Starting a new thread as we filled up the old one!

DC 17 is in 6th season with NYMT. Also former BYMTer.

These annual threads have been a source of advice, emotional support and camaraderie for those of us with young performers enjoying everything that these awesome organisations bring.

😁

Anyone else’s kids on here on the advanced workshop week in Kent next week?

SlipperyLizard · 30/07/2025 11:58

Hello, can I ask a question about summer camps? DD is going to the York one next week, and has asked me how many other kids will be there.

Anyone have a rough idea of numbers?

Operasingerkath · 29/07/2025 15:19

Fame seems to be going well so far! Only limited information from DS but there’s a cast member who posts on YouTube and I’ve seen him on there so I know he’s alive 😂. Hope everyone has a great summer season with NYMT and BYMT

Biscuitsneeded · 29/07/2025 10:41

Wishing all NYMT and BYMT participants a great season!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 29/07/2025 08:20

Hope the Famers are having a great time! DC musician dropped off yesterday and excited to watch a stagger through of Act 1 last night!

Hi - my DS says we can watch it in London Theatre direct via YouTube? Have asked him to send me a link!

I'm excited for them! Really enjoying the NYMT insta footage of soundchecks and rehearsals.

Hello All. I haven't posted on here in ages! Wondering if anyone's DC are doing West End Live with NYMT next weekend? I'm hoping there might be footage afterwards for those of us who can't go.

Tough for your DS. I guess there was no way to do it and involve everybody. There will hopefully be other chances to do fun things.

I can't wait to watch your DS and castmates on stage in August!

Yes definitely! We entirely understand they absolutely couldn’t fit everyone in, especially with such a short time slot. I think he’s more disappointed not to be able to go and support them all. Such a great opportunity to showcase everything!

Unfortunately my DS isn’t in the section they’re doing so he won’t be there (very gutted!). We’re hoping it’s on YouTube like last year so we can see too. It’s definitely one of those times when we wish we lived closer to London!

@Advent0rangeI’ve sent you a message via facebook messenger x

We considered the train travel, but she's not quite old enough. Chris very kindly tried to help saying he thought someone would be able to take DD for that weekend, but she's autistic and feels that would be a step too far out of her comfort zone (and possibly mine!)

Comefromaway · 09/06/2025 16:25

That is such a shame, but understandable. Ds was able to travel home on his own on the train as he was older and used to solo train travel.

They will understand that as it was a later offer of a place you have other commitments now.

Advent0range · 09/06/2025 15:57

But honestly, huge thanks to those who gave me information.

Advent0range · 09/06/2025 15:55

Thanks all. Particularly for the Facebook group recommendation! After much investigation and soul searching, we're going to have to decline the place 😭.
It's that damned weekend in the middle when we have to get her from Canterbury to home to Birmingham. Aargh.

I hope they won't hold it against her when she applies next year.

Truetoself · 09/06/2025 09:48

Thanks @yodaforpresident. Was panicking as couldn’t find any booking confirmation but DH has booked and not me

yodaforpresident · 09/06/2025 09:24

I think direct from the Birmingham Hippodrome for those @Truetoself?

Truetoself · 09/06/2025 07:16

GM! Is anyone able to remind me on which platform I would have bought tickets for Fame?

Advent0range · 07/06/2025 14:47

Ok, that's good to know. Thank you. She's a very young 15yo, but I am sure she will enjoy the freedom.

Under 16s are supervised to get their lunch etc. over 16s are different and then over 18s different again. It’s all regulated and follows the law on child performers. Your DD will be well looked after!

yodaforpresident · 07/06/2025 18:55

Well done to your DD @Advent0range. I have a 14 year old DD musician in Carousel and she is very excited! My DD is going to be away for the month of August too @doesanybodyhaveamap but as NYT is no longer residential at least I will get to see her in the morning and evening thankfully. I think that’s a great idea about preordering the food for production week, so hopefully they had enough interest to go ahead.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 07/06/2025 15:19

The pastoral team will keep an eye out and make sure they all eat 🙂

Comefromaway · 07/06/2025 14:39

Both years my son was over 18 so had a little more freedom but show week he had breakfast provided, picked up lunch from nearby shops then had KFC/Macdonalds/Wetherspoons for tea

doesanybodyhaveamap · 07/06/2025 14:26

@Advent0range during production week they get breakfast but are responsible for their own lunch / dinner. DC usually grabs a sandwich lunch from pret or a supermarket for lunch, then they share various take-outs for dinner. This year they are also looking at supplying pre-paid meal plans for those that want a bit more certainty around budget. But they really enjoy the social element of doing their own thing!
