Starting a new thread as we filled up the old one!

DC 17 is in 6th season with NYMT. Also former BYMTer.

These annual threads have been a source of advice, emotional support and camaraderie for those of us with young performers enjoying everything that these awesome organisations bring.

😁

One shattered and full of happiness girl now home! Ensemble in Tuck is such a fantastic opportunity and experience! Feeling blessed and grateful! She is on top of the world! A fabulous company, beautifully supportive pastoral team and friends being made! Lovely to have three of Catastrophe Bay company friends from last year too! Glass of red wine in hand after the long journey back to Derbyshire! Hope everyone has had a great time and arrived home safe and sound x

@LibbyRuncie was literally coming on to post word for word same as you! Also I think my DD very almost kidnapped your DD back to Ireland with her she was so mad about her!! They will all be so excited to be back together this summer!

Yes I’ve had a few two line texts saying ‘everything great’ and mostly radio silence other than that! It’s always a good sign ❤️

Have not heard a peep from my DD (Fame rehearsals). Luckily they posted a video today so I know she is alright!

Yes mine too! I quite miss her 😭 but know she will be having an amazing time! We got told off as parents for watching videos. I guess it is wait until Thursday!

No news is invariably good news! She's probably just very busy and having fun. 😆

@wonderfullife123 that’s fantastic that they’re together. We were limited because of prior commitments too. It’s still three and half hours for us, but I’ll take that!

well done to your DD @wonderfullife123, I have resigned myself to staying with DD for the two weeks - thankfully she has been accepted to the course that is closer to us.

Well done to your DC as well @yodaforpresident . Think will end up doing the same although now I know my older DC is also doing the same course would probably feel better about them staying together. Good your DC got a more local course unfortunately this far away one was only one that worked date wise . Constant juggling logistics with all this performance stuff!

yodaforpresident · 12/04/2025 14:24

Chopped off half my reply, that should have ended courtesy of DD this week so I will ask her if she knows how it works...

yodaforpresident · 12/04/2025 13:53

Another app 😭I have just discovered the ChatGPT app and it is scarily impressive.

Morning all, fairly new here. DS went to LB rehearsals yesterday. All seems good, though no actual news reported…Canterbury was bathed in sunshine yesterday, so with that and the excitement of getting started, it was a perfect beginning.
DS refused for me to be on band. So any advice re. Ways of having contact re. Hoodies and other things would be great. I assume this is a parent led thing? I may just have to refuse his refusal and just go on band!

Looks like everyone is having fun at the Easter residentials!!

Any hoody chats started up yet? Usually this happens via the show Facebook groups but they don’t seem to have set them up this year. Just don’t want the musicians to get left out cos they aren’t in cast snap/whatsapp groups!

The facebook groups seem to be replaced this year with an app called Band. Not something I’ve seen before- I’m probably just too old 😂

I'm enjoying all the instagram footage from Carousel. They look like they're having a great time.

Us too! They’re all having so much fun, and getting on so well. Even got to see my DS prancing about on it 🎭🎪

Go to Buntastic at the top of the high street, near Waitrose, a short walk from the school. Nice coffee, and buns...!

Ooh lovely! Thank you so much for the recommendation 😊

Quick question re Sevenoaks - we are coming by train on Friday. Think we may have a bit of time to kill- are there any coffee shops near to the school or is it best to stick near the station. Going to have to take a taxi from the station to the school.

My DS only just turned 16 and first NYMT. I confess, I have messaged him for updates regularly (and suspect he’s probably fed up with it!) . Especially to make sure he eats 😬Can I assume your DC is older?

Yes @Livingtheirauthenticlife DC is 18 and very independent!

@Livingtheirauthenticlife you’re getting by much more info than me! I’m working on the no news is good news principle ….

@Biscuitsneeded My DS says everyone is lovely and he’s made some fabulous new friends. They’re getting through the main songs and choreography at a fast pace. It’s very impressive.

Biscuitsneeded · 08/04/2025 18:16

How are the Carousellers getting on?

Livingtheirauthenticlife · 08/04/2025 17:37

Keepcominghome · 08/04/2025 13:05

Thanks - and I see that Carousel tickets are also on sale at City Academy in Birmingham. Does anyone know if that’s walkable from the city centre? I also gather it will be outside - hope there’s some cover if it pours down!

We were thinking the same thing @Keepcominghome! End of August week weather tends to go one of two ways! Do you think there will be accessible parking nearby too?

Comefromaway · 08/04/2025 15:10

definitely walkable. Its just a bit further on than the music shop we always go to when we visit Birmingham (last time we bought a baby grand piano but that's another story!)
