NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Yes @MxPickles it was my DD who did Naughty Carriage from the reserve list - I think we heard in mid-March.

CatatonicLadybug · 22/02/2024 17:45

So many congratulations for all this happy news! We’ve had most of DS’s summer schedule through and one of the first things he did was compare to the NYMT dates and provided they are venues we can get to, we will have an August full of seeing all your talented performers - he is thrilled at this plan.

Sending good wishes to anyone who didn’t get quite what they were hoping for. Keep the faith - you never know the impression you’ve made here and there and who might think you are just the person for something in the future. Happens more than you might think!

Belshels · 22/02/2024 17:38

Yes I think BYMT are pretty open to swapping shows, worth giving it a try.
My DD had a clash too with the 2 companies in 2020, and NYMT swapped her to the workshop. So I think NYMT seem to do that.

@lindtchocolate congratulations to your son! If money is not an issue, maybe email both companies and see how willing they might be to swap your DS to another project (I have a feeling BYMT are more open to swaps than NYMT because they don't cast the roles at this stage). If you only want him to do one of them, I guess it depends how much it matters to him to do an actual show. Whatever he chooses, he can always have a go at the other one another year!

thank you :)
it seems a bit cheeky but worth asking as you say

@yodaforpresident was it your DD who was cast in Naughty Carriage from the reserve list?

Comefromaway · 22/02/2024 15:17

Is it another name for when they kept people on a waiting list after initial offers/acceptances/rejections had gone out. Eg. we feel you are good enough to be in a show we just need to wait to find out where the available spaces will be?

@OldBrum I think @Comefromaway may be right. The deadline for accepting a place is 8th March so the timing would be right.

DD was on the Reserve List last year and ended up in a Summer Workshop. Someone else (can't remember who sorry) had their kiddo cast in Naughty Carriage from reserve list.

Reserve list can be a nail biting place to be - last year was agony for us, but people do often get cast from it. Keeping everything crossed for you.

Hello
I’d be grateful if anyone could explain BYMT’s second stage casting offer to me please.
My DD has been shortlisted and offered 2nd stage casting in late March

many thanks

I've not heard of them doing this before, is it a new thing? Last time DD auditioned it was 3 years ago mind.

lindtchocolate · 22/02/2024 14:26

hi everyone. ds has been offered a workshop for NYMT and Camelot for BYMT but the dates clash. i'd be really interested in what other people who've done this before think would be the best choice - it's the first time he's got through for either.

yodaforpresident · 22/02/2024 14:09

Very excited here for DD who has been offered Welcome to Serene. Only slight issue is that she is supposed to start her new school on the 30th....

Congratulations to all the DC. I can't believe how quick it has all been this year.

My daughter's friend was the original Alice in Wonderland in Alice when it was performed with the dance company.

It is currently being workshopped at a university and they are experimenting with lots of different directions from what I gather.

Biscuitsneeded · 22/02/2024 13:41

Congratulations to everyone getting good news from BYMT today! Wow, both companies have been so speedy with their news this year! Hats off to them because it can't be easy.

Congratulations to your DD Pickles!! Camelot sounds like a good one👍🏼

My DD has just an offer.for Serene which is in The New Wolsey in Ipswich. She really wanted to go back to Belfast, so will see what she has to say. Looks like an interesting show though, lots of opportunities for idea contribution by the performers I suspect. Improv and ideas are one of her strengths xx

Congrats to your DD, I know you had said they were very attached to the Breadboy series, but the casting team must have something specific in mind for our DC when they allocated them the shows they have. Can't wait to see what it is they have in mind!

I am surprised DD got Camelot as she is most confident in dance so thought perhaps she would be in the running for Wonderland in Alice. Not complaining - just a bit surprised at the outcome. Camelot does seem like a really good show though and I am super excited for her :)

Belshels · 22/02/2024 13:08

Huge congratulations to everyone cast in NYMT as well xx

BYMT Parents this is not a drill - check your emails!

DD has been offered Power of Camelot - Thrilled to be offered a show but of course it had to be the Theatre furthest away from us :D

LibbyRuncie · 22/02/2024 12:14

@Biscuitsneeded thank you! Yes first time! The pastoral team at audition and call back were fantastic and she came home from both beaming and happy! As much as I am obviously eeeek about her being away she has been away for a week at a time on a few occasions with guiding including going on a plane! I am so excited for her!

Biscuitsneeded · 22/02/2024 11:03

@LibbyRuncie @Kittykat57 Many congratulations to your DC on getting cast for what I imagine is the first time? They will have the best time. Just to reassure you, the pastoral team at NYMT is completely amazing and they will be very well looked after.

Well done to all the DC cast and offered workshops!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 22/02/2024 07:57

Congrats on all the offers! Just want to second what @allhailthebrain said as we had a similar experience with a non-auditioned skills course when DC was 10. Also gave them the bug. And from then on they have also been known by name and made to feel part of the family.

We've had a mixed run- cast (covid year), recall but no casting, cast again, then no recall. DC is a musician and even in the years they've not been cast as performer has had at least one show in the band. So NYMT is their happiest of happy places and it all started with a skills course.

Melwingingit · 21/02/2024 23:35

@allhailthebrain thank you so much. I will look into it

Youarenotseriouspeople · 21/02/2024 23:21

Well done to everyone!!!
DD has been offered the Lightning Boy workshop which she is really pleased with - we are just trying to see if we can make the dates work.....

NCMO2G · 21/02/2024 23:11

Thanks @allhailthebrain that’s helpful to know that info. 😊
