Guiders Staff Room Part 2

I thought I had a screenshot but it seems not - I've seen those swishy ribbons done using shower curtain rings to tie them round but that might be no good with a room full of Rainbows if they can't do the knots.

Would they enjoy making up their own dance routine Rue? Maybe make some of those swirly ribbons on sticks to swish about first? Split into groups and ask them to show everyone else what they come up with.

Our Brownies leader emailed me this morning - our rooms are being decorated and everything is being temporarily moved. Nice of them to let her know and not me . I just hope it is temporary and my photo's & everything else comes back!

Argh, just had email from the cheerleading coach I'd booked for tomorrow's meeting saying that they're not coming.

We've never had a chat about behaviour expectations. Just expected the new girls to pick it up from the older ones. So I think a chat clarifying my expectations is probably overdue. Gah. And last week was so good too. Hope you can get a replacement certificate - I can't see why they wouldn't do that for you.

I have my fingers crossed! I can't find a contact form on BaB website either & talking to them on my phone is like pulling teeth (weak signal + train track = can't hear a bloody thing). Will have to nip in when I next go to town.

I'm sure it's just excitement for the hols; plus it's rather warm here & ours are usually giddier when it's hot.

Thank you for saying behaviour is end of term related. Had a bit of a woe is me moment with DH and have sent him out for comfort food!!

My dd is often my worst offender Imfine, I put it down to beong knackered at the last few weeks of term - everyone is worse than usual!

I have just realised (literally just!) Someone has taken down our little display board in the room we use - loads of photo's, artwork and Bluebell's birth cert from Build a Bear & they didn't leave them for us . Just about to fire off an email to the lady who gave me the go ahead for Guides in the hopes she knows who might have taken it down to find out where ut all is. If not then hopefully BaB might be able to print us another cert; I was going to stick it all in a scrapbook for us to look back on.

Ugh - such a draining meeting tonight. It started well but they were just really daft and mucking about all the time. Every time I had to get them together it was such a drag with different ones not doing as they were told. I think I need a Rainbow chat next week at the start to say how I expect them to behave. My DD was one of the worst but I've read the riot act to her at home.So annoying when you have spent ages planning and getting there early to set up etc.

As in - you can amble along even if everyone else is marching/walking in step. As long as the Rainbows are just walking, you're fine.

Can you tell I had this argument not so long back with a Scouter insistent on showing how namby-pamby GG were and how we banned parades etc. He was fun

Yy just remembrance parade etc. We participate in church parade several times a year, as we're an open sponsored unit (as are the other 8 (!) GG/Scouting units that use their hall!) and it's been much better since we got our flag, as previously Rainbows were the only units without one.

Oh lucysmam I can't stand flaky people. Although I think I would have been more annoyed if he had turned up after all your hard work with the printer!!

Becles i would say free cake!! We had a recruitment stand at a recent fair and it was not popular. Get them in with something else then start chatting.

What do you all mean by parades? Have I forgotten to do something with my group? Or is this for St. Georges Day/Remembrance Sunday walks through towns?

Just been offered a stand for recruitment next month. Any ideas for what we can display or use to occupy people and get potential adults to sign up?

We tend to moochy along with the other groups and have a chat rather than "parade"...that would be interesting with some of them

Rue You can parade! Well, process, because parade is classes as marching in step, which I can't imagine anyone sensible would attempt with rainbows or Guides anyway

No idea what I did but it is finally printing flash cards! No idea when I'm going to cut them out mind, we're off to the park after school for an hour.

Not heard about that - sounds interesting though. The LASER Growing Up Wild badges have been really useful for me, they've pushed me out of my comfort zone a bit!

If they want a more seamless transition from Rainbows to Brownies, they could stop treating Rainbows like babies and saying we're not allowed to parade, no interest badges, more limited programme...just some suggestions at least we have a flag now!

I'm having a proper 'moment' with my printer. I have police lady masks printed in a fetching mix of black/lilac...no flash cards and every page but page 4 of the Rainbow Summer Challenge has printed properly Oh and dd2 wants me to print photo's from Friday's trip to the park for Bluebell's diary...not a flippin' chance at this rate!

I have eaten up my entire hour (and more) today alone fighting with the printer!

Has anyone heard about the changes to the guiding programme to be in place for Sep 2017? My division has just had a meeting about it. Apparently guiding is perceived as too girly and focused on crafts and needs to be more adventurous.

There were good suggestions of pre-prepared activities to cut down on leader admin time. Also they want it to be a more seamless transition from Rainbows to Brownies to guides etc.

You never know dogdrifts. I'm a Ranger leader and we have some wildly enthusiastic ones, but many who mostly come to eat stuff and gossip. But I live in hope that even with those girls I'm planting seeds that may come to fruition in 10 or 20 years time when they decide to give something back to their communities and think of Guiding.

dr, the first thing I do with my gals every year (we are o'seas so guiding sections are different - my unit starts at 12) is discuss budgeting. Our finances run in a different way to GGUK (we have to sell girl guide cookies to finance activities) so the first thing we do is our wish list of activities for the year, and then break a few of them down for costs and work out how many cases of cookies we need to sell to do them. (Or how much we need to charge parents etc). We have learned the hard way that parents moan if they are asked to sell too many cookies, but equally moan if we raise costs for camp etc. Can't have it both ways!

Rue I am lol at your steps count. I did the same thing at camp last weekend and ended up with over 52k for the weekend. I was in bed at 8.30 . We didn't even hike. That was literally just walking round the site. Fifty thousand times.

Ah, my years is so close to over. Unit meetings now finished, just our national jamboree in July to go (final parent meeting next week). The jamboree admin has been shocking, and they keep sending random unexpected requests that have to be completed and sent back immediately, usually requiring information from each parent. Two of my patrol live a 14 hour drive away and I have never met them (we are their host patrol) and even my own gals are impossible to get hold of now that we have had our final meeting. Sigh. Tonight I get to drive three hours to pick up our camp swag though .

dr - we had a brief period where the gals all left to join scouts (the scouts had a big trip they were planning). They all came back when we were running our own trip lol). Shallow, really. In all honesty I can't get too excited about it. We run our activities for the girls who are there - it's nice to have a full unit, but it can be easier to run quality activities with a slightly smaller group sometimes!!! And I know the girls who stay are there because they want to be. Our town has so many youTh activities we are a bit of an also-ran. I try not to take it personally!!
