The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

I have been lurking in the shadows too! Really nervous for my DD who has auditioned on Viola for the main orchestra... Good luck everyone...

stringchild · 06/12/2017 08:08

Bumping on the basis Waffle will be right and they may start emailing today/tom...

Welcome to newcomers to the thread!

Hi Everyone, I have been lurking on this thread for a while without taking the time to sign up to mumsnet (mummy of three under 9). My oldest auditioned as well (first audition) and even if she probably messed it up, I cannot stop refreshing my email and this thread.... really best of luck to everyone, it seems to be a wealth of experience on this thread. I will definitely join in early for the thread next year x

TrumpetVoluntary · 04/12/2017 21:43

Hi. Am also very keen to receive an email. My DD has auditioned for the first time and we have no idea how likely she is to get in. I haven’t told her it might be this week as I don’t want her stressing about it. Good luck to everyone!

Pollymalex104 · 04/12/2017 18:05

Minimusiciansmama - Yes I think Waffle is probably right too. Makes good sense.

Minimusiciansmama · 04/12/2017 17:57

I reckon today was recover from concerts day.... I reckon fountain of knowledge waffle will be right

Floottoot · 04/12/2017 17:48

...I haven't been, as I don't have email on my phone - I've just been checking this thread every few hours! 😂😂

Floottoot · 04/12/2017 17:46

Shame they mentioned it was any time from today - could have saved us all the bother of feverishly checking emails!

stringchild · 04/12/2017 17:35

No idea but hope it is this week!

Definitely too late for today, unless they have them on a timer. I reckon they have been unpacking and recovering from the concert. I think they will spend a day or two collating info, making email lists, then press go. 7th has usually been the day to bring us good news in the past.

Musicdoc · 04/12/2017 16:52

I'm guessing Thursday too. Based on previous years experience - and also they seem to be very busy posting on twitter and Facebook about the Winter Concerts.. once that excitement had calmed down they will probably move onto the next thing - audition results. I heard they had more than the usual amount of violins to be moderated this year 🤦🏽‍♀️

Pollymalex104 · 04/12/2017 16:48

Wafflenose, hmm...if you've heard on the 5th before, then that would suggest two or three days after posting? Could be today or tomorrow? (Assuming the person with the finger on the button hasn't already left!)
Minimusiciansmama - yes, refreshing so many times a day is very distracting! A letter is, at least, just one moment of trauma

Trumpetboysmum · 04/12/2017 16:47

Ds reckons Thursday too . I'm hoping tomorrow as I'm not at work other days I can't check my emails till gone 3

Wafflenose · 04/12/2017 16:33

Place your bets now! I'm guessing Thursday.

Minimusiciansmama · 04/12/2017 16:20

polly I definitely would. One moment in a day when you know or not over all bloody day long!

Pollymalex104 · 04/12/2017 15:19

Hello everyone..my phone charge has plummeted to 30% from my obsessive email checking today! Not sure if at this moment I would prefer to be waiting for a letter instead.

stringchild · 04/12/2017 14:38

Bass - def agree; dd dears not even getting into the same orchestra as she got into last year (although is happy to repeat a year)

Waffle - I think the email saying the first and second week in Dec after yesterday’s concerts has advanced all our anticipation Grin nonnees fromanyone at our end either

Nigglenotes · 04/12/2017 13:31

This is true Bassclef. DD went for the 10s orchestra, but there would be a number of children who have already played in that age band who would have reauditioned for the same group and have that extra experience.

bassclef · 04/12/2017 13:24

I think it's trickier this year with the change in age banding. DS wasn't affected by the change and auditioned for Mains after being in U13 this year (and U12 the year before. However we've no idea how many of the current main orch in his instrument are young enough to reapply for Mains for a second year, which could increase competition for places significantly.

Wafflenose · 04/12/2017 13:19

I haven't heard of anyone with news yet. In previous years we have heard on December 5th, 7th and 7th, so it's early yet.

violinistmum · 04/12/2017 13:00

I agree Niggle...at least they don't know what they're missing out on. It must be really tough on the children who've made friends and then aren't able to continue. Fingers crossed we will all know soon enough Smile

Nigglenotes · 04/12/2017 12:25

It must be harder if you have already had the experience and definitely want to do it again. For DD, if she doesn't get in, I hope it won't be too disappointing as she hasn't been in NCO yet.

Concert sounds like it was fab!

Musicdoc · 04/12/2017 12:16

Violinistmum I just popped onto the thread to find out the same.... not long now... would just be good to know either way, but both of my children are desperate to get in this year, whereas over the last few years they were a bit ambivalent. Good luck all Smile

violinistmum · 04/12/2017 12:10

Just checking in to see if anyone has audition news yet?! My ds is desperate to know, but as it's our first experience of this we have no idea what to expect. I'm dreading breaking the news to him if it's not good! The best of luck to everyone waiting to hear. Not long to wait now!!

Floottoot · 04/12/2017 11:10

Waffle, it's harder when you KNOW they are able to play better than they manage in the exam/audition, isn't it? At least when they play well and aren't successful, you don't have the "if only"s.
They are so young to be performing at all; for some, it works in their favour because they haven't yet started to worry about the outcome, but for others, it's a big deal and they are desparate to do their best.
Fingers crossed for Rara.x
