I stay in Guildford and I have been looking for people to start jogging with.I am an absolute non runner and I find all the running clubs even begginers are a bit fast.Is there any club that really caters to non runners.I think I finish 5km in an hour at my best.I would really like to improve and I think its fun done with someone else.

Are you meaning you're currently walking 5k in an hour and want to start trying to run/jog? Have you tried couch to 5k? Parkrun would work for you. People walk it in anything between 50 minutes and just over an hour. Check the results for the ones local to you as some are quite quick so you'd be the last one out there for a while but others are more inclusive to slower people.

I think the social aspect of a running club is different to just going along to a parkrun and hoping you can meet people to chat with or doing C25K by yourself.

Could you ask at the running clubs you know of if they know any clubs or groups that would be better suited to you?

Couch to 5K is good. Nice and slow is a good way to start, and once you get used to running the distance, you could concentrate on increasing speed.

I just want to be healthy and at least so 5km in 30min some day

Sounds good to me.

Have you tried the Couch to 5k App? That was the basis for the beginners' running club that I joined.

My first Parkrun time was 54 minutes, 24 seconds. I'm 66. Hadn't attempted to run for fitness for 40 years.

Everyone at Parkrun was very encouraging.

You can walk parkrun. 5k in a hour is fine.

Parkrun is a good shout. Although as a formerly serious runner, my first thought was why you want to start? I still enjoy running but I don't think it has done me much good, especially long runs.

MiddleAgedDread · 21/10/2026 17:00

parkrun is a good shout, you can run or walk but if it takes you an hour you can expect to be one of the last to finish.

How about going to the local parkrun? You’ll likely find someone else a similar pace there
