NYMT / BYMT 2021

Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

@Mcmumager the rehearsals will be in the weeks directly preceding the show. Some are 2 week projects and some 3 week projects, but granted it's not v clear at the moment.

I had a long general chat on the phone with them yesterday and it sounds like they are still trying to fix down some venues/accommodation (for very genuine covid related reasons) so probably why they haven't published all the exact dates and details yet...

My son didn’t seem keen to audition for BYMT- I think maybe unclear on the shows. I also didn’t understand the timing of them e.g if Peter Pan is 4-8 august what dates would the rehearsals be? I couldn’t see this on the website.

Comefromaway · 08/04/2021 10:33

I'm wondering now whether to see if dd wants to audition for BYMT.

But, she's had recall auditions for drama school Musical Theatre performance MA courses and if she gets in the Postgrad loan won't cover all the fees/living costs so I'm thinking we should be saving her money/concentrating on her getting a summer job to try and finance it.

Alakazam8 · 08/04/2021 10:12

Think my dd will be auditioning for BYMT too. Had a chat today and seems keen!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 08/04/2021 10:02

I should add that despite not being keen going in (because it was ALL About NYMT for her this year after getting in last year), DD came out of BYMT audition absolutely buzzing and was really pleased that she did it. She is now keeping her fingers and toes crossed...

Yes, they've opened up a few extra audition dates between now and end of June.

@Belusha DD actually enjoyed the BYMT audition more - found it a little easier. But that could be because she was less invested and didn't actually want to do it really so wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as she did! Maybe a few days down the line DD will feel ready to think about it.....

Everytime i read that someone has got a no I feel my stomach lurch.. We have a recall this time but my DD has, over the last couple of years, been in the very final rounds for almost every West End show requiring children. Has even performed for Cameron Mackintosh 2ce...

But each time has ended up with a no. Every time we get into this process it makes me feel horribly sick – and desperately unfair! But I’ve come round to the thinking that everything is for a reason.. And the industry being what it is, getting a no meeds to be seen as a fantastic opportunity to build resilience - Which of course is as important as talent!
(I read on Twitter that BYMT are still auditioning??)

Belusha · 08/04/2021 09:44

Thank you @doesanybodyhaveamap I know you do. It’s so hard for these young people......and us!

I’m not sure we can cope with another agonising audition and wait for BYMT so soon after this. I thought the NYMT summer school offer might ease the blow so that might be up for discussion.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 08/04/2021 09:34

I'm sorry @Belusha . We truly feel your pain.

Would DD be interested in BYMT? They have just added some additional audition dates, possibly hoping to pick up some of those disappointed by NYMT. x

Gutted that we have a no. We should have heard last Friday but didn’t which NYMT have apologised for. I feel that one or two missed emails can be down to typos but so many seems like quite a big administrative error on their part. We will have a cry and get on with life now. I hope those still waiting have a more positive outcome.

Newgirls · 08/04/2021 09:24

At least with uk holidays we can still go even if kids are otherwise occupied. It is all getting quite booked up out there. Might just miss a day or two for dropping off etc.

Operagirl1 · 07/04/2021 21:42

I do hope all of those who are still waiting get good news.

Belusha · 07/04/2021 21:17

Oh yes sorry it was NYMT. Audition was early Feb. My DD heard from some friends who got no’s after their audition so understandably has got her hopes up. After discovering and reading this thread I’ve now sent an email and feel sick knowing what the answer is probably going to be now.

Operagirl1 · 07/04/2021 21:08

@belusha which organisation did your child audition for?

Belusha · 07/04/2021 21:04

Congratulations to all those with recalls. I fear we are in the no news is bad news group too Sad

Pianoprincess · 07/04/2021 20:50

We still haven’t heard anything from NYMT even after I emailed this morning! Think I’ll call tomorrow as maybe problem with email?

Yr10mom · 07/04/2021 19:35

am so glad they could tell you the show and we’re so understanding. yes we are ready to book some sort of break too

Operagirl1 · 07/04/2021 19:17

Thank you @doesanybodyhaveamap. The waiting is painful!! My DD is doing National Youth Choir this week, which is keeping her busy, but I'm on tenderhooks the whole time checking my emails!!!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 07/04/2021 18:52

Don't worry @Operagirl1 I've actually spoken to them on the phone today. Need some certainty on SOMETHING as going to lose deposits / places on music courses if we don't pay up soon... the person I spoke to was amazingly helpful and kind. Completely understanding as to why I was ringing and not at all judgy or impatient. Current situation with performers is that they are still working their way through castings but should have it all done within 2 weeks. Frances in the office is also away this week which has impacted things a bit. DD still very much in the mix for performer but hadn't been cast yet. Also was able to tell me the show she will be offered as musician - Goblin Market. This has made her happy as it was the one she was due to do last year pre-Covid but when they rescheduled to Easter we had to pull out due to other commitments but of course, then everything got moved again...

We haven't heard from BYMT. Don't know whether that's good or bad.

Biscuitsneeded · 07/04/2021 17:58

@Newgirls that's brilliant for your DD to get a recall though - well done to her. It's a big achievement. I wouldn't dismiss her chances just yet!

Newgirls · 07/04/2021 17:26

Ah sorry biscuits - sounds like he will be focusing on MT etc this summer anyway.

Just reading the thread - it’s all very late for yeses isn’t it? Is anyone still waiting? Just musicians now I think?

We have booked up holidays anyway as it seems tough to get into nyt or musicians so can’t put life on hold any more.

Biscuitsneeded · 07/04/2021 17:13

DS got a no from NYT. Not unexpected as they had viewed his video exactly once! Guess they were very sure...Wink. He's fine.

Newgirls · 07/04/2021 16:57

We’ve got a recall for nyt now so that also throws a spanner in the works. Anyone else still got a kid in running for that?

Katherine3 · 07/04/2021 16:28

@biscuitsneeded. Committed now so no point in doing recall sadly,
