How much do you pay for music lessons?

My children play a few different instruments between them and the prices vary by instrument. The most expensive is £10 per hour more than the others.

So, if you don't mind sharing, what do you pay and where in the country are you? (I'm in South West Wales)

I'm in the USA, we pay $30 for 30 minutes (which is about £24).

I think very fondly of our UK music teachers who were considerably less...

I charge £16 per half hour individual lesson (school rate) in Devon. DDs did most lessons in school so I paid the same for their lessons (DD1 x 2, DD2 just 1). DD2 learns violin outside school with someone who teaches p/t at a London conservatoire, but she charges the same for lessons at her house so I pay £24 for 45 minutes - bargain!

We pay £24 for 30 minutes individual guitar tuition via school, and £70/hr for singing tuition outside school (no, that wasn't a typo Sad). Both in central London.

The range of prices for singing teachers went from £35/hr upwards, but I had a very specific list of what I was looking for and few people could tick all the boxes. The teacher we have is superb - and I hope will be there for the long haul as DD is looking at vocational schools and a future career in that area. The difference in her voice in 5 months is phenomenal, and he's really teaching her to protect and strengthen, so I consider it a good investment. To be fair, we generally have a nice cup of coffee and a chat before or after and his knowledge of the whole industry is vast so I get as much fun out of it as DD (and try not to think how good a holiday the annual bill could pay for!)

My grandchildren are in the Sth Cheshire area. They pay £17 for 30mins for singing lessons from a teacher with 25yrs experience and have done really well, getting distinctions in their exams. I believe this is great value. You have to weigh up cost/quality of teaching/progress made when looking for a teacher. One also has piano lessons at £16 for 30mins. Fees will vary from area to area and teacher availability I would say.

Outside of school £35 per hour with experienced school. Inside school £268 per term this covers 40minute singing lesson every week, 30 minute group theory lesson and so other bits and pieces.
If they are seriously committed to music/drama you might as well empty your wallet and accept to be a taxi service. We added up weekly rehearsals, lessons etc the other day and excluding school shows DD will spend 16hours per week without doing any practice.

School music service Violin £14.50 for 20 mins individual which I think is very expensive but we couldn't fit any other out of School activity in and living rurally would struggle to find an accessible teacher. Group lessons are £ 9.80 for 30 mins but dd was practising more than the others and being held back so it was false economy.

Midlands, private piano and clarinet£16 per half hour, but very flexible and accommodating teachers. DD moves to secondary school in September and music service lessons will be £14 per half hour.

North West. Between £25 to £35 an hour depending on teacher. £25 is a recent music grad.

Only the most expensive one (voice) sticks to time, and also offers no refunds/flexibility for missed lessons. (I accept this is not unreasonable/uncommon).

Piano/theory teacher came and spent 90 minutes with DS2 going over theory last week, for free.

DD also has a 25 minute individual music lesson in school, £8 last year. This is secondary school. She achieved G8 with merit a couple of years ago so does work.

Ds has school music service lessons cello was free now £5 for 30 mins in group of 2.
Keyboard £5 for 30 mins in group of 4.

Although DS has just stopped an hour long group lesson which was only £88 per term (10 lessons) which I thought was a bargain.

Midlands- Oboe & Piano £30ph until grade 3 then £35 ph up to grade 6. Grade 7+ is £45ph.

Yes there are two of them at approx same ability. I think it is value for money. He is asd and gets a lot of enjoyment from it. He learned shape of you recently and reckons he is ed sheeran!

£22 for a 45 minute piano lesson, but that's the teacher coming to our house which costs more.
16 for a 30 minute drum lesson at the teachers house. It was £12 but he puts his prices up for grade 4 and up
