Fleur Our accompanist charges between £25-£35 (I can't remember) and he is worth his weight in gold.

I went to the Yamaha shop in central London yesterday to buy some sheet music and had a good ogle at the flutes (at least nobody is doing the French horn here), the electronic violins and cellos (ugly), the clavinova (really not for me) and the marimbas ().

Loose great to hear the grade 6 exam went well!

Mending new instrument for Christmas! I bet DD will be excited.

Anybody knows how much a accompanist charges for an exam? DD's piano teacher won't charge us and I wonder how much would somebody charge, I may make an overpayment next time we pay for piano.

Yesterday we took DD2 to try out flutes at a specialist flute shop, the guy that runs it is a professional flautist with a tiny but impressively stocked flute shop. So she tried a few, and the Christmas present is now purchased

Oh poor Fleur and minifleur - you must both be shattered. Stomach bugs can be very scary!
Alexandra - complete and utter respect to you - that is amazingly brave and I could never do it!
Waffle - poor Goo, that sounds very painful. Hope the bruising is getting better - and maybe a little pause in games for a while?
PaulWeller I don't know of jazz drum exams but I will see if DS1 has any vaguely suitable books!
DS1 did his G6 bass exam yesterday and then sauntered off to a birthday party ignoring my texts asking how it went! When I eventually managed to lure him home he said he thought it mostly went well and he didn't have an attack of nerves this time!
DS2 clearly projected his deep loathing of his latest piano piece all too clearly in his last lesson as his teacher breezily said let's put it to one side and do something from the grade 4 book. He can now pretty much play The Happy Farmer hands separately after one lesson and I can tell he's itching to put hands together! He needs to slow down a bit! He's really making me look bad!

She's better, much better today but we won't risk it so she won't do her sport today, only music.

Gosh fleur - completely forgot to say - how's the patient today?

So, I know there's Jazz piano grades, are there any jazz drums graded exams, if not are there any books suitable for a gr2 drummer that are jazz?
Any ideas Loose or Drummersmum, or anyone else?

Oh no I hope everyone recovers soon. Ds loves sport too and has recently been playing proper rugby at school I'm quite relieved that they've stoped that for a bit 😀I never know what to get their music teachers for Christmas especially the 30 something male trumpet teacher so will be watching with interest in case anyone has any ideas

Does anyone give music teachers in school Christmas presents? We have always given the violin teacher (at home) something but I'm wondering if I should get a token of thanks for the clarinet teacher too. He's a 50 something male ?

Poor Goo! Miniprada once had a broken wrist that no one took seriously at school even though she had told 4 adults that it was seriously hurting.

Festival went well today. One more class tomorrow (yay!)

Waffle - ice and arnica. We use arnica cream that you can buy from the supermarket. Brings the bruising out really quickly, but needs to be used fairly soon after the injury. Hope it's better soon.

Fleur - hope minifleur is better soon - and doesn't share it round the family.

Waffle so sorry to hear Goo had another accident!

Well we had some fun too, ended up in A&E last night with DD who was screaming in pain with her stomach. She was going to the toilet a bit often but then the pain must have been really bad so I decided to google it and realised that the symptoms could show appendicitis. Called 111 and we were asked to go to A&E. All ok, apparently it was a stomach bug.

She is much better today thank god but we are exhausted as we barely slept last night.

Waffle I have frequently been grateful that DS has never been sporty. On the run up to auditions/residentials I have written letters to school asking for him to be kept out of goal and away from hard ball sports. The kit cupboard must be immaculate given the hours that he's spent cleaning it out.

Accidents happen, you don't have to be clumsy to have one. It presumably isn't very painful or has she been soldiering on?

Today's musical news is that DH had his G2 jazz piano today. The centre had jazz exams all morning, we saw two pianists and four saxophonists while we were there (we were waiting to speak to the last candidate of the morning). Just for once the adults had the children outnumbered, I saw two under 16s and the rest were adults.
