Guiders Staff Room Part 3

Thanks drspouse, I don't think I've done that with the Rainbows yet - tried once with the Guides but they were all in a very silly mood that night! I think we'll give it a go,and maybe Promise elephants to take home.

Think I might write myself a list of Promise activities for both that I can refer to, save me getting myself in a flap!

lucy I and others have done trees of hands where you think of a way to be kind and helpful and/or nice things to say about others on each hand.
Also anything relating to beliefs.

20th Footpath etc went eons ago! We've had the Adventure since then... with 2 badge styles. Have a look on GG's website for new prog info. It's more integrated across all sections and massively updated for modern life and STEM careers.

Thank you for the information. How does the programme work now? When I was last involved Brownies had Pre-promise, Footpath, Road and Highway challenges according to how long they had been members. Have these gone?

How's everyone doing? I've recruited two new volunteers for my Guides but, am losing my very lovely AL for Rainbows :(

Thankfully still have my YL, dd as Guide helper and a good group of parents (for now!)

Have any of you ever run a session on respect? I need something for my Guides.

There were a couple of minor incidents last week which I had to pull my them up on but not sure, with the giddyness of the Easter hols looming, that any attention was actually paid to what I was saying about not just randomly chucking other people's belongings (beakers and bits belonging to my Rainbows) in the bin instead of actually putting it away properly. It left me really quite pissed off tbh, it's taken me 2 years to build up resources/available funds for both units & then they randomly chuck it...through laziness/cba-ness I presume

I need to find some sort of different promise activity for my Rainbows too - we've done ordering the words, jigsaws, mobiles, books, relay races. I'm not feeling very inspired by any of them atm . Hopefully a scroll of Pinterest in the morning will have something jumping out at me!

Day off work to recover from Brownie Holiday. Absolutely shattered. We were down to 3 leaders as one had surgery last week, then I developed an awful sore neck/throat/ear/eye thing down one side of my face. I am never risking a whole weekend with bare minimum ratios again. It was so tiring. Got home at 6, in bed by 8.
Girls had a great time though: no falling out and hardly any tears all weekend. Lots of things they liked, nothing any of them would change and everyone tried at least one new food or activity. I'm off for a nap!

I just tried to buy National Express coach tickets with the promo discount code on the Guiding website.

It worked out £1 more than the cost of booking without the discount!!!

Register on girlguiding.org.uk. Think its the get involved link, it's not hard to follow. That will send a notification to the DC of your area, and should get the ball rolling. You might need to try a couple of units to get a good fit, something which can be glossed over.

If you have your membership number it might help locate your records, but because you've been out of guiding for a while you'll need to redo your leadership qualification. You'll be assigned a mentor for that, but it's not hard, I did mine in 3 months.

There's all sorts of fb groups too, once you get going. A lot are closed, and need proof of membership, but we can walk you through that later!

How do you become a Guider now-a-days? I don't know anyone currently involved and don't see local Brownie groups out and about or advertising any events.

I'd been running a Brownie Pack whilst I was at University in the 1990's, which I left when I graduated and got a job elsewhere, then never had time to go back due to work and life. Many years on, I have more available time and I'd like to get back into Guiding, but, without any connections, I don't really know how.

How do I find a unit?
Would they even want me after so long?
Will I recognise Guiding - how much have the programme and the organisation changed since 1997?

All advice gratefully received.

Her daughter went, along with 3 others to the guide unit we feed to. Dd1 goes there, for goodness sake! But 3/4 weeks in the daughter stopped going, no word from her (WO) to the Guide leaders either. We'd had a disappearing Brownie while she was a leader with me, she knew what the not knowing was like.

I knew the head was a leader, Wise Owl works at the school. But she's gone out of her way (literally, head down and avoiding eye contact if passed at the school gate) to avoid me. Not a word other than an email to say what a great job I was doing and that she had stuff going on.

Ffs, why isn't she have said! I'm not an ogre. I've have been sad to hear that, but could have organised a good bye for the brownies, who missed her. Would have known where I stood leadership team wise. I'm so lucky, as she disappeared I found 2 young leaders and then a Lit on fb, then her friend also came as a LiT. So it's OK. But equally, I'm surprised at how upset I am that she couldn't tell me. I know I'm not the most cuddly, touchy feely of people, but Ffs!

Do you remember back in Sept I had a leader who disappeared without a word? Lives up the road from me, but avoided me at every opportunity despite working at dd2's school? Solved that mystery this weekend.

The head at the school is a leader at a guide unit in a village a few miles away, turns out Wise Owl and her daughter have gone there. Doesn't surprise me, she's always been heavily involved in her daughters activities (and the older ones). Just wish she'd felt able to say she wasn't coming back.

Watching with interest, a trip to I Andi is in my list. You might get more answers on the fb page though.

It looks like we're heading to ICANDO for Friday night in summer. It'll be the first time that I've taken Brownies by train and first time with them to London, although I've been many times myself or with family.

Any tips please? Dos and Don'ts?

A few of us gender critical guiders have got together away from MN to share ideas and think about how we might challenge this policy. Our individual letters to GGHQ have been ignored or dismissed but there is strength and safety in numbers.

I can't work out how to PM from the app. Can someone PM me please? I feel so strongly about this subject.

The response I got on SS training was that it's out of GGs hands. They have to comply with the law.

Saw that, I have significant concerns about self id in general but think that this is a really poor way to approach it.
