December Music Thread

Hi all, sorry it's late. I didn't get a moment yesterday.

Please feel free to jump right into December's discussion. We talk about music lessons, practice, exams, concerts, auditions, repertoire, instrument hire/ purchase, reeds, strings and more. There is no minimum or maximum age or standard. Beginners are always welcome.

Our thoughts are with one of our members, Tabby, at this sad and difficult time for our family. Her situation has reminded me of all the things that are really important in life - mainly our loved ones - and that while music is something which can enhance all of our lives, I shouldn't waste time stressing over small stuff like exam results.

I am mum to Goo (13) and Rara (10).

@TabbyTigger2 - there are many types of truth. There is factual accuracy; there is genuine, truthful response to other people’s situations; there is true love of the people you are writing about. Discerning these truths about others is hard face to face, let alone on the internet. Whoever any of us are, I have appreciated your friendship and your many fun and supportive posts. If this is all completely true, it's incredibly brave of you to come and update us. I remember posts about your DD's struggles with body image and eating. My heart breaks for your whole family and the loss of your DS. One day, you will all find a new normal, but until then it must be so, so hard for you all. I'm sorry you felt the need for this kind of escapism, but thank you for coming back. I hope you have lots of support in real life.

Hmmm ... I guess because a lot of us know each other at least by sight because of NCO I take people at face value on Waffle's threads whereas I'm a lot less trusting on, say, AIBU. More fool me, clearly!

Waffle I think we should all just carry on regardless but yes a new thread might be an idea - very weird but their problem not ours ( though I admit it does make you feel a bit strange)
I did think that even by our standards pancake had super busy dcs though !! Wink

We're having to make a mercy dash to school to grab his cello and him, and then dashing across the city to the string specialist shop that sold it to us - they're going to lend him one for tonight and fix his.
My stress levels are through the roof - I'm wondering what other damage there might be, and why his incredibly expensive case didn't prevent it.

DS has the biggest concert of the school year tonight, playing in multiple orcestras and ensembles, and has just called to say his cello has been damaged by being shoved in the hold of the coach taking him to the concert hall - the finger board has come off. 😱

Public Service Announcement.

Due to some inconsistencies, Tabby/Pancake has been removed from Mumsnet. Thank you to the people who alerted me to the situation, and to MNHQ for their hard work behind the scenes. None of us would wish anyone ill, so I do hope they are OK and receiving any support that they need.

I will not be entering into any personal correspondence about this, and would like to keep the thread on track.

Thank you Loose I really do feel for her , but try to just give her lots of positive vibes and tactics for dealing with the children in her class when they are being unkind / downright nasty !!

Yes Dd also needs to find people like her . She has a couple of great friends - would have moved schools ages ago if it wasn’t for them . Unfortunately they are unlikely to go to high school with her - but I think where she’s going will be a good fit I’m also hoping that those girls who have made her life very difficult since they were about 4 !?! won’t be going to high school with her either

Waffle, we paid for a few counselling sessions, but I appreciate that's much easier here than in the UK. I think what piccolo said below is very pertinent, anxious people are often demand-avoiders.

Trumpetboysmum, thank you. She's a student now and her course is full of "people like her" (she is also quite unconventional and opinionated). I don't think anxiety ever leaves you completely but she is managing it much better. She's even managing to be not too hung up about marks!
