NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

I’ve been lurking because my DS is too young though already discussing NYMT as a future option. This post made me think I should say hello because it’s those exact alumni who have put the idea in his mind! They certainly sing its praises.

But I do have a question I’m sure you can answer! Is it nigh on impossible to get tickets to their shows if you’re not family of a performer, or would I have a decent chance of getting tickets to take him so he could see what they produce?

Thanks and all the best to those auditioning this year!

@CatatonicLadybug Absolutely you can watch the shows! They haven't announced any venues yet, I believe, but the tickets will be on public sale around next May. How old is your DS? My son watched an NYMT show when he was 10 and auditioned a few months later - seeing a show definitely inspired him and helped him understand what the experience might be like. Thanks for joining us - do stick around and hear all about it!

It’s usually quite easy to get tickets, the final night of the popular shows sell out (as its convenient to watch that night as you then have to take your child hike) but other performances are usually fine.

I'm glad you can go @Operasingerkath . It sounds like it will mean a lot to your DS to be there.
Just to switch topic completely, last night at Les Mis, Cosette, Javert, Eponine and Thenardier were all NYMT alumni from the last 12 years. Eponine was in Chess in summer 2022! With other recent alumni currently performing in Phantom, Cabaret, Treason and the Hamilton tour to name but a few, it's so exciting for older company members seeing their friends and castmates succeed in the industry.

Thanks everyone!

And welcome @muckymayhem - hope the production goes well and your child decides to go have some fun at NYMT or BYMT auditions!

Biscuitsneeded · 14/11/2023 20:37

Well done to @allhailthebrain 's DC. Fabulous news!

@DalekFan that’s good 🙂

@Comefromaway it’s maybe as it’s new and not finalised yet but applications are direct and not through ucas and under funding it says:

FUNDINGThe BA (Hons) course offers the following funding options:

  • Private Funding

@Mcmumager I emailed Conti and they confirmed it will be eligible for student loans like their other degree courses.

Aaaarrrrgghh!

My kid just got offered a place at Emil Dale for next September! Auditioned last month, think it’s their top choice for once Y11 is over.

deep breaths…

Congratulations to your DC @allhailthebrain, great news! 👏👏😄

Conti have a good track record of obtaining funding as their FE course fees are funded.
They have been one of the few winners in the HEF shake up as numbers on their existing degrees have been increased.

So I think it has a good a chance as any of being funded. I know in DDs year they have had a few shift to the acting degree due to injuries that are going to cause long term issues, but that has much less singing which I think has highlighted that there is a gap between those two courses that they can fill.

Mcmumager · 14/11/2023 13:24

Comefromaway · 14/11/2023 11:29

All of their other degree courses are SFE funded so there is no reason to beleive that this one won't be also.

wonderfullife123 · 14/11/2023 11:20

Also noticed the course @Lonecatwithkitten and interested to know about funding. V early stages of exploring with DD for a couple of years time.

DalekFan · 14/11/2023 10:54

Yes, have already enquired about that course. Sounds interesting.

muckymayhem · 14/11/2023 08:54

Placemarking - Hello - hope it's ok to join! DD went on one of the BYMT summer camps - must mention to her about auditions but she's in a school production which is taking a lot of time so it's gone on the back burner!

Mcmumager · 14/11/2023 08:48

I saw that @Lonecatwithkitten but it’s not really clear whether it’ll be covered by student finance? We are still in the considering what to apply for stage. Mostly narrowed down but nothing submitted as yet. Stressful times!

Lonecatwithkitten · 14/11/2023 07:51

A slight tangent, but I know some of you have DC who are coming close to looking at professional training.
The week Italia Conti launched a new degree course BA Acting (musical theatre) so less dance content than their current degree course that maybe of interest to some.

yodaforpresident · 13/11/2023 13:44

Anyone else doing the London trek on the weekend to the NYMT Christmas concert rehearsal? We are toying with driving in rather than taking the train as it's a Sunday. Also nice to see the BYMT venues for next year - excellent range of locations.

Biscuitsneeded · 11/11/2023 19:37

@chopc It's not clear, is it? You could always email and ask. Their platform concerts always used to be a platform for some older participants, but the fact that they say 'on tour' suggests it might be different.

OP posts:
chopc · 11/11/2023 14:47

The Platform NYMT on tour - is the is something separate? As in can you do this without doing one of the three shows?

Biscuitsneeded · 07/11/2023 21:42

Hi@Mumofteens20, and welcome. Glad your DD is keen for another go.
Re. the Xmas concert, looks like they are lining up some alumni to come and sing too!

I saw that on Instagram, it's very exciting for them, looks like it'll be a good show. Can't wait
