BYMT actively say that audition feedback is available and that is what makes them different.

When the results came out they said that if you wanted feedback you could now email and ask. I wouldn't ask if they hadn't explicity said it was available.

@MxPickles I know NYMT said they don’t give feedback. I am surprised BYMT implied they would?

@Biscuitsneeded - thanks for your reply, that's good advice. Really frustrating that she has this other thing booked otherwise the workshop would be a no brainer!

Hi all... exciting updates from the Easter sessions, and some movement in workshop places it seems - fab news all around.

My DD had a blast with FLIP, and was just sad it was only for a week!

So, reason for hopping back here to post is to ask, has anyone been successful in getting audition feedback from BYMT?

I have requested a few times and initially was told "wait until the casting process is over". Now the casting process is over I have requested politely again and follwed up but not even recieved an email back! Is it just me ?!?!

Great to hear that your DD enjoyed her course. I don't think that NYMT would be sending out invitations to take part in a workshop indiscrimately, so I'm sure your DD genuinely did impress them, and also is the right age or voice type they are looking for. How does your DD feel about it? NYMT would completely understand that you have committed financially to something else in half term. I'd say if your DD is really keen to do it and you can make it work, that's great all round, but otherwise it will not be taken badly if on this occasion she has to say thank you and I loved the course but I'm not free in half term. You could always give her summer availability and emphasise that she would love to do a workshop then if any spaces come up!

Hi everyone - I was on the first thread as DD auditioned for the first time for NYMT and it was useful to hear from more experienced parents. DD didn't get a musical or new musical workshop but she just did the residential skills course (Sevenoaks School) which she absolutely loved and got a lot out of.

Now posting again as it would be great to get more advice from you experienced lot!

We've just had an unexpected email from NYMT saying they have a few places remaining on one of the new musicals workshops (Windsong) during May half term, that DD "made a strong impression" on the skills course with her "creativity, focus and enthusiasm" (but I think that was a genetic para as they refer to her as "they" not "she") and would she like to do the workshop. They've obviously sent this to a few kids.

DD is already booked to do something else during May half term. In principle she can't therefore do the workshop. However, would we be mad to turn it down? We could probably swallow losing the money for the other activity she is booked on, although she's looking forward to doing that thing (non musical theatre related!). From this thread it seems that places on the workshops are very competitive like the shows. Or have they just had some people drop out of the workshop and they are just trying to fill the spaces, and there will be other opportunities? How common is being invited to a new musical workshop after the main auditions are completed? Help!

I'm really glad to hear your DD enjoyed it so much. I hope she will want to audition again next year! If you're anywhere near Birmingham, do consider going to watch an NYMT show this summer.

@Gordons2003 yeah I think a lot of the sessions they did were preparing for the showcase. There was 1 dance piece, 1 singing piece, one MT/acting focused piece, and then one where they put it all together. They also did vocal warm ups/technique every day. The daily dance warm up was apparently a killer, and they did some technique/across the floors in dance. They also had acting through song sessions where everyone got to sing a solo song for the creative team and got individual notes. DD wrote down everyone’s notes and there’s lots of gold in there. They had an audition technique workshop as well I think… it’s very long days and they covered a lot but DD just wished it was longer.

@TheOliveSwan so delighted to hear this. We couldn’t justify offering Easter availability this year as DD has GCSEs so she has a place on the auditioned course. It sounds like just the thing she is after! What sorts of things did they get up to - sounds like they may have presented a little showcase at the end?

@BoilingHotand50something yeah she went to an audition in January, got invited to recall for 2 shows in February, didn’t get cast in a show but was offered this course instead. I don’t have any experience of the non auditioned courses but I’ve got no reason to think they wouldn’t be great after the experiences we have had with NYMT so far 🙂

Hi there. Is this the course you audition for? My daughter is quite keen on going to a BYMT residential course in the summer but there is no audition. Just wondering if this is a similar thing?

Yes he was! Yes my DD has had the best week. They have a mutual friend in common who attends your DS college. It is a very small world in performing arts. My DD will want to do NYMT until age doesn’t permit I think. I am cursing myself for not saying yes sooner.

How awful. Surely the train companies have a responsibility. My son was offered a taxi once.

What a nightmare with the trains! Everyone must be completely shattered! Glad everyone is safe and home now. My DC had an amazing time with Fame! Made some new friends and learnt a great deal. What an experience for them all! Now back to the books and revision…..🫣

My DD had the best time at Fame. I took my younger 2 12 and 6 into central London to meet her and also we were meant to get the train back at 7.30. We had to get to another station and get a delayed train to Manchester and my oh had to drive York to Manchester to pick us up. Got home at 1. We will not be doing much today!

The same thing happened to my DS' girlfriend who was trying to get home from Fame. She got a certain distance and then got stuck. Her mum had to drive to get her and they ended up hosting another NYMT cast member too as she had no way of getting back to where she was trying to go! I guess fires in Stevenage can't be helped...

@Operasingerkathhow horrendous! Glad he has found a solution although not ideal

Well this has been a carry on! DS was supposed get a train from King’s Cross at 7.30pm but they’ve all been cancelled tonight due to the fire at Stevenage. He”s finally on a train to Manchester (the other side of the country). This train was also delayed by 42 minutes! A friend’s son (non-NYMT) was also in the same boat and he’s driving to Manchester to collect them at 12.30am. He will hopefully be home by about 3am! There are serious issues with the trains at the moment and the station staff were not helpful. My DS was basically told he would have to fend for himself and the next train he could get was at 2.30pm tomorrow!

Glad to hear all the DC have had a good time. Can’t wait to pick up my DS from the station tonight to hear all about it! I’m currently assuming he’s not lost in London on his way home as I’ve heard nothing 😂. I’ve been watching clips one of the cast has posted on YouTube so I know he’s definitely had a good time as he’s laughing in every episode

Popping in to give a review of the residential skills course now DD is back home.

She had the best time and came home with a notebook full of valuable notes and advice. I can really tell that she took everything on board, she’s pushed herself and has gained so much insight and confidence from the whole experience. It sounds like the creatives gave everyone equal attention and opportunity, and really cared about making sure each person made progress while they were there. I didn’t get to watch their performance unfortunately, but what she showed me at home and described sounded amazing.

And of course, she cried in the car on the way home because she’ll miss her new friends.
