NYO 2022

My DS is preparing to apply for NYO.
He said the application form is quite hard to fill as so many questions to answer (Like mini essays for about 10 topics).
He just has started looking at the excerpts, also needs to upload contrasted pieces too. DS knows he is not good enough yet but as he is interested in NYO inspire too, he will give it a go!
It would be great to hear about either NYO or NYO inspire's experience.

NYO musician's page was updated.
Many congratulations for anyone who gained a place!

@TheTurn0fTheScrew
Sorry, I thought your DD applied for NYO!
If your DD is not keen for theory, you can have a look at Trinity G8.
My DS took ABRSM G8 but G7 he did Trinity as he didn't have theory G5 at that time. Trinity has wider choice of repertoire and also have Orchestral excerpts choice for additional test which was really useful for NCO, NYO audition. Just a thought.

oh, that's interesting @horseymum, thank you. I don't think she's going to be ready for G8 until the summer, at least partly because she neglects to practise the exam material when there's far more interesting ensemble stuff to work on. If her teacher hasn't sorted things out by the start of spring term we'll look at entering her ourselves.

horseymum · 10/11/2021 16:55

@TheTurn0fTheScrew You can enter and sit the theory yourself, there's lots of info on the abrsm website. It doesn't need to be through a teacher. Maybe doing that might feel like she is taking some steps forwards after a chaotic time.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 10/11/2021 16:51

thanks @Musiccake. Sounds like things aren't quite up and running yet. I was starting to worry we'd fallen off a circulation list.

my DD hasn't sat G8 yet (in fact due to our local music service being pretty shambolic from the start of the pandemic onwards still hasn't sat the G5 theory that she should have taken in March 2020!), and I don't know if she'll eventually make the exceptionally high standards required for NYO, especially as she has the unfortunate combination of playing a popular instrument with not many seats. But she does really love ensemble playing and so was hoping there might be a bit more action than we've seen so far. Fingers crossed for the future.

TheTurn0fTheScrew
I haven't heard from them neither. But when we had audition feedback, the email mentioned about NYO inspire.
[We will be in touch very soon with further information about this year’s programme of activity]
So we will wait. Like your DD, my DC anyone who applied NYO must have G8 but the program is for G6-G8, so it is very interesting to know how they are going to allocate their activities. Residential Orchestra or ensemble sound great but I hope it does not clash with my DS's other commitment.
I there anyone experienced NYO inspire in the past?

just resurrecting this thread to ask about NYO Inspire. DD applied for this programme over the summer (she's probably not of the standard for NYO proper yet) and was accepted. We were emailed about an initial online meeting on 30/09, which was then postponed. It's all gone very quiet since then. I know different players will be contacted about different local opportunities, but just wondered if anyone has heard much before I think about contacting them directly.

FalalaLondon · 27/09/2021 14:03

DC didn’t get a place but has a place now automatically on NYO Inspire. The more playing / meeting people / having fun, the better in our book so will definitely do that.

Audition was good experience and we’re grateful for it.

FalalaLondon · 25/09/2021 18:25

I emailed and got a very quick and apologetic response to say my DC had fallen through the admin gaps and so we will get our email on Monday. I imagine it’s a no as they presumably wouldn’t overlook a successful candidate. Not sure why we now have to wait until Monday and they couldn’t email today as it’s their error. But anyway .... we assume unsuccessful.

Vijaycobes · 25/09/2021 17:29

My ds also accepted yesterday for violin 5.30ish (on first attempt so very shocked!) perhaps you should call Monday to chase, that’s not fair leaving you hanging!

Elle38 · 25/09/2021 13:06

@FalalaLondon

Any logic as to who has heard and who hasn’t? I looked again at the info and it says results ‘on or around 24 September’. Will it be Monday now do we think? Not massively anxious as it was a bit of a long shot anyway but all the same ....

What’s happened in previous years?

My dd heard she was accepted around 5.30 (viola). I think all of her friends have had successful/unsuccessful emails now. I'm so sorry you haven't heard yet!! It's a stressful wait even when unlikely (this is my daughter's 3rd attempt - even when she thought she wasn't ready it was a tough wait!!)

Hi. I hope your DC took the news ok. There’s always next year to try again. 😌

Vijaycobes · 24/09/2021 17:14

Anyone had violin results yet? May not get them
Tonight at this rate!?

FalalaLondon · 24/09/2021 16:35

Do they send emails out by section? In alphabetical order? Tbh our hopes weren’t high but would be good to know. Not sure DS is aware they come out today.

MirandaWest · 24/09/2021 16:27

I know my DDs friend hasn’t heard yet (or at least hadn’t about an hour ago)

Vijaycobes · 24/09/2021 15:56

No news here yet 😬

Siriusmuggle · 24/09/2021 15:22

Their loss hey? Standard must have been really high.

FalalaLondon · 24/09/2021 14:04

We haven't heard yet. Did you get an email?

Musictimesthree · 24/09/2021 14:03

Also unsuccessful 🙁. Commiserations everyone.

WhereShallWeGo · 24/09/2021 13:59

Commiserations, Sirius. Tough competition! I would think/hope my DC will ask for feedback.

Siriusmuggle · 24/09/2021 13:40

Unsuccessful here too. As was his amazingly talented friend.

WhereShallWeGo · 24/09/2021 13:31

My DC was unsuccessful sadly. I hope yours better luck!

Vijaycobes · 24/09/2021 08:46

Thanks all. Good luck to your dc 😍

Siriusmuggle · 24/09/2021 08:11

I’m assuming email. Hopefully soon.
