100 miler done 💪 quite a high drop out rate, out of 560 starters I believe 146 dropped out.

I really enjoyed it. It was hard. Took me 36 ISH hours, I think, I need to double check. My aim was to get my fastest marathon, 50k and 100k and I achieved all 3, then I walked the rest.

I had a blip around the 70 mile mark, I was falling asleep as I was walking and then the nausea id been experiencing for a few hours before turned into proper sickness, honestly if you made me choose id have quit there and then. Thankfully my husband knows me too well, so came with the van and made me sleep for a few hours, when I woke up, the sickness was gone and I could go on.

Such a fab event, lots of grumbles from people about the terrain and route but that's why I enjoyed it, kept it interesting.

Resting now (kind of, I've walked 5 miles today to the station to get home 🤣)

@BogRollBOGOF hope the osteopath visit went well and you are back running soon, I'm going to struggle this week keeping off my feet.

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato oh exciting re the marathon, I have my first ever marathon at the end of September and I thought 8 weeks training (after my self enforced rest week) was pushing it! And well done on the parkrun super speedy.

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree glad your getting out without too many I'll effects, well done.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/07/2026 10:55

Well done @tinks3110 and @Whataninterestinglookingpotato . I'm gearing up to go out for a short run. DH just got back from his and is gently encouraging me out of the door Smile

I've had a pretty good week - 4 short runs, a longish open water swim, a few miles on my bike and plenty of home yoga without too many ill effects. Hoping to be signed off by the physio when I see her tomorrow.

@BogRollBOGOF hope you have a good visit with the osteopath.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 25/07/2026 22:26

That’s so frustrating @BogRollBOGOF i hate being injured as I too need to burn off energy to function!

Well done on your 10k @tinks3110 not everyone will be the best but they’re all valuable.

I have been on a bit of a speed mission this week. As I’ve probably said before a fast 5k is not my favourite run but I have had two 5k PBs this week. One on Wednesday morning on a random run and now at parkrun today! Went to a new course which was pretty flat and manger 21:23 official time. Third female and first in my category. So not bad.

I have also, slightly stupidly signed up to a marathon on the 16th August that I don’t really have time to train for, just because it was free and we are doing a challenge at work to see which team can do the most miles in August. My manger is very competitive. I blame her!! 😂😂

tinks3110 · 25/07/2026 15:59

Oh @BogRollBOGOF I feel
your pain, it’s terrible when you’ve been injured and just coming back. I raced a 10k Thursday evening, wasn’t my best but felt good to get back out there. 6.5 mile easy run tomorrow starting to build up the miles for my marathon. 12 weeks to go 😳🙈

BogRollBOGOF · 25/07/2026 15:19

I'm grumpy.
Went to parkrun with the aim of repeating my strategy of walking lap1, and jeffing lap2, but mostly walked as my hip was hurting. Some of it was the actual injury which was annoying, but other niggles are creeping in from reduced movement too.

I hate not being able go and burn energy off. I need to move to sleep!

Osteopath on Monday...

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 19/07/2026 15:37

Well done all on your running, races hope all niggles heal quickly.

went out this morning with the trail gang. 5 over us in total with an early start. One guy fell and hurt his knee quite badly (falling seems to be a bit of a theme for people at the moment!) and so he called it a day at a half as we had looped back to the cars. The rest of us were going to get 20 miles in but we got back to the cars at just over 19 and decided that was enough and went to the pub!

lovely morning and beautiful if hilly route.

night sign up for a marathon mid August. Still undecided. We shall see.

happy running all.

xsquared · 19/07/2026 15:28

Had a race on Thursday evening, and came 8th in my age category. Though I was 7 seconds slower than last year at the same race, I'm pleased given that I nearly didn't go.

Didn't go to parkrun yesterday, so just did. 5 mile loop.
Now debating whether to go for a short easy run.

tinks3110 · 19/07/2026 14:49

I have only just recovered from my hybrid race last week, my legs were in bits 😂 anyway no rest for the wicked so started marathon training this week. 5 miles steady today, legs feel like I’ve done 50! Questioning how I’m going to make 26.2

BogRollBOGOF · 19/07/2026 14:15

July is often a bit of a natural lull for running with the heat and quiet time in the race season.

I'm itchy to finish term time so I can go out and play 😂

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 19/07/2026 12:24

Hello runners. I’ve been on a bit of a break lately with nothing more than parkrun and/or a club jeffing session. I’ve been recovering from a torn rotator cuff, so no swimming and only limited yoga (my 2 other favourite forms of exercise). I’ve been trying to get out on my bike, even if it’s just a couple of miles to run errands, and have been doing lots of walking.

I did 30/30 run walking for 4 miles today - my furthest in ages. It was hard work, but I am glad to be back at it. DH has booked us a HM in October so I have made myself a plan. The HM training segues nicely into next Spring’s marathon training and should keep me going through the winter.

Hope your ultra goes well @SFRSmum, and keep sticking to your recovery plan @BogRollBOGOF. @Whataninterestinglookingpotato your walks sound lovely.

BogRollBOGOF · 18/07/2026 17:16

I love a bit of aqua aerobics, it's a great laugh.

No running for me today. I accidentally booked my sports massage overlapping with parkrun, but my body needed the massage much more!
I slightly over-did my weights class earlier in the week (was still trying to be careful) and totally failed to resist the staff relay the following day at sports day, and it was a bit much for my grumpy glute.

I'm getting to that dangerous stage of generally not feeling injured and forgetting until I do something daft. I've got the osteopath in about 10 days so can get a better evaluation of what to do then.

SFRSmum · 18/07/2026 15:27

We've been away to a Greek Island. So not much running was done, I did a couple of 30 mins outdoor runs, early morning and even then it was hot!
I also did a couple of treadmill runs (a 5k and a 7k I think) but my weekly milage was half what it usually.

Normal ISH week this week, 10k race yesterday, which was really good, it was trail and a bit hilly, so no pb but under 55mins which I'm happy with
Park run today, didn't push too hard but still got my 3rd best time this year

100 miler is next weekend (Rat Race Edinburgh to Glamis if anyone is interested) so Im going to have a really chilled week this week. Went a little crazy and ordered new poles and backpack last night, I know nothing new before race day but the poles I had were too heavy, new ones a super light I'm really happy with them and my backpack I feel I need a proper waist strap to distribute weight better. On the 70 miler my shoulders caused me pain from about 40 miles in which I'm hoping to avoid this time

Oh, on holiday, I was a good little AI guest and joined in with all the exercise activities (yes, even aqua aerobics 🤣) but that meant I was doing 30 mins every day of either yoga/pilates/stretching and mobility, and I'm prob 2 weeks from starting that and can really feel the difference.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 14/07/2026 17:30

Glad you managed to get out today @BogRollBOGOF

i did a little 3.5 mile run yesterday before heading off to the Wye Valley with DH for the night. We did a lot of walking and walked the greenway between Tintern and Chepstow today, and yesterday we walked to then old station. It was lovely. It’s actually most of the out and back Wye Valley marathon route with relish running which is on next weekend. I have a free race to book with relish but I think I’ll leave that for next year as I’m not sure I want to run a marathon that’s a fair old drive away next weekend. Definitely one for the future though!

I’ll probably head to club tonight as dd1 is home and she wants to, I’m a bit tired after my busy weekend but I’m sure I’ll be ok once I get going.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/07/2026 17:19

I set my first early o'clock alarm in yonks this morning. I went out for just 15 mins with 10 mins brisk walk and 5 mins of jeffing. I just wanted to move without doing myself a mischief.

I felt my glute a bit while doing the warm-up walk but not during the run which is positive.

When I had achilles issues a few years back I built up with micro runs. At least this time I've not accidentally pushed into inhibiting normal movement to recover from.

My other running win for the weekend has been filling my running journal. I hadn't updated it since early April!

At least being injured there's only been a few runs in the last few weeks. Silver linings and all that Wink

With having trained for a HM in June and having a run of busy weekends all term, it's actually been nice not having guilt about not running in the heat and just catching up on the journal.

OP posts:
BogRollBOGOF · 12/07/2026 21:40

Parkrun was plenty for me this weekend.
Still in taking it gently mode, and I didn't feel my injury niggle while running. Ironically, I'm more likely to notice it after prolonged sitting!

Hopefully I can phase in a few more short, gentle jeffs soon to start building up.

A bit of parkrun tourism for me this weekend. A group of us camped for a running club friends birthday and we all took part in a coastal parkrun yesterday morning which is meant to be one of the hardest in the U.K.

it was really tough! Running on loose sand is not for the weak! 😂😂 came in 4th female and 1st in my category. We then had a lovely day on the beach. Great weekend had by all.

happy running folks.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 12/07/2026 14:56

Well done @tinks3110 sounds tough, especially in this heat, but you smashed it!

tinks3110 · 11/07/2026 20:25

It was awful, I’d never be choosing to run at 13.40 in this heat. But proud of myself for the exercise stations

xsquared · 11/07/2026 20:23

tinks3110 · 11/07/2026 19:26

Well today in 30 degree heat I did wild hybrid. The runs were horrific but I quite liked the work stations.
finished solid unscaled in 1:36:38

Well done Tinks. Sounds strenuous but you smashed it.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2026 20:05

Just parkrun for me in the past week. Obviously parkruns and HMs are exempt from running bans aren't they? 😈

In my defence, I repeated last Saturday's strategy of walking lap 1 and Jeffing lap 2 30:30, so it's not even one mile of actual running so it hardly counts at all really Wink

I can't cope with not running, plus cycling is off too so I do need to let some steam off to be able to sleep at night.

I'm not getting too much bother post-HM. The glute was actually worse for the day I got to sit down for two hours at work, although my knee (not the original problem) was glad of the rest.

I'll do this week as another rest week and start phasing in a bit if niggles remain calm.

SFRSmum · 05/07/2026 12:40

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato well done! Super time and to come 7th female with the stops is impressive! Fantastic running!

I've had a bit of a foot off the pedal week, I'm not sure what's wrong. I'm exhausted, not particularly run wise, just burnt out I think
I've managed a gentle 10 miles, park run and a social run today which actually I did enjoy once I was out
Off on holiday tomorrow for a week, I really must pack! Only planning on doing short easy sub 5k runs when I'm away. Once I'm back it's 10 days until the 100 miler so I'll be taking things easy from now on.

Happy running everyone 😁

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 05/07/2026 08:17

Well done on your half marathon @BogRollBOGOF

yesterday I did my first 50k ultra. The start didn’t go according to plan at all as we started way too far back and had to go really slowly behind people for probably nearly 2 miles. This led to the youngest lad in our group getting a bit impatient and going on too fast ahead of us, meaning we all probably got dragged on a bit too fast. Then another guy took a nasty tumble at about mile 8 and cut his head open. We helped him get to the next aid station which luckily was only about a mile away and waited while he was patched up. We stayed as a group for a while but then one of the other guys who has done the route several times before told me to run on and said he would stay with the injured guy until the end as he was struggling a bit that day anyway.

So I left them at about mile 12 and at about mile 19 caught the younger guy from our group up. He said he was done in and was going to slow down (which is classic for him and I will give him some stick about it 😂, all just friendly banter). So I carried on feeling pretty good to be honest. Made fairly good time despite the massive hills, chatted to lots of people along the way and made a friend for the last few miles, she was really quick but kept getting lost and so ended up behind. My navigation was actually working really well on my watch (I was super worried about getting lost) so we decided to just stick together. The last few miles were mainly downhill but quite technical in parts through over grown woods and rocky paths. Then you come out into the town and it was a lovely down hill to the sea. In the end I came in 7th female in a time of 5:33. Very happy with that and I enjoyed it so much (apart from my friends injury) that I have signed up for next year already.

i dunked myself in the sea and then we all sat around on the sea front cheering the rest of our club members in with a nice cold beer. It was a lovely day.

happy running all.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/07/2026 21:28

Finally my post-HM aches are easing off! Considering I jeffed 30:30, I'm surprised how much it took out of me. I wonder whether the heat of the last week was taking its toll. I was only two minutes behind my colleague who ran it all Grin

I'm glad I've got that behind me now. I enjoyed doing it, but there's now no pressure on race fitness so I can recover and deal with my niggles. I think a back to basics phase is needed.
