@Operagirl1that is indeed the very tricky thing with BYMT-you don’t know what you will be doing until you get there. I would say however that the size of his part hasn’t dictated how much he has learnt/enjoyed the show. Most of his learning curve has been about the experience of working with professional adults and being part of an ensemble. And getting to be with like minded peers. I would ask wether is it dance focus etc as if your DS would like experience in this field then that might be useful but if not so dancy (there was barely any in his last BYMT show) that may affect the experience depending on what your DS hopes to get out of it. Unfortunately you are never guaranteed a part with BYMT, but a huge part of it is the experience of living and training with others which is hard to get elsewhere.

Did any of the creative teams for the NYMT shows give you any ideas when the results would be coming in? This is so different to previous years with some musicians hearing first!

@doesanybodyhaveamap thanks so much for that. DD has calmed down a bit with that news and I think she's starting to look forward to it. I've just got to negotiate with the opera company now and see if she can still do that as well. It will mean missing the last performance and I guess the small part will be out of the window but she can still sing in the chorus (hopefully)!

@Operagirl1 BYMT never cast actual parts until later. Some shows will have a casting weekend before the residential. Others they will decide on when they start working with the kids. I think @minimits Can probably share more experiences x

My DD isn't happy atm as she feels she might have missed out on something better. It looks as though Nightshade is largely an ensemble piece. There is no mention of a part only an offer of being in the show. DD really wanted a part. We will have to pull her out of a professional opera production she is in to do this. She is due to audition on Sunday for a small part in the opera. I will have to phone BYMT for more details tomorrow. Very annoying, the whole thing!

@Operagirl1 great news for you too! Though extremely annoying and frustrating!

I feel for those on the BYMT reserve list with auditions still open - I wonder if it's just that they will make up the places from those on the reserve list + those still to audition? So in effect they're on hold...?

@Janet25 we've only heard hunchback news so far I think? I have a number of friends with very accomplished young musicians (including some who have been offered in previous years) still waiting for news too. So hang in there x

Regardless of the outcome I’m going to try and book tickets for Hunchback. It’s such a glorious score.

Absolutely. And although the performer 'no's' stung a bit at the time, when we set out at the beginning of the year, I asked her what her Number 1 outcome would be and she thought long and hard before saying "musician in Hunchback". Can't ask for more for them really, can you?

Really hacked off that they’ve said dd is on reserve list (bymt) but are adding a whole load more audition dates...seems extremely unfair to reserves!

Hi all, after a very long wait, DD has been offered Nightshade. Is anyone else's DC in this one? Apparently there has been a cockup. DD had a very high score but for some reason fell through the net. If I hadn't phoned they probably would have forgotten all about her. It makes me wander what she might have been offered if this hadn't happened.
