After school dance club?

DD (14) wants to start after school dance club when term starts. She has never shown an interest before but I don't want to put her off.

Kit letter received at end of term says PE kit or loose clothes and "dance shoes or bare feet" - there's the rub! Dance shoes are expensive so my proposal was bare feet - what does everyone think? Don't want to spend a load of money if she is not going to stick it but don't want her to stand out from the crowd?

Foot undees are yet another thing for my dd to lose!

Seriously they are flesh coloured foot coverings for dance ususlly modern or contemporary.

I think part of the problem is she is not keen on going barefoot - it's a teen thing I think, I remember I was not that keen on it when I was at school and doing dance/gym etc

Agree with Katy. My guess is it will be contemporary/modern based so bare feet is the convention but anything high impact like street dance should be trainers but it's common/understandable for teachers to not want students dancing in outdoor street shoes.

Some children may have jazz or ballet shoes already & may prefer to wear them. You can get basic ones for around £10-15

Try it in bare feet then she can see what others wear. Basic jazz shoes (which are light and flexible for most generic dance classes) cost between £10-15. Dance direct and eBay are good places to look.

I'm assuming that the either or bit means she can go for both but obviously she is keen on the dance shoes - I'm tempted just to tell her no, I think bare feet are fine.

Jazz shoes start at about £12 but aren't really necessary unless the floor is poor

Depends on the type of dance it is, if it's contemporary bare feet will be fine - Jazz, Tap & Ballet need proper shoes, although some Jazz/Modern will be bare feet too

Commercial/street/hiphop will need well fitting supportive trainers
