NYMT/BYMT 2025 (Act Two)

Starting a new thread as we filled up the old one!

DC 17 is in 6th season with NYMT. Also former BYMTer.

These annual threads have been a source of advice, emotional support and camaraderie for those of us with young performers enjoying everything that these awesome organisations bring.

Yes my kid had the same as @yodaforpresident - in person I presume might be set up differently but probably asked to do similar things? It was not long after covid for us so a lot was still online. We sent a tape and then had a zoom recall. I think some others had an in person recall as there was a base set up (e.g. in a local school) where they saw everyone. We didn't have one near us - or at least, we were just offered the online recall so that's what we did! Judging by their posts there are more in person now.

We have been told that the audition is a workshop in the morning and then a panel with a monologue (be prepared for redirects) and a Q&A. Only been asked to bring one piece tho x

Quick nymt question. For the shows do the kids stay in their accommodation on the eve following their final show or do they return with you. Is it a Saturday PM or Sunday AM pick up? Thanks!

@MxPickles DD did the video submission audition so they have a second round with a zoom call (first round is a monologue and answering some prepared questions about themselves). I think it works differently to the workshop in person auditions.

Second round ?!? There is a second round?

My kiddo is in next weekend and been told there is a workshop in the morning and then they get a 10 minute slot in the afternoon to present their monologue to panel (is the afternoon slot what you mean by second round?)

I too should like to know the answer to your original question.

No problem @yodaforpresident - it was all online that year but I'm told it's a fairly standard recall for NYT! I think the friend's daughter's other one was to try and keep someone's attention doing her monologue again - and the person on the other end was constantly rolling in and out of the screen on her wheeled chair, so she was meant to do it in a style to draw them in.
I think in general if they want to hear your second piece, it's positive - but not necessarily negative if they don't have time. Hope I'm making sense!

I'm not sure about questions but I know mine was asked to do their monologue and then asked to do it again in different styles - I think asked to do it as though they were a policeman, and then asked to do it as though they were a stand up comedian (it was a serious monologue!). A friend's kid was asked to do theirs as though they were a librarian.
Then they had time for them to do the second piece which if memory serves me right, they had picked a song.

@Sop2 my DC has heard of 3 other violins on Carousel today and they are all lovely! Your DD will have a wonderful time!!

Ah that is so exciting! My DD read for LB and cast in Flip. It really does underline just HOW CLOSE these castings must be sometimes. Great result for her x

Congratulations to all the musicians with offeres, and extra biscuits for those that didn't get the news they had hoped for this time.

Also amazing news from @Mumster40! What an unexpected but fab surprise. Was your DD's original casting workshop for Fame or has this come as a total shock? Just goes to show how close decisions can be sometimes (and how quickly things can turn around!)

@doesanybodyhaveamap unfortunately not, as Carousel and Stagshaw Fayre are on at the same time.

Well done to your DC @QualityStreet5678 and @Sop2 - there have been facebook groups etc in the past, so I am sure something will be set up soon.
