NYMT / BYMT 2021

Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

@Triflefan you'll probably get two emails. One telling him he has a recall workshop (which since he got in last year I would think is very likely) which should give you at least a few days notice, and then one the night before with zoom log in details and a bit of script to READ but not learn. That's all you need to worry about for now!

Biscuitsneeded · 02/03/2021 12:41

Hi @DalekFan! Welcome. Congrats to your DD and I hope she enjoys Saturday - let us know how it goes!

Triflefan · 02/03/2021 12:00

That’s great news @DalekFan :)

Thank you @doesanybodyhaveamap
I’ll make sure he at least looks at his emails on a Friday then!

chaperonemum · 02/03/2021 11:56

@DalekFan well done to your DD how exciting!!!!

We sent DD's on the 24th so perhaps we'll hear something this week.

Hope it goes well.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 02/03/2021 11:55

Hello Dalek! Welcome! Good luck on Saturday Smile

@Triflefan the material comes through about 5-6pm the evening before the workshop, so you don't actually have much time to prep! It's fine though, they don't expect you to know the scripts, just be familiar with them. The dance is all taught on the day. Smile

Thank you @Alakazam8

Well done to @DalekFan’s dd for getting through to the workshop stage. Hope it all goes well on Saturday and she enjoys the workshop, whatever the result!

DalekFan · 02/03/2021 11:35

Hi All, I’m new to this forum, hope you don’t mind me coming on. It’s great to read all about your DCs.

My DD is hoping to get into NYMT or BYMT this year but knows it will be tough. She submitted her tape to NYMT on 20/02 and she heard back yesterday that she has a workshop this Saturday. No scripts provided yet though. She is nervous and excited!

Triflefan · 02/03/2021 10:59

I’m sorry if I missed this but if they do receive a recall, how long do they have to prepare?
I feel like a ‘soccer mom’ but because he’s applied using his email address (which he never checks) I feel out of the loop and he’ll get annoyed if I keep asking him to check!
I can well imagine him announcing the night before and then being up all night reading through.

minimits · 01/03/2021 18:29

What a lovely supportive forumSmile fingers crossed for them all!!!

Alakazam8 · 01/03/2021 14:36

It would lovely if we all have good news! @minimits son really deserves it. Think we’ll have a bit of a wait now though until they look at them all, especially any later entries!

Biscuitsneeded · 01/03/2021 14:08

I want @Minimits' DS to get in as much as I do my own!

One of DS' friends was still submitting his video at 11pm last night... Think we have to accept there may yet be several weekends of workshops before there's any news for those who have already done a workshop. Stay positive, everyone!

minimits · 01/03/2021 11:40

Thanks @Triflefan it really has been a tough one. DS is lucky in that he has his end of year show to throw himself into which is a great distraction. Totally agree self-taping is a nightmare. DS goes between doing one shot and refusing to look at it and doing hundreds and over-analysing them. He's having to self-tape at least twice a week for school and will be so glad when he can actually perform in person.

minimits · 01/03/2021 11:33

Aw thank you @doesanybodyhaveamap he is determined to perform with NYMT one day and has indeed developed pretty good resilience! He can be pretty determined which I guess helps in this industry. Fingers crossed for all the auditionees!

Triflefan · 01/03/2021 11:32

@minimits
Hello!
So sorry Les Mis was cancelled. It’s been a particularly tough time for their age group IMO.
Fingers crossed for this year. I’m not sure I can handle the waiting... 😆 I just really want mine to have something to throw himself into.
Anyone else’s find the self -taping a nightmare?!
If it was normal times they’d have one shot and I kept reminding him of that. In the end he changed his pieces and got the whole lot done in under 30 mins. So much indecision!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 01/03/2021 10:36

@minimits I was thinking of your DS yesterday and wondering if he'd applied. What a resilient young man xxx A fabulous example to us all!

We will definitely try and watch hunchback regardless of whether DD is in it because it does sound wonderful.... I think if she's offered a spot as musician she'd secretly love that one. But we try not to say these things out loud because really, anything's a blessing!

OP posts:
Alakazam8 · 01/03/2021 09:28

Just read about Hunchback being inclusive. Totally agree with @minimits there. It will give some children who would never have the chance to participate in something like this an amazing opportunity and the ‘mainstream’ children something completely different too. I imagine this one will be amazing to watch too!

minimits · 01/03/2021 08:32

I would also add I would secretly love him to get into Hunchback as the idea of an inclusive show really resonates with me. DS did a fantastic concert at The Royal Albert Hall with his brother who is Autistic, it was a truly inclusive concert and each child with SEN had a 'buddy' who supported them. All the children learnt the sign language for the songs and to say I sobbed buckets would be an understatement. Opportunities for children with SEN to perform are few and far between so I truly applaud NYMT for Hunchback.

minimits · 01/03/2021 08:27

DS also very happy to do anything! He got into Kiss Me Kate last year and it was his forth attempt to get in after two previous years of recalls and was so gutted (compounded by his school Les Mis show cancelled after rehearsing Jean Valjean for 6 months). He would be very happy to be the fourth tree next to biscuits DS! He's done BYMT 4 times but isn't auditioning for it this year. They are definitely very different companies but he learnt a lot from BYMT.

Alakazam8 · 28/02/2021 21:05

Yes the standard is so high and they got so many applications so would be grateful for just getting through at all, especially as it’s our first time- but will probably be Hunchback- if we do.

Triflefan · 28/02/2021 20:39

I think DS would be thrilled with anything too! Just to feel part of a show again would be amazing. He does have a preference but I guess it depends whether they want him this time and if so, what they have in mind for him

doesanybodyhaveamap · 28/02/2021 20:31

Has not he.. 🙄 bloody predictive text!

OP posts:
doesanybodyhaveamap · 28/02/2021 20:30

As Biscuits he said we'd be delighted with anything. It's such an achievement just to get an offer. The standard is so phenomenally high.
