Is 8.30am acceptable time for piano practise?

We live in a semi and our piano is on the side of our neighbours (not by choice- but only place available due to position of heating et al)
Both my children plays the piano and I have always made sure that piano practise is during acceptable hours 6-7pm during term hours and after 10am weekends.

However- due to lockdown- my sons actual lessons are now at home, weekends 8-10am. (Normally we go to the teachers house at 8am)

I have done everything I can to delay touching the piano first thing and the first 30 minutes is spent on theory, thus the noise starts at 8.30am.

The children are grades 4 & 5 and they are actually playing the piano rather than piano bashing. Youngest is age 7 and still go to sleep very early. The piano teacher does not have any other slots.

Is 8.30am too early?
Does anyone know the legality of piano playing at such hours?

Too early. Though I'll be interested in the answers on this thread as I remember a similar one a few years ago where the majority asserted that music practice was essential and neighbour's must suck it up! People where very angry on that thread Grin.

Far to early! And I would not be happy if you were my neighbours! No earlier than 10am in my opinion

Have they complained? My kids practise at 7.15 & I have never thought about the time( although we are detached) Our neighbour has said she enjoys hearing them!

BIL has a thick rug fixed to the wall behind his piano as it’s on a shared wall - it seems to help deaden the sound. I don’t personally think 8:30 is too early, but as this thread shows, some do. Maybe speak to your neighbours and see what they think. We’re all up by 8:30 so it wouldn’t bother me.

It's rather early. I'd speak to the neighbours and see what they think. I wouldn't mind and I know my parents wouldn't mind either, but some would hate it!

Yes speak yo tour neighbours and explain the situation. X neighbour used to play Saturday morning from about 8 am but he was amazing and we loved listening. And it was only the one day

Why can’t you schedule your lessons later? As a piano player with musical children, it’s far too early

They still do their practicing on the upright, but lessons are on the digital for now.

It is quite early. But they may not mind. Hard to advise really... you could look up the local council statements about noise nuisance to see if it’s objectionable legally.

We are having a very similar issue with early lessons. We bought a cheaper digital piano and moved it to the opposite side of the house, which was a pain in itself because we had to move other furniture for it, but at least we can control the volume now. So far, my ndn says that she can't hear anything.

Speak to the neighbours. They are the only opinion that matters.
See if you can move the piano or sound proof in any way.

Yes it’s too flipping early! 10am onwards acceptable. You know rightly 8.30am is not ok!

I don't know about the legality but do feel it's a bit early yes
