I have it on my list Imfine, just haven't been back to town yet so not got one & our Post Office is pricey for stationery.

Imfinehowareyou · 22/04/2016 11:31

lucysmam why don't you get a receipt book? They're dead cheap and will be the perfect record for you. I tell my parents I will just write them a receipt and they go 'noo, don't bother' and I want to reply ''BUT IT"S FOR ME!!!'

Had a mum exclaim over the good value she gets for the subs and told me her daughter loves Rainbows Grin Makes it all worthwhile!

lucysmam · 21/04/2016 21:14

I had visions of something going wrong with our paperwork Imfine but so far so good

Hopefully the subs mystery will be solved easily - AL hasn't been in all day so am still in the dark. 4 have paid in full, so leaves 8 to pay £2. So should have £16. Plus 3 weeks missed week's subs = £22. Plus one paid an extra week because that's what she had in her pocket. So total should be £24. But only £22 cash but everyone ticked. Definitely paid mine because I only ever take my girl's subs with me & didn't come back with it in my pocket. Confused. Sure we'll get to the bottom of it.

Imfinehowareyou · 21/04/2016 14:01

lucysmam that was really thoughtful of you to post the activities. A lovely way to support your Rainbow.

I hope you get to the bottom of the missing subs. Hopefully someone will bring theirs next week and it will be solved easily.

I wish Girlguiding had more input into the banking side. It shouldn't be so complicated. My bank has lost our completed forms so we have to redo the whole thing. Very frustrating. This time I am filling in two forms so if it happens again I am ready!

lucysmam · 21/04/2016 09:19

My little Rainbow came and said hello but didn't stay Sad. I text her mum to ask if she might like the activities I could post & she said yes so I've sent her them with a little note saying I hope she enjoys them and we're looking forward to seeing her when she feels ready to come back.

Bank paperwork finally arrived so is off back this morning. Hopefully won't take tooooo long now to finish setting up.

I'm 99% sure one of the girls didn't pay subs on Tuesday because of the amount we took but our AL took subs while I was sorting party things & has ticked everyone as paid so am a little confused. Will sort it out with her later on.

AlbusPercival · 21/04/2016 08:12

Argh accounts, have just outsourced mine to another member of leadership team.

So relieved!

Imfinehowareyou · 18/04/2016 21:51

Ha ha - thank you! Still BlushBlushBlush

lucysmam · 18/04/2016 21:50

Imfine, that sounds like VERY hard work! I think I'm actually over by about 50p for the couple of weeks I've been in charge of the accounts!

Still no bank paperwork yet

The Rainbow whose mum lost the baby is likely to be joining us tomorrow. Hopefully our party with the Brownies will provide a welcome distraction for a little while. I've offered to send her some of the activities we're doing if she doesn't feel up to coming.

Have been wracking my brains trying to think of a way to make something personal for the LiC I'm taking over from without her figuring out what we're up to & come up with texting/emailing round parents as well as a post on fb asking them to get their Rainbows to make a daffodil each (of a certain size ish) and squirrel them to me or our AL so we can turn them into a handmade card. Some may not do it but I'd guess most will.

Groovee · 18/04/2016 20:58

Glad it's sorted X

BlushBlushBlush

Please ignore my last post!

I have spent HOURS rechecking and I think it was a double entry. £120 subs entered as cash then half of it used as petty cash and half banked at a later date. The £60 banked was included making it £180 subs instead of £120. You still with me?!!

I have had to go through old half filled registers to try and match subs paid with girls attending. There is no consistent record of who has paid and who hasn't. I have found two girls with no confirmation of paid subs to explain the missing £40.

There is still about £5 missing. Still, donating £5 is better than £40!

None of this makes sense to me. I can happily report that my 2016-17 accounts are up to date and I will not be leaving this mess for anyone else when I leave (which will be tomorrow the way I feel now Grin)

Sorry for the panic!

Imfinehowareyou · 18/04/2016 15:17

lucysmam I'm sorry to hear your news. I expect your Rainbow will appreciate the normality of a Rainbows session.

I have finished doing the accounts (took over club in last third of financial year) and we are approx £40 out Shock What do I do? I know it could be an accounting error but I've been through countless times and it all adds up. I really don't think anyone has stolen it. It could be an expense that was reimbursed but not recorded but I can't think of anything. Or it could be that until I took over, the cash was all rattling around in the bottom of a very cluttered canvas shopper bag (open top) and it has somehow fallen out.

Am I liable to pay for this missing money? Or do these things get written off? I'm so cross because the leader before me was so slapdash with the physical cash but I am now the one responsible.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

lucysmam · 16/04/2016 17:01

Thanks Rue, I'll have a search later on once my two go to bed.

RueDeWakening · 16/04/2016 15:59

Leave it to the Rainbow to lead. She may not refer to it at all, or be quite matter of fact about things. She may ask questions (she's likely to feel comfortable around you and ask stuff she may not feel able to ask her mum yet). She's not likely to want deep answers, just factual and age appropriate simple ones.

I've had to answer questions for my own daughter after her godmother was killed, I would emphasise that there's no right or wrong way to feel, that however she feels is the right way for her, even if it's different to how her mum or other family feels, and that its ok to laugh, be happy etc as well as cry and feel sad.

^^ that's a cut and paste from my response to a thread on the FB group from last year, the advice stands. Search for grief or similar on that group, there's a few threads that pop up which might be helpful.

lucysmam · 16/04/2016 12:57

I had a "just so you know" text from one of our Rainbows mums this morning - she went into labour very early and lost the baby. I've never dealt with anything like this, have no idea what to say. I just said we're sorry and if there's anything we can do to help to let us know. Is there anything else I could/should have said?

RueDeWakening · 15/04/2016 22:36

I am drinking my wine right now :o

The sheet is a word doc with text boxes, saying:

  1. Somewhere I would like to visit:
  2. Something I would like to do:
  3. A day trip I would like to do:
  4. I would like to learn to:
  5. Something I would like to make:
  6. I would like to raise money for this charity:
  7. At Rainbows I like being in a big group/in a small group/on my own
  8. I would like to cook:
  9. The best thing I have done at Rainbows...
10. The thing I always tell people about Rainbows...

We got some lovely answers tonight - and some completely indecipherable ones. One wanted to learn to kooc (sic), quite a few want to raise money for the Dogs Trust (I suspect they might have been into school recently!) or our local hospital.
Lots want a trip to Legoland as their day trip, too.

lucysmam · 15/04/2016 19:16

What are your What Rainbows like to do sheets like? I've made an All About Me sheet that I thought might be helpful for planning but it didn't get done 1st night back because we played with the Brownies and their parachute & then this week we were busily busy doing alllll sorts.

lucysmam · 15/04/2016 19:13

Sounding very organised Rue...you forgot the Wine for later on though Grin

Lloyds rang me earlier, just waiting for paperwork to sign and send back. Handily both me and the second signatory bank with others in the same group of banks, and she lives next door but one to me so we don't need to take ID to town & I can knock on for an autograph. Hoping it doesn't take long to get to me now.

RueDeWakening · 15/04/2016 14:25

Right, I am elbow-deep in paper ready for Rainbows in 90 minutes.

I've got:
Newsletters
Term plans for me & AL
General health plan for a new starter
Starting Rainbows forms x a bajillion (7 new starters plus a couple of spares)
What Rainbows like to do sheets for them to complete to help with planning
Register
Badges to show what we're doing this term
Squash & biscuits inc gluten free ones
My sanity nope, that ones disappeared :o

Groovee · 15/04/2016 14:20

I would probably say that Flossie would have to wait. I had one like this. Wanted to delay their starting date. Then she changed her mind but it was the wording "we will see you at 6.30pm!" That got my back up. Just presuming they could come.

OP posts:
momb · 15/04/2016 12:22

Tactful reply is 'I'm afraid I no longer have places for this term. Flossie has been put back on the waiting list and I'll let you know as soon as the next place comes up', and then give her the next space. 7 year olds are fickle things!

Becles · 15/04/2016 07:51

Ah the age v suitability conundrum. I had to tell the girls last year that Sixers are chosen by the Owls and not them... there were a few crestfallen faces.

Last week was spent chasing up a response to the offer of a place. Mum finally came back and said Flossie not keen. Offered a couple of taster sessions , but no. Kicked off join us and moved on to the next who accepted 10 minutes later.

Cue this week when mum 1 emails back to say Flossie has changed her mind as all her classmates have been raving about how great Brownies is.Hmm

Ye Guiders of wisdom help me word a tactful reply and to decide if she goes to the front or back of 10 girls I have no space for at the moment (also have another 6 due to turn 7 in September). Not to mention that I have to get County to locate the record and send it back to join usWine

To complicate things I'm trying to get a new starter to move to a unit much closer to her home and may have a space in the next couple of weeks. Does that go to the current waiting list or doubting Flossie?

Groovee · 14/04/2016 22:38

I'm organising a camp in less than a month and my computer has decoder no wis the time to stop working! Aaaah. Thank god for the iPad, but i can't very Well make consent forms on here.

Groovee · 14/04/2016 17:34

Ah my first ever "my daughter is devastated that she wasn't promoted" email. It wasn't done in age order this time it was done according to sixes. I knew mum would be emailing.

OP posts:
lucysmam · 14/04/2016 13:00

I didn't make the call Albus, will check when I see the person who did. We'll give it this week & if nothing then offer the place to the next girl on the list.
