The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

waffle and others - sorry to hear your news. My friend's daughter got in to every NCO orchestra except under 12s (she was a reserve) for some reason - very disappointing, but she still full enjoyed under 13s and Main orchestra after that.

violinandpiano · 13/12/2017 16:01

I fully agreed with you the competition seems to be very fierce. Last year we felt it was easy to get in training. But this year we feel my DD is just very lucky to get in U10s

Floottoot · 13/12/2017 15:58

Huge congratulations, Coffee and bass. Fantastic!
What instruments do your minis play?

stringchild · 13/12/2017 15:54

Well done coffee and bassclef; coffee - don’t worry - your dc must have what it takes to be chosen for full membership in such a competitive year

DS has a place in Main Orchestra. He is going to be delighted!

Massive congratulations to all the others who have been successful and big sympathies to those who will be disappointed with a year of regionals after being full members- I know that if the same had happened to ds then he would have been devastated so I really feel for you.

CoffeeTeaChocholate · 13/12/2017 15:48

It seems to be so much disappointment today, I feel so bad for everyone upset by the result. Big hugs to everyone, and of course huge congratulations to the successful applicants!

We just received the news on membership in the training orchestra here.... DD and I are both in shock and I am simultaneously very proud of DD and also terrified that she will be in over her head, the competition this year seems to have been fierce...

TaggieOHara · 13/12/2017 15:25

Sorry to hear that Waffle and Dancingqueen. It is toughest if they know what they are missing, and breaking bad news is hard. I'll be thinking of you and Goo this evening, Waffle.

Congrats to the new U10s/trainings :-) and lovely to hear from people we may meet at the Southeasterly regionals.

violinistmum · 13/12/2017 15:04

Waffle and Dancingqueen sorry to hear that. It's so hard on them when they already know what they're missing out on!

Congratulations to all who have achieved national/ full membership :-)

stringchild · 13/12/2017 14:59

Sorry to hear that Dancingqueen

Well done to the new under 10s 😀

Congratulations to all those who have places - wonderful news! Nice that some of the U10 parents will get to know each other on here. 😊
Huge sympathies to those whose dc were in nationals this year but haven't made the cut for next year - that must be very disappointing.
Waffle, it would be awful if Goo decided to give up on the back of this. Maybe taking a break would help her? The first term of year 7 in a new school is such a stressful time, so she's bound to feel over-wrought about things. I hope she doesn't take the news too hard.
Have you had any news about Rara?

Minimusiciansmama · 13/12/2017 14:54

Well done mini gi76 violin and paulweller! Fantastic news for them

Congratulations to minidancingqueen, however disappointing it feels today xx

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 14:41

Sorry your DD didn't quite get the news she was hoping for, dancingqueen16, but pleased she took it well. Still a huge achievement so huge congrats to her.

Also huge congrats to mini Paulweller11, violinandpiano and GI76 :-)

Paulweller11 · 13/12/2017 14:34

Still waiting on outcome for under 11’s- but competition is so fierce Smile

Paulweller11 · 13/12/2017 14:33

Little percussionist in training has been offered a place in the under 10’s.
Well done to everyone else too x

violinandpiano · 13/12/2017 14:25

Here is another U10s .

GI76 · 13/12/2017 14:24

Wow my DS was offered a place in the U10 orchestra!
He will be so delighted and I am amazed as it was his first ever audition. The comments were lovely and very encouraging. Still shocked and so pleased for him and his hard work

dancingqueen16 · 13/12/2017 14:20

I think with the changed age bands this year there may be fewer places as I heard eligible Main orchestra members are being reoffered a place (if they are the right age). This means fewer children can 'move up'. My dd has been national /residential member for 2 years and did not get into Main orchestra (we found out last night). This was a shock as she sits quite high in her section so we didn't think she was at risk. A very bitter pill to swallow, Waffle. I feel your pain. My dd took it well, I was so nervous to tell her. She has been offered reserve list and regional but I'm not sure if she'll just want to end her time with NCO on the high that was the winter concert in Birmingham a few weekends ago.

Trumpetboysmum · 13/12/2017 14:16

Well done mini marmaduke and anyone else who has heard who I've missed .
Well done to Goo though waffle I know she will be disappointed and I am truely shocked but she is fantastic and should just keep playing x

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 14:05

Thank you, Minimusiciansmama and Kutik73

Kutik73 · 13/12/2017 14:01

Congratulation minimarmaduke. Star

Minimusiciansmama · 13/12/2017 13:58

Congrats minimarmaduke!!

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 13:52

Kutik, yes, that's what I was told, too, in previous years about the standard.

Wafflenose, huge congrats to your daughter and I understand. This time last year DD1 was in a similar situation (was on the residential - after being a reserve, though).

Thanks, TrumpetVoluntary and Musicdoc, too.

Minimusiciansmama · 13/12/2017 13:46

I am so sad for Goo, big shock. Proud of her for all she's achieving. Regionals is still going to mean nco is a good part of her life but it's a hard pill for her to swallow Sad

Kutik73 · 13/12/2017 13:27

As someone pointed earlier, anyone who got a place, no matter if it's national or regional or reserve, their playing is considered to be met the NCO standard. As Goo has been in the NCO for many years, and especially U12 is a repeat to her, and also as there are no many places for her instrument, I believe NCO decided to give someone else a chance to play in the national orchestra. I can imagine how devastate she will be but it's very obvious that she is as good as anyone in the national orchestra. Seriously. We all know ho great she is.

stringchild · 13/12/2017 13:26

Waffle - I am shocked (and of course re not sharing).
