NYMT-2019

Just booked DD(14)'s audition, her first year. Very nervous for her and there are three months to go.

She has done well as the big fish in a small pond and had really good NODA reports, comments on Lamda exams and in local competitions. Now it is time for her to put herself out there in the big wide world.
We know the odds are against her and we talk about the experience being good.

A quick good luck to all the DC going this weekend. Fingers crossed!

NotEnoughTime · 20/02/2019 10:00

You are very kind Biscuits I will show him your post.

I also agree with you that it is very hard as a parent going through the ups and downs with your DC. It can be a brutal industry.

Thanks again.

Oh gosh NET, I'm sorry to read that. I have heard of that happening to a few others this year - really talented young people who have been successfully cast before and some of whom have West End credentials. I can only think that they just don't match any of the parts available. I also think that by the last couple of weekends of the audition process the teams have a very clear idea of what they want, so if you're not what's needed this time they don't waste your time bringing you back to recalls only to give you a no next week. It must be such a big blow though. I hope your DS, although doubtless very disappointed, will realise this and not take it too hard - and fingers crossed he'll be back next year stronger than ever. Thinking of him, and you - it's tough being a parent of a bitterly disappointed child (have been there and am mentally psyching up in case in same position next week!). xx

NotEnoughTime · 19/02/2019 21:34

Thank you biscuits

Unfortunately it is a no for my DS Sad

He is very disappointed especially as he took part last year. I have explained to him until I'm blue in the face that just because you are picked one year it doesn't mean you will be picked the following year. I understand it is hard to let go of a dream though.

I have no doubt he will try again next year. In the words of Ol' Blue Eyes 'Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again'.

I will pop in here from time to time to see how everyone is getting on.

Good luck all.

Those were supposed to be smiley faces but they've come out looking like someone grimacing!

Biscuitsneeded · 18/02/2019 22:50

😁😁 I'm sure your student will find your help invaluable. I hope all the DC on this thread get something this year....

EvilTwins · 18/02/2019 22:11

biscuits it’s my twins who are evil, not me Grin

Biscuitsneeded · 18/02/2019 14:15

Ah that's a nice thing to say EvilTwins (not as evil as your monicker, clearly). We went to see a a singing teacher this morning so DS feeling quite a bit better aout it. It still needs work but at least he knows what he's aiming for now!

minimits · 18/02/2019 13:54

Evil twins Can I smuggle DS into your house?! Going through Parade songs on Spotify and with my ancient grade 1 piano ability is ‘interesting’ Confused Biscuits I feel your pain!

EvilTwins · 18/02/2019 13:35

Shame you’re not closer biscuits

Biscuitsneeded · 18/02/2019 09:12

Yep. DS is also needing help. Times like this I wish I could play the piano!

EvilTwins · 17/02/2019 23:32

Recalls this weekend. My old student is coming to see me to go through the material for Parade this week. That made me smile - he’s at LIPA now but still wanted a helping hand from his bog-standard school teacher Smile

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2019 22:08

Hello NotEnough

Glad to hear your DS enjoyed last year's NYMT experience, and I hope it went well for him yesterday. Keep us posted!

EvilTwins · 16/02/2019 22:20

Just catching up. None of mine went for DEH. The ones I currently teach are too tied up in drama school auditions and my NYMT boy is in his first year at LIPA so not likely to be going for anything - they’re really precious about them doing anything whilst studying - he had to check it was ok for him to audition for NYMT!

NotEnoughTime · 16/02/2019 17:39

Hello

I remember some of you from last years thread Smile
My DS had a fab experience last Summer with the NYMT.
He went to the London audition today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it has gone well for him-I know he would love to be chosen again this year.
Well done to all DC who have been recalled and commiserations to those who haven't.

janinlondon · 14/02/2019 08:09

Thanks Biscuits - she was chuffed to get that far with DEH, though it costs a bomb to get her up and down from Uni for all these! Doesnt expect to go any further, but said everyone recalled for Zoe was amazing. She is just recalled for one part for AG. I guess she will take her tap shoes in anyway. (God knows she hasnt used them in forever...!)

minimits · 13/02/2019 18:03

email received-ours says tap shoes but soft shoes if they don't have them. Exciting times!

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2019 16:59

Oh Jan well done to your DD on the recall - for Dear Evan Hansen? Fab news and fingers crossed. DS' recall info only came this pm so I wouldn't panic yet if anyone hasn't got theirs. Jan, I think each creative team do things differently, so yes they may be recalling for specific parts - a friend of ours with AG recall has 2 specific parts to prepare for. Has your DD? I guess it means you need soft shoes AND maybe tap shoes? I guess they will dance in other styles than tap too.
Lonecat, sorry to ear about your poor DD. DS had same thing a couple of years ago - not fun at all.

janinlondon · 13/02/2019 15:53

Bizarrely, the recall notes say "soft shoes"....??? For Anything Goes?? How??

minimits · 13/02/2019 15:00

Argh no email here! Will see if others have there's and then email.

janinlondon · 13/02/2019 11:34

The recall was a bit of a non-event in the end. Just another 16 bar performance, but with a larger group of casting agents. In any case, NYMT recall material came through for us last night Mini....? Quick question to old hands - they seem to be recalling people for specific parts. In the past, our recall day was general, and when the offers went out they were for specific parts. Is this something new?

minimits · 13/02/2019 11:23

Oh no! Poor girl! DS said his BYMT audition was very chilled this year. Hope she enjoys it! Hoping to get NYMT recall material soon-I’m more nervous than him I think!

janinlondon · 12/02/2019 15:27

Oh lonecat that must have been awful for her. I hope she is fully recovered for her YMT audition - and that she enjoys it! From our experience, the YMT ones are very stress free. DD is doing a recall in an hour, and i am ridiculously nervous for her.

Lonecatwithkitten · 11/02/2019 16:14

I thought I would pop back to see how everyone is doing.
When I collected DD from the NYMT audition she complained of feeling unwell, she then deteriorated over the next few days and after a long drawn out process ended up having her appendix out. So I suspect she wasn't firing on all cylinders on that day.
She has recovered from surgery well and has an audition prep course next week and then the BYMT audition on the Saturday.
I am glad to see everyone is getting on well and fingers crossed for the callbacks.

(Oh - and I was a bit Hmm about it too - but it seems to have been entirely legit. There have been recalls etc)
