hmm this feels like a bit of a one woman show so I'll bow out!

WearyAuldWumman · 22/10/2026 09:57

I aim to start working out again from Monday...

Comtesse · 22/10/2026 10:11

Been a tough week. 20m mins mobility exercises and stretching. Still going on my exercise streak but thought about staying on the sofa last night!

BezMills · 22/10/2026 11:05

Not much to report. Did the Cardio Combat class on Tuesday and was pulled up the front to coach one of the moves and then got roped in to doing the last track alongside the instructor. It's all good practice. I'm slightly nervous about teaching exercise to music again (it's so difficult) but I think I'll feel OK once I've done a bit. Hopefully I can get the go-ahead to teach like 10 minutes at the end of the class, soon.

I've had DD9 all week (school hols and wife is working) so no chance for the gym. But I should be able to get in tomorrow. The weekend is a write off (solo parenting) but I'll have plenty time the following week as DW isn't working and DMiL will be here too.

Nooo, come back Iamblossom !! I like reading what others are doing, even if I'm not achieving what I'd like to.
Returned to pilates last night after a break all over summer. Big mistake after 7 years of religious attendance.
Turned out I'm not disciplined enough to do it at home as planned😳
The deterioration in my flexibility and core strength was embarrassing to say the least. Worse than when I first started.
Hopefully the shame will get me practicing between classes 😂
161.

No real exercise, but took a brisk walk to a friend's house, had a cuppa and then a brisk walk back home.

Chest is still intermittently wheezy, though I'm supposed to be well past the contagious stage. Occasionally panicking that it's going to stay like that and that dramatic arm across forehead I shall never do cardio again.

BezMills · Yesterday 06:14

Oft that sounds rough and I hope to hear about improvements soon!

Absolutely tipping it down here, and I'm going out for my weekly mental health walk at 7. I think it might be time for long troosers!

WearyAuldWumman · Yesterday 15:24

It's pelting down here.

I have run out to retrieve the bin from the bin men. Other than that, I've filled out a survey from Fife Leisure...It asked for my gender identity.

My reply included a reference to the fact that the refurbished shower facilities at Cowdenbeath have only a plastic shower curtain to cover people's modesty.

I did acknowledge that they have a unisex Changing Village at the pool, but pointed out that they're muddying the waters by asking whether the respondents have a gender identity - they can't plan facilities around identity. I can't get back to the survey to check the precise wording, but the third option was "non-binary" and then, I think "prefer not to say".

gets off soap box

7.6 mile walk - coastal. The rain held off.
I was then sitting in the car for 2,5 hours, so my hips had seized up when I got out. That's O/A for you 😬
162.
Hope you feel better soon WearyAuldWumman

Comtesse · Today 05:54

20 m yoga yesterday in a very very long day. Hope you are doing better soon @WearyAuldWumman cardio will still ve waiting!

BezMills · Today 09:33

I got in the gym yesterday and it wasn't looking good from the get-go. I finished warming up and there was someone on the bench I wanted, and then someone using the barbell I wanted. I was literally only wanting to use those two things. I sort of mooched around trying to not look weird while I waited on the first thing to be free. The lad lifting the barbell was lifting 132.5Kg which is already a big weight, but he was in his teens and probably 65Kg himself. Oh but his technique - the sort of thing you can clearly get away with when you're young - I would have snapped in half!

I got on the bench and worked my way up, did 1 on my previous 1 rep max and felt like I could get the next notch. Put another 5 on it and had a chap spot me (standing over ready to help if I get stuck under the bar). First rep was fine, second one wasn't moving so he had to help me get it racked. That's why I asked for a spot!

By this point someone had picked up the barbell and I was like god damn it. Then he puts it into the landmine thing, and just has like a 15 minutes chat with people round him while basically doing nothing. I was devastated - just wanted to do deadlift and I was getting blocked by a chatty kathy! I decided I could at least try out Romanian Deadlift with dumbells. Plenty of them, and I found a wee spot somewhere to try it out. I did like 4 sets of 10, working my way up to a decent weight where I did struggle to finish the 10. That seemed like the perfect time to stop and I was about to leave. And LO, the barbell guy had finished (turns out his actual exercise took about 5 minutes after 15 minutes pissing about not doing anything - and the thing he was doing he could have just done on a bloody cable row or something but I digress).

So I got on the barbell, (there's a TLDR about not finding the right plates but I'll spare you), thinking I've probably caned myself on the RDL and this won't go anywhere big. Maybe the RDL has really fired up the rear legs because I was finding the bigger weights just coming up nicely. So I did my top weight from last week, then put +5kg on and did that too. At that point I was well chuffed.

There were these teens on the bags just doing appalling boxing and I was for offering one of them a couple of tips and he was like 'I've been doing MMA for years so yeah'. I just said 'ah yeah then you'll know everything, good man'. Kind readers, he didn't know everything! I mean it's not like I know everything myself but yanno I do actually teach it. Conversely last time I was in, there was a woman hitting the bag and she was bloody brilliant. Footwork, angles, every punch in the book with either hand, I would have been asking her to teach me quite honestly! It was actually a brilliant backdrop as Anna and I were doing some lifting nearby, to hear someone absolutely murdering the punchbag. Love it.

This has been my TED talk on one trip to the gym.

It took less time to write than that guy took pissing about with the landmine attachment and chatting.
