Grin

Are any of your dcs doing an audition for the National Children's orchestra this month?

Dd (9) is trying for the under 11s orchestra. It is her first audition and she is violinist.

She is desperate to get in and I am hoping for the best for her! Smile

Gampy..>Where are you based? Just wondering if your daughter will be in our regionals? We do South Westerlies.

musicjane · 22/12/2014 14:19

It is the most fabulous experience...My son played in it last year and has got an under 11s place this year too (Clarinets). I was really worried about how he would cope with the course but they employ fabulous social staff (ex NCO players) and it is so well organised there is really no need to worry. Also it is possible you can meet some other course members if you do the regional orchestras which re monthly and the most amazing experience. You can agree to have your name on lists so that you know who else is going on the course your child is attending and can make contact with anyone local to you before hand and arrange play dates etc. Enjoy your NCO journey. It is the experience ever for musical children!

Excellent janet - I will message you.

janet41 · 15/12/2014 08:53

Lilly - dd also under 10s and happy to join up. Wafflenose - I think you are I SW from you other posts re swms? We spend most of the holidays in Devon (near exeter)if you ever want a coffee meet up ahead of the summer

Wafflenose · 12/12/2014 12:13

The FAQs on the website say no, as a rule. But they will consider it in the case of complex medical issues or similar.

My DD will be there. Nearer the time, we could get them to look out for each other, if that will be helpful?

Lilly2013 · 11/12/2014 00:49

My daughter auditioned for the first time and got into the under 10 Orchestra. Can you do the course and be non residential?

GampyWabbit · 09/12/2013 14:14

We got our offer for under 11 on Friday, but others at our music school (who are more advanced than dd, hadn't yet heard). Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news for you.

Thanks, maggiethecat! Nothing in today's post so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

maggiethecat · 09/12/2013 11:51

don't know but would think it depends on post - we got ours on saturday morning so your letter could be on its way this morning if you haven't already got your post today.
good luck!

Grayt1234 · 09/12/2013 11:43

Do you know if all under 11s letters went out last week? My dd auditioned and we haven't heard anything yet. She's 9. Hope this doesn't mean it's bad news...

maggiethecat · 09/12/2013 01:03

Definitely fingers (and toes) crossed for you! Dd played in another orchestra and they played Finlandia this year and while it was haunting, joyful, rousing etc, the excerpt of the NCO version on the website sounded AMAZING.
Agree -it is difficult to remember how young these children are.
Glad you enjoyed it, shame we do not live down south anymore or else I would have been at southbank.

DarkHorse2013 · 09/12/2013 00:14

Only just got home, and the concert was amazing, hard to believe they are all so young and yet produce that standard of music! Sounds like they all had a wonderful weekend too - now we just need a good week with a nice YES for Main - fingers crossed......

maggiethecat · 08/12/2013 21:56

Darkhorse, I imagine that you attended the concert, how was it? The excerpt that I heard (Sibellius) sounded amazing!

GampyWabbit · 06/12/2013 23:34

Yay, well done to him!

Any info about the regional rehearsals and residential course would be greatly appreciated!

Well done Gampy's dd! Ds got into Training Orchestra and is thrilled with no signs of nerves about the course yet. Has anyone's dc experience of Regional orchestra?

DarkHorse2013 · 06/12/2013 22:57

GampyWabbit Congratulations to your daughter - I hope she really enjoys it! My daughter has to wait until next week to find out as she's currently in U13s and auditioned for Main, and they don't get to find out until after this weekend's concert! Stress!

GampyWabbit · 06/12/2013 22:48

Dd got a place in under 11s orchestra with violin Grin. Very happy for her!!

Anyone else had results?

maggiethecat · 29/10/2013 09:37

Yes Gampy. Probably about first week.

GampyWabbit · 28/10/2013 16:02

Will it definitely be dec that we hear the outcome of the audition?

Popcorn, as long as he is not too daunted about being away from home he should be fine. It seems as if it's a great social experience and staff are good at the pastoral aspects. Dd only knew one person on the course and shared a room with 3 other girls and came back telling us of the things they got up to. It was clear that everyone had a very strong interest in music.

PopcornPizza · 24/10/2013 23:11

DS enjoyed his audition earlier this week and came home buzzing from the experience. However he is a bit daunted by the thought of a residential course without knowing anyone...will cross that bridge as and when needed. Good luck all!

maggiethecat · 16/10/2013 22:24

Dd had hers today - she was not happy with her sightreading. Think she took it for granted since last year was a breeze for her but she perhaps overlooked fact that it's a higher lever orchestra (under 11's) this year.
Now that I think of it, the performance by the Under 11's at the gala concert this year was stunning for children of their age.
I've told her that she has done good work and she can be pleased with that.

GampyWabbit · 15/10/2013 23:30

Me too Maggie Grin. I am mighty proud of her, whatever the outcome of this audition Smile

Gampy, not sure - she may be under 11 then.
Love La Folia, beautiful piece - best wishes to your dd.

noteventhebestdrummer · 15/10/2013 20:54

A long time ago, yes! I have 5 sons who played violin with NCO but these days they are all grown up, youngest is 16 now, plays violin with Hallé Youth as well as doing other musical things.
