Guiders Staff Room Part 2

Canada, Albus, hence the cookies. I did my maths homework and checked the bank balances and have about $1300 to raise in two weeks. Not quite as bad as I thought, but then we'll have to play catch-up to replenish the bank accounts... So, I'm off to the grocery store to sell cookies for 6 hours lol... I have other volunteers for tomorrow, but today it's just me and dd1 and 2 (who are thrilled. Not.) The joy of being a guider's kid. One of them isn't even going on the camp lol.
No meetings next week as it's half term here, so next meeting is Thinking Day .

We're not, it clashes with a district event. We've done the cup challenge- awesome! Got giant art attack and super stars lined up for the next half term. Then celebrate for just after Easter. Our one leaver will come back for a couple of meetings to finish it off.

Pity. I did Celebrate! and that was great fun.

Would have offered M&M but there's a big region event that I am hoping to do instead.

Not going to Spark Becles, I couldn't get my head around it enough to decide if it was worth going or not.

We are doing Magic and Mayhem overnight in the summer though.

I have two weeks until the final payment is due for our national jamboree. I am currently 6k short. I have 3k of damned cookies in inventory and no other option but to emotionally blackmail parents into getting their girls to sell the damned things...

Anyone can sign - girls, parents, man in supermarket when you take them to Farm to Fork. The girls love signing it!

Just booked myself a trip to Pax Lodge, I am waay to excited about it, and no one at home understands why I would want to go "on brownie camp without the brownies"

Do a fire drill with the girls and get one of them to sign it off.

Quick LQ question - I'm just updating our risk assessment so going to put a copy in the relevant part. It also says to explain or show how you'd carry out a fire drill in the meeting place - I'm not sure what sort of format to do it in...

Bullett point instructions? List of fire exits and extinguishers? & meeting point?

I'd rather do it in person but it's one of the things on my list for next time I see my mentor.

I want to do a Ready Steady Cook type activity with my Guides for pancake toppings. Every single suggestion on the Guides Facebook page has been how to make pancakes - I don't want them to make pancakes! Any thoughts on collections of savoury ingredients to give them? Should be veggie too (but they are mainly OK eating proper veggies!)

Ooh, I'm looking forward to tomorrow night. Our ALiT has a Chinese friend - this friend has dropped off a whole bag full of beautiful things to show the girls. There are lanterns, and decorations, and a noddy cat, and a silk scroll decoration. I wish I'd thought sooner to take some red card from the cupboard to make some of the lucky envelopes she has dropped off (not enough for all the girls). I think printing templates in red would eat my ink like it's going out of fashion unfortunately.

ALiT also has some things of her own for the girls to look at & a couple of easy crafts for us to do.

I'm having a JoinUs 'moment'. A parent has registered both his dd's. One is older than the other by 11 months. I can't decide whether to send one email and make him aware that there won't necessarily be two places at the same time, or send two separate emails and hope he doesn't expect two places to crop up simultaneously .

Also stalled a little on my LQ. Need a copy of the handbook but no-one has one I can borrow until they're back in stock in the online shop.

Turns out my 21 year old leader in training can't come after all my questions Still, it's good to know that she is an adult (!) for future trips out. Yes, she is DBS checked (or whatever it's called).

And that's great news about the parent counting towards ratios.

Even a parent helper without a DBS can count in ratios (as long as you don't leave her alone with children).

Can anyone help me with these queries?

1. I have a leader in training who is 21. Is she in the senior section and a young leader, or is she a regular adult? (She hasn't come from a guiding background).

2. Does a parent helper count in the ratios for leaving the meeting place?

Basically I need another adult to allow us to attend a craft morning and I don't know if my 21 year old is allowed to count or if I need to ask a parent. Thanks in advance.
