harder is it a bog camp or just the 4 people/2 tents in a field?

My unit helper leaves us at the end of term and I really need another leader, not just a helper. I'm sending missives out to all the local free press/FB groups/noticeboards etc but not holding out much hope. I can keep the meetings running with a parent rota but there's no way I can keep the number of outings and residentials up. It's a shame because we've got into a nice routine of work, adventure, residential etc but, while parent helpers are great, I cannot do all the planning, all the prep, all the clearing up and all the finances on my own any more. I have a residential all booked up for October, but won't be offering brownie holiday or camp next year unless I get more help.

drspouse · 23/06/2017 12:12

I'm also going to camp (County event) with all 4 of ours!

harderandharder2breathe · 22/06/2017 19:29

I'm off to camp this weekend with a grand total of 2 guides... good job me and other leader are enthusiastic campers! (she's experienced and enthusiastic, I'm just enthusiastic)

RueDeWakening · 20/06/2017 22:35

We sang a campfire song at the weekend that I didn't know - the final verse was something along the lines of this is the reason you should never trust a Boy Scout. Can anyone put me out of my misery and link the tune/lyrics/both?

We also did 3 blind jellyfish, which I didn't know but do now, apparently there are other verses involving eclairs, anyone know that/those?

Think bowling sounds perfect too! Been on a local hill, tree climbing and a quick game. Game ended up more of a general rampage, but all enjoyed. Lovely breeze up there

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 19/06/2017 22:47

I'm taking ours bowling. Always figured it might end up being a nice evening and not a rainy one but given my car temp gage was still showing at 32 15 minutes into my drive home at 8pm tonight and Wednesday isn't set to be much cooler, an airconditioned bowling alley sounds perfect!!

RueDeWakening · 19/06/2017 22:20

This had dropped off my posts list, so marking place again.

Not looking forward to this Friday's meeting - I've got a cheerleading coach in to run a session with the Rainbows, they're going to melt Grin

CrystalQueen · 18/06/2017 11:01

Guides had a great time at the Tartan Gig yesterday. I loved being part of such a big guiding event - even just spotting all the other coaches on the way down was fun!

harderandharder2breathe · 15/06/2017 19:02

Glad you had a good weekend! Catered is always nice! Especially as they do the dishes too!

We went to the beach with my Guides, they were happy building sandcastle for ages and had ice creams

ILookedintheWater · 13/06/2017 13:50

Lovely sleepover at the weekend. It was a catered venue so much less work than usual!
Spent last night sending out forms for camp in mid-July and an activity for a meeting later in the term.
We're off for a wander at the meeting this week, as the sixes follow each other's directions (Out and About badge) to see if they end up in the right place!

Groovee · 12/06/2017 14:57

I am in Scotland. Some leaders are on holiday while I am preparing to have surgery. It's been a tough year so far so trying hard to settle the pace down.

I was about to does double take Groovee, but of course you're in Scotland, aren't you. Good luck with your Join Us list!

Groovee · 12/06/2017 12:18

We're finished brownies for the term. But it's been a busy week due to join us enquiries. We have a lack of leaders in the area and a huge amount of girls not gone to rainbows now wanting Brownie places 🙈

I'm not worried about them being stolen - I would just rather I didn't have an extra evening of Guide stuff sprung on me, and that it wasn't assumed I'm free to do it!

CrystalQueen · 08/06/2017 12:56

Drspouse you're lucky you are allowed to put your tents up in advance. It's quite strict at our campsite - the chances of anyone finding the place to steal the tents is miniscule in my opinion!

InflagranteDelicto · 05/06/2017 23:19

DrSpouse, that sounds a lovely evening. Tomorrow is all planned, so long as the paint arrives. Pebble painting, and Japanese braid bracelets to start. Chat to be had with the 5 leavers, about leaving! And about brownie holiday, before I announce it to the wider unit at the end of the evening. Preparing for this feels a bit chicken and egg-y right now.

drspouse · 05/06/2017 16:34

We have County Camp in a few weeks' time, I'm taking all four of mine (and the oldest is moving up to be a YL with our Rainbows immediately after!)
I've just been told I need to come up to the site on one of the two days before (i.e. Weds or Thurs) to put up my and the girls' tent.
Apparently I have nothing else to do... like spend some time with my DCs and DH the week before I abandon them for camp.

CrystalQueen · 05/06/2017 12:59

survived (and even enjoyed) our County Camp with about 90 Guides. The silent disco was awesome.

drspouse · 05/06/2017 11:35

We had a walk to an estuary beach with driftwood campfire and smores - bliss!

InflagranteDelicto · 05/06/2017 00:01

Making paracord keyrings with the brownies, either this week or next... How bad could it be?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 25/05/2017 14:08

A helper's dropped out so we won't have enough adults to float, there'll be one with each small group though. Good idea to do the safety bit first before they're distracted!

InflagranteDelicto · 25/05/2017 09:43

Can send you my risk assessment! We put an adult with each group, had a few more floating. Basic safety instructions were issued before we reached the area so they could go off in their groups and go for it.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 24/05/2017 13:54

I'm den building with my Rainbows tomorrow Inflagrante, any tips?

Groovee · 24/05/2017 10:26

Oh Dr that is so sad. 😢

Haven't been on in a bit but just heard one of the girls who died in Manchester was a Brownie in our County.
