Hi, have just joined here so hope I am posting in the correct place. Just wondering if anyone here has a child auditioning for NYMT or similar groups this year.
My DD (age 11 ) is auditioning next sunday

I'll have to check with my student later to see if he's had audition stuff through. It's the last night of our school show tonight and he's the lead - I'm hoping he's had it - recalls are next weekend and we're now on half term! I'm the only person he has to go over stuff with.

aplo · 10/02/2017 15:34

Loving the cardinal drama mother errors!!
Congrats to your Dd Jan, Sunday is one of my favourite shows.
We are contemplating here if we should drive to a YMT audition tomorrow - audition is Sunday and we have friends to stay with nearby. It would be a nice back up plan at the very least!! Just trying to work out the logistics of my two ds's for the weekend and might just go!
Still no email here for the recalls but just realised that this time next week we will be in London! It's all getting very real now.

No, it's a really good strategy! You will probably find out about NYMT first unless YMT have got faster at the casting process, so if your DD gets in, that's great, but if she doesn't, you may well find she's got a YMT place. If she's good enough to get an NYMT recall I would say that bodes well, because I think YMT are probably slightly easier to get into by virtue of having more productions, and also because NYMT cast first, which means YMT don't get everyone they initially select and so there is a bit of movement on their reserve lists...
I like the notion of cardinal drama mother errors though. We should have a separate thread about those...

janinlondon · 10/02/2017 14:48

OH thank you! I was worried I'd committed cardinal drama mother error 101...

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2017 14:44

Lots of people do! DS hasn't, but a few of his NYMT friends last year had auditioned for both and one even DID both in one summer!

janinlondon · 10/02/2017 14:39

Thanks - yes, she is 17, but we are total newbies at this. She also auditioned for the YMT, and I cant find anyone else who is juggling both!

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2017 14:34

Ah, that proves my theory! Your DD must be older if she has a Sunday in the Park recall. Good luck to her!

janinlondon · 10/02/2017 14:26

Thank you both for the info. Yes, DD has a recall for Sunday in the Park (and Princess).

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2017 14:22

Oh yes, good luck everyone. It's such a great thing to be a part of, I hope all our DC have a brilliant time at the recalls.

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2017 14:20

Hello JaninLondon, have you got a recalled DC too? Which show(s)?

Last year it came as an email with links to a DropBox with all the material in it. I imagine it will be the same this time. Hope that helps.

Pinkstargazer12 · 10/02/2017 14:19

Hi there. The info came by email. Jeremy has just confirmed no recall for little princess.

Thanks for your support and best of luck to all the talented kids!!

janinlondon · 10/02/2017 13:56

PSG12 - Sorry, can I ask, did the recall info come by email or post please?

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2017 13:35

Aplo it would be nice if it meant they didn't have to disappoint too many people after the recalls. OK, so it's not a fully-produced show, but it's still a week of top quality experience, a residential with like-minded kids and some industry pros. Plus it might well develop into something bigger in the future.. And dates-wise it might be possible to do that AND Honk or Billy the Kid, so I wonder if that's also an option?

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2017 13:19

Thanks Pinkstar, good to know now that we will need a pianist and some help!!

aplo · 10/02/2017 13:15

We have nothing here yet either. Biscuits we were thinking the same about a little princess too, as it is a workshop they might not have as clear an idea of what they are looking for there so everyone who is good enough for a recall has been recalled for it possibly- all of Dds friends from the Gala who have had recallls are all recalled for princess too!
Will let you know when we get material!

Pinkstargazer12 · 10/02/2017 13:07

Thanks Biscuits, I think you are probably correct. If you do get anything let me know.

Honk is sheet music - 2 songs to learn and a bit of the script. Not too much.

Biscuitsneeded · 10/02/2017 12:49

Haven't received anything yet here but will let you know when we do. I imagine there just isn't anything to prepare. Everyone we know who's been recalled has been recalled for A Little Princess, and it's a workshop as opposed to a full-blown production, so I wonder if their plan is to cast everything else first and then see who else they really liked but hasn't been allotted a role? (Not meaning to suggest it will be a 'second'best' option, but NYMT are REALLY good at casting and will want to get the very best fits for the roles in the 4 main productions that will be seen by the public, so to me it would then make sense that they would then offer workshop places to the people they really liked but weren't able to cast elsewhere.) I'm sure you'll hear back, don't worry. What's the Honk stuff like? Sheet music or audio tracks?

Pinkstargazer12 · 10/02/2017 12:24

Hi again. My daughter has just received the recall info for Honk but there is nothing for the Little Princess (the initial email stated she had been recalled for this) I've emailed but as yet no reply. I have also tried to call. Did your children receive any prep for this? She has a singing lesson tonight and this maybe the only opportunity to go through with a pianist. Ahhhhh!!!

janinlondon · 09/02/2017 11:19

Such talented children on this thread!!

Pinkstargazer12 · 09/02/2017 09:08

Great news for you and your son! I emailed Jeremy yesterday to ask when the schedule will be out and he replied to say it will be this week.

aplo · 08/02/2017 23:10

Absolutely delighted to hear that! Congratulations to him(and you!!!)

Biscuitsneeded · 08/02/2017 22:13

DS got recalled for Honk, Imaginary and A little Princess. Phew! That was an anxious wait.

Pinkstargazer12 · 06/02/2017 15:36

Thank you Biscuits. Think I will wait and see. The Tate sounds like a lovely option to while away a few hours.

Best of luck to your son!

Biscuitsneeded · 05/02/2017 22:02

Thanks Aplo - will update when we have news!

aplo · 05/02/2017 21:53

That sounds great Biscuits, singing is always a good sign in this house. No fixed date for the recalls yet here and none of the Irish gang have either.
My seven year old got an email today to say he has been cast in his drama school show at Easter (I don't have the heart to tell him that I think all kids his age were cast) he feels like he has a lead in a west end show at the moment!
Hopefully they will be quick getting back to you this week and the news will be good!!!
Some of Dds friends from the gala auditioned this weekend too so she is hoping she gets to see them in a few weeks.
