Any figure skating parents around?

You must be superfit! Where do you roller skate?

Hi Everyone, I'm so pleased to find this thread .

I do artistic roller skating. We do similar stuff to the ice skaters (I can do a Salchow and a 1 foot spin for example), only we don't have to get up at 5.30am and it's not so cold!

I've always loved roller skating, but only started artistic skating about 4 years ago. I take lessons with the kids' classes, and I also teach the beginners.

I wish I'd discovered this sport as a kid because I think I could have been pretty good. It turns out late 40s isn't the ideal age to start - who knew?!

Where do your children skate?

I find other skaters mums so much more friendly than tennis mums / swimming mums .

And ice club prints in black & white capital :
No scarf on ice !

I now sacked the 1-1 coach .
Back to group classes .

It is so hard SO SO HARD to find a good coach you get on mutually .

This girl coach is like 18 years old .
Turning up late 2nd time — busy with her make up / hair / 2 meter long scarf on ice on duty both hands to Just watch my DC fell .

Not trying to protect my DC from busy traffic ( or at least on DC right hand side ? )

I know nothing about ice but I just don’t have a good instinct on this coach .

While the group classes coaches are much older and more experienced and licensed and approachable ‘and mindful.

Anyone estimate DC adulthood fully grown height ?
I heard if it s more than 175cm then Better to switch to ice hockey .

My DC is not 4 yet .

And I now actually have a huge dilemma .

All the 1-1 coaches ( who is willing to do such young age for any price !!)

can only do during public open hours which is :
1:
Super crowded at any time . Esply weekend .
2:
Those civilians — some looks drunk or high — they are everywhere— in any shape any age — in every direction —- up to 50mph speed —- backwards skating without even watching out.
Some are like 140kg on blade who nearly knock over my DC as coach ( very young girl ) is 0.5 meter away .

Or :

Kids group class ( with penguins )

Pro :
Kids only .
Beginner only .
Quieter .
Even an old kid alike age 8/9 is better than someone 150kg on blade walk over my DC .

Con :
Buy 1 block in advance
1-10 attention ratios not 1-1 .
And that 2 coaches like to chit chat on duty .
Penguins ???!!!

Lol I'm ok watching generally but competitions stress me out and I'd love a gin while watching but I'm always driving and it's often 9am so I find it's frowned upon how old are your dc ?

How do u ladies copy with watching DC skating .
I need to get drunk for that ..... with a down jacket . Esply when they fell .
Also I find weekend very busy . And my DC are the youngest smallest among all those huge speedy civilians.

I totally agree, the politics drove me mad!
How many mornings do you do @BBoodles? I found 6 easier than when we just did 2 at the start. It was just routine and the body clock shifted (permanently!!)

I think it's normal for our lives to revolve round the rink too, we spend so much time with other parents and their kids it's only natural! I would definitely massively miss some of the mum's, the funny ones that keep me sane at 6am not the crazy ones 🤣. I also think I will be sad when she stops but the unfairness of the sport upsets me, and the politics, and I'd feel rich if we didn't spend the money we do. However there's also so many positives, it teaches such a great work ethic, teaches a great mindset to success, fitness, keeps them busy! So I can't grumble too much :)

Haha life is certainly cheaper but I still wake up at about 5.30am every day, I just don't have to get out of bed 9 years skating has ruined my sleep for life it seems I thought I'd be pleased when she stopped but it turned out I wasn't. It was fun and I had friends at the rink too lol!
My daughter was competing at Advanced Novice and had her Level 10 Field Moves too.

Also I saw that there's a "skate Edinburgh" for basic and advanced novice only for skaters that have not yet got the score for the qualifiers, I think that's a great idea!

I kinda long for the day my daughter stops skating! It's such a time consuming exhausting "hobby" (I can't event call it a hobby because it basically feels like a job!) She loves it though, what level did your daughter get to before she stopped?.

Ex figure skating mum here but I miss it so would love to join your chat My daughter stopped skating a couple of years ago. It turned into a huge part of our lives. Its so odd though, after years and years training and competing and also making lots of friends, she has zero interest in ever setting foot on the ice again!
We did watch The British together on BBC though to watch her friends and old competitive peers and both enjoyed that Great to have it streamed!!
Re: colour changing dresses, I have seen those for exhibition programmes but never for free skating competitions! Interesting concept. There are rules about not having theatrical costumes so I'd have thought it a bit risky!

No news to share, anyone going to watch the british at sheffield next week? just saw its on bbc iplayer live so will watch at home :)

Have you seen the changing dresses that some of the Russian juniors have this season? They are gorgeous.
