Thought I'd start a thread now that the shows have been revealed. Who's got a DC or student applying? I have a feeling in my bones it won't be my DS's year this time - he's nearly 15, voice not broken but not reliable either, and apart from the one show we don't know I can't see anything he could obviously do! But he'll give it best shot and if no luck we'll still watch the shows. Good luck to all!

One very happy girl here, very buzzy and thoroughly enjoyed her re-call experience. Whatever the outcome she's had a great time.

Good luck everyone x

Biscuitsneeded · 23/02/2020 11:12

Looking forward to updates from those who are there today - hope they all have a great time!

So glad he had a good day @Biscuitsneeded. My DS is bouncing round the house singing and buzzing with excitement so whatever happens, I think he’ll enjoy the afternoon.

Biscuitsneeded · 22/02/2020 21:19

DS really enjoyed his day. We had some last minute wobbles as his voice just refused to behave at all yesterday but he got through the singing today without total disaster and really loved the acting and movement. Met loads of nice people too. Loads of luck to your DS @manicmumsday. I hope he has a fabulous time.

How did he get on today, @Biscuitsneeded? Hope his voice held up? My DS seems completely unconcerned about tomorrow so hopefully his bravado will hold him in good stead... I'm not looking forward to the long wait for news again though!

Biscuitsneeded · 21/02/2020 20:11

Indeed - loads of luck to all, be brave and most of all, ENJOY! We've had tears of frustration here today as the voice is not behaving - all normal for teenage boys but the timing isn't great. But he's decided to be brave and see what happens.
See you all on the other side!

Just popping in to say best of luck to all those with re-calls this weekend! Xx

Oakmaiden · 16/02/2020 23:26

Oooh is there a production of 13 coming

So rumour has it... Unfortunately, though, dd wasn't well enough to go to the session - I think she has blocked ear and sinuses, because every time she bends forward she gets very dizzy. She decided that she would rather not go and make no impression, that to try and make a bad impression. Hey ho.

She has a casting tomorrow for the 4 O'clock Club, which at least isn't dancing or singing so makes her I've-had-this-cold-all-winter cold less important. And then most of a week off before we are up to London.

Biscuitsneeded · 16/02/2020 11:31

Good luck to your DD Lonecat. Wishing all recalled for NYMT no coughs and sneezes by the weekend!

Oooh is there a production of 13 coming?? DD absolutely LOVES that show and is desperate to see it. She's also the perfect age... we looked at BTA because they are doing it this season and I even booked an audition but thought better and cancelled because it would have to happen the same weekend as NYMT call back and she just needs to focus on that. Plus BTA logistics would be tricky...

DD has been really poorly this week, after her BYMT audition the cough really took hold so she's not been able to sing at all this week. On the mend now, but still not really able to sing properly. Getting a bit nervy about prepping for next weekend!!!

Oakmaiden · 15/02/2020 19:05

DD has decided not to audition for BYMT this time - she has a clash with a casting session with a West End casting agent, and whilst she could just about have done both, has decided to focus on just one of them. She won't get a part (they are mostly casting Matilda and School of Rock, and she is too old for them. Although rumour has it they are looking for teens for Thirteen too) but it is good experience to see how it works.

Lonecatwithkitten · 15/02/2020 16:57

BYMT audition three from the MT group I help run including DD and one friends DD. DD reports she felt all of my 'team' did well.

She's got NYT tomorrow.
Busy weekend of auditions.

Just to add that parents can go in to help then register if they're young but there's not really any parental hanging around. There's a big Pret round the corner where parents tend to lurk but it's also only a short walk down to Tate Britain if you fancy seeing some art while you're there!

I think they probably see around 250 over the course of the recall weekend, but bear in mind they need a cast of about 28 each for the 3 summer shows and about 40 for the touring show, plus a group for the workshop, I would say they have about a 1 in 2-3 ish chance at this stage of getting something. That's only based on numbers I have guessed at over previous years though! They are all recalled for specific shows, so although they may have the same time slots as someone else with a different show, they will be taken off to different sessions from registration and will only be seen by the creative teams from the show they are recalled for. It's all very well organised and they keep pretty much to time usually as they will have another group coming in.

we will be going on Sunday @Oakmaiden - although for a different show I believe they are all in together, at least for some of the time?? Good luck to your DD!

In other news over here, DD thoroughly enjoyed her BYMT audition yesterday and has come away feeling very positive (I hope it's not misplaced!). She did her musician audition after the performer audition and said they were asking her which she'd rather do, actor or musician, and then went on to talk about specific shows. So sounds positive, but you never can tell!

Starting to dare to hope that she might get something from one or the other...

Oakmaiden · 10/02/2020 12:01

DD is going on Sunday afternoon, I think. She is 16. Do you know how many children they call back for casting? Just wondering if it is dozens or hundreds!

Biscuitsneeded · 08/02/2020 08:32

@Oakmaiden, he's 14, nearly 15. I don't imagine they will want many younger ones for Ragtime but he's very happy to get a recall. Do you know yet what day your DD is going? There will be several groups each day so paths may or may not cross. Loads of luck to your DD.

Well done to baby Biscuits and mini Manicmums.

Might see you at the Ragtime callback, Biscuits. How old is your son?

Lonecatwithkitten · 07/02/2020 01:12

Congratulations to @Biscuitsneeded and @manicmumsday.

minimits · 06/02/2020 22:53

Congratulations Biscuitsneeded and manicmumsday!

manicmumsday · 06/02/2020 21:36

@Biscuitsneeded - that’s fantastic, really pleased for you/him!

My DS got recalled too - for Imaginary and the summer workshop for the new musical. Delighted for him and very surprised!

folkmamma · 06/02/2020 21:31

@Biscuitsneeded 🥳🥳🥳👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Biscuitsneeded · 06/02/2020 21:20

Just popping on here to update that DS has recalls for Henrietta and Ragtime. He's super happy this evening!

OP posts:
minimits · 06/02/2020 16:23

Lonecatwithkitten that seems very odd! Maybe she could only make it then? The rest of the cast were there for 4 days-they didn’t know if they were chorus/principals until after the casting days then got the script through which had their parts and lines. They had time to learn boxing/go through the songs and bond as a group. I think it’s an entirely different experience with every show to be honest!
