NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Yes just got recalled for Our House. Very excited and didn't have time to break out the biscuits 😂 well done to your DS 👍🏻

DD just got back from her audition today, said she really enjoyed it and saw a few people from last summers concert and the Xmas concert, which was lovely. Now the waiting begins, need the good biscuits to keep me occupied 😂. Well done to all that have already got through to the callbacks.

@LibbyRuncie Hooray for fabulous NYMT mums. Got to say for all the years it's been running, this thread has always been kind and supportive, with no spats or flounces! Hope it stays that way. NYMT want nice company members, and they are watching for that at auditions and recalls, so parents who model kind, polite and humble behaviour may set their children up for better chances anyway. My DS went to a few West end auditions as a kid (always got a recall, never got the job!) and some of those parents were just jaw-dropping. Mercifully never encountered that at NYMT.

@Shesings2023 too right! They are very resilient. I think because they are in the room and can just see the talent at recalls, they get a realistic gauge. They can't see who's in other sessions so they can't predict who will get which role, but mine nearly always talks about someone who was completely amazing, and they get a good sense of the very high standard. Congratulations to your DD for her recall.

@Shesings2023 as @Biscuitsneeded said not everyone gets recalls and not very one gets a place after recalls. BYMT is an NPO and has access to Arts Council funding, so can offer a few more shows but not all get through there either.

That describes us @Biscuitsneeded ! this is our first year and at the audition a fabulous mum told me loads and I was so grateful to her passing on her wisdom including telling me about this page! It felt really supportive and not at all competitive as I could imagine it could easily be!

@Shesings2023 it has changed a little but no, not everyone gets a recall. Some people will be recalled for a specific show or shows. Some people will be recalled for the new musicals workshops. A third group of people will not get a recall, but this year will be invited to take part in a skills workshop (which is not the same thing as the new musicals workshops) in summer. This year if you do the skills workshop you are still considered part of NYMT company and can possibly have some other opportunities to perform, but there is no need to attend any recalls for the skills workshop.
I don't know what the numbers are like but I imagine that after the recall weekends there will be people who recalled for shows who don't get cast, and similarly people who recalled for the new musicals workshops who also don't get a place. I don't KNOW that for sure but it would be very difficult for them only to recall the exact number needed! I'm sure anyone in that situation will be able to do a skills course and be part of things that way if they choose.
It may look from this thread as if most people get a recall. That's really not the case! I know quite a lot of the posters on here have DC who have done NYMT before. Having done it previously doesn't confer any advantage when it comes to casting, but being chosen once must mean the DC have talent so perhaps it's less surprising if those DC get recalls. I also think some people only find this thread when their child gets a recall and they start googling to find out more about NYMT! On the other hand, some posters may disappear and choose not to say when their DC does not get recalled, which is entirely their prerogative, but it makes it seem as if everyone gets recalled when that's not the case.

Hi Guys, Does everyone get some kind of a recall this year with NyMT I wonder? Has anyone heard of anyone getting a no to a second audition yet or a workshop audition? I know some of your have mentioned it's abit different this year. With all of the recalls for shows do some get nothing from NYMT after recalls I wonder. 🤔
