide not to wait it out and go ahead and make other plans for the summer, some people stick with it and see where it leads.

I know its easier said than done (and I've been there) but just trying not to overthink it is probably the best approach. I absolutely overthing everything though so must confess I have never been particularly successful at patiently waiting. Really hope you get the news you are hoping for soon :)

Hi.

  • Has anyone been offered a BYMT Development camp today?
Thanks x

With BYMT you dont have to recieve an offer to take part in a new musical or skills camp. Camps are independent of the audition process and you can sign up for one at any time. You can pick whichever date and location interests you and book on via the website.

If you do get a production offer after signing up for a camp don't worry they will just move your booking across.

In theory everyone should have received audition outcomes today. Any missing emails are likely due to overenthusiastic spam filters rather than it having any deep significance about the type of offer the email contains! EDIT TO ADD: This has been the case in previous years - everyones email goes out at the same time. Only exception is people who did online auditions back in November sometimes get called in early for the Easter Show. It may be different this year and they are doing offers then waitlist but there seems to have been a mix of outcomes released which suggests that most emails have been sent. Only thing I can think of is perhaps last weekends auditionees haven't been processed yet?!

Sorry if that doesn't sound particularly helpful at this time as I know its agony waiting when it seems everyone else has an outcome, but the team are very responsive and I am sure if you message them you will get a personal response with an update. Keeping everything crossed for you and let us know how you et on :)

EweCee · 12/02/2026 20:09

Hi, is any one still waiting to hear from BYMT? We did it for the first time with a later audition at the end of January but haven’t heard anything yet? Or does not hearing mean it’s a no this year? They absolutely loved the BYMT audition so we’re quite keen. Having done NYMT last year for New Musicals (which was incredible apparently) it was nice to try something different. We also have a recall for NYMT New Musicals Workshop this year (sadly another production meant we couldn’t do any April dates so we’re out of the running for any show this year, if they would have been recalled, which is a shame).

DMEAmum · 12/02/2026 17:20

It seems crazy that they can do it that quickly, but that's been the sort of turnaround time for the past few years. In fact, I just looked back at previous emails, and in 2024 the emails were sent on the Weds after the final recall session - so that would work out as Weds 25th Feb this year?! I can't get my head around how they put the castings all together with so much to juggle, but they clearly have had a very efficient process ! Fingers crossed that it works so quickly this year too...

Oh please please let that be so this year! Hoping we all get some good news :)

Biscuitsneeded · 12/02/2026 18:35

Hello @DMEAmum ! Nice to see you here. Has your YP auditioned this year?

Hello!!! Yes, DS is auditioning (recalled for WSS and Every Day) and DD has also applied for production pathway again

Hi it's my daughters first time auditioning this year she did both NYMT and BYMT and has a callback this Sunday for NYMT new musical workshops and has also today recieved an offer for a show with BYMT, She is 13, it says we have to accept by the 27th Feb, for BYMT, does anyone know with NYMT how long after the casting workshop they will let us know?

I'd say there's a good chance you may be lucky and have NYMT news by 27th. If not, it will be a matter of days. Could you reply to BYMT and say you want to accept but you are just seeing whether you can raise the funds before committing? I mean, you might decide you'd rather have a BYMT show than an NYMT workshop anyway, but it seems fairer on you to be able to compare both offers before deciding. And I suppose if finances and dates permit, you could do both! If that's an option and you have your BYMT dates already, you could drop a line to NYMT to say when your DD definitely won't be available, and then if they want to offer her a workshop maybe they can give her one that works for you.
