Donned a knee support and met friend for a woodland walk - 7 miles and chuffed

Comtesse · 02/09/2026 07:50

Yesterday 20 min bedtime yoga.

Monday was more full on - 40 mins cardio plus 20 min yoga.

WearyAuldWumman · 01/09/2026 23:24

Monday - 45 minutes Zumba class. 131

Tuesday - 45 minutes Musical Theatre Fitness plus 30 minutes Simply Stretch. 132

WearyAuldWumman · 30/08/2026 15:15

Musical Theatre Fitness, 45 minutes.

I'm finding that the Sunday morning MTF classes don't feel that strenuous. Now, I'm not fooling myself - I know that the Cowdenbeath classes are a wee bit easier than those held in Glenrothes, because they're new to Cowdenbeath - however, even those would have been beyond me a while back.

On the one hand, I'm annoyed that my legs and puff aren't really enough for me to do well at running; on the other hand, this time three years ago I thought that I was on the road out, so I'm definitely doing better and I can definitely walk further and more quickly now at 66 than I could at 60.

I like the idea of these secret runners sneaking off to class!

Yesterday - 15 min cardio dance and 16min bedtime yoga. It was noticeable that I was very snappy / bad tempered before and then back to normal after the yoga. Classic right?

WearyAuldWumman · 28/08/2026 21:04

Today: Running Club. Three of us there today. (The other women can't manage mornings.) I'm the only one who's done it before and still the slowest. Turns out that one woman - who might be younger than I am - has done Parkruns etc before.

The other woman - possibly my age - also does Senior Flex, but definitely has better knees: she can do proper squats at SF (and without audible cracking noises).

I am not jealous. No sirree.

The other SF lady plans not to tell her family about running until after she's completed Parkrun.

45 minutes Senior Flex. 129

Usual swimming/ yoga/ classes stuff 116

stilldumdedumming · 28/08/2026 20:07

Blimey @Alittlefrustrated
I teach yoga and yoga nidrā so similar to gong in some ways. Why on earth wasn’t the gong-er encouraging you into a comfortable position. Straight legs! I often go on my side because my blood pressure is low!

@WearyAuldWumman I am so impressed by your accordion playing.

note to self- stop moaning about our pool is dirty! I would be genuinely bereft if ours closed.

@BezMillssolidarity with keeping the black dog at bay. The only time it’s ok is at the gym.

Alittlefrustrated · 28/08/2026 18:33

Sooo.... Not the best week.
DOMS had greatly improved yesterday, so went for a swim 50 x 25m then did a virtual aqua class 45mins.
The class was really good in terms of the instructions etc but very fast in places, considering we were moving in deep water. I felt a twinge behind my left knee when twisting and kicking out to the side. Later that day it became very painful, but I had combined qigong and gong bath session booked, and paid for, so I went rather than waste twenty odd quid.
It was actually manageable in qigong, but very painful trying to lie with straight legs for the 60 mins gong.
Hobbled home - then developed horrendous stomach pains and diarrhoea in the night, which have just stopped. Not ideal whilst hobbling.
Apparently ginger tea, which was served last night, can have this unfortunate effect on some people.
You couldn't bloody make it up!
This summer has been a fitness fail for me 🙁

I think it’s expensive to keep the pools open and heated properly I reckon. It’s a real shame but LA budgets are under a lot of pressure.

Today a walking /boxing video, then some dancing and wall pressups. 31 mins in total.

WearyAuldWumman · 26/08/2026 23:05

Gym update. The report was an exaggeration: only one tile fell off the roof.

Today: brief warm up on the treadmill, followed by 3 sets of 10 at 19kg on the chest press.

45 minutes Senior Flex: weights for upper body; bands for lower; stretches, sit to stand with weight (only 3.7kg).

At Active for Life, only did 15 minutes on bike, followed by 3X3 side raises with 6k weights, followed by 3, 5, 10 biceps curls with same weights.

Headed off for first 20 minutes of new Running Club intake. Just there for the warm-up and stretches.

The latest scandal in Fife gym circles...

Cowdenbeath leisure centre was closed for refurbishment for two years. Reopened at the tail end of last year, I recall.

This year, they had to close the swimming pool because of a problem with the tiles. Over the weekend, it was reported that a bit of the roof had fallen in.

The gym is still open, but that's the pool closed again. People are not happy.

No formal exercise, but had my accordion lesson this evening.

Does taking it out of the car and along the school corridor count as a farmer's carry? Mind you, it's only about 11kg, but it felt heavier.

for sure it counts as a farmer's carry!

Had a nice big class on Monday at 11 people and made them feel like they got their money's worth (is how I describe making them suffer quite a bit and hopefully inflict some lovely DOMS on them the next day).

Tuesday is Combat day, and the class was looking really busy, which we love to see! I was feeling rather fool of jumping beans, which I'm very happy about. I've struggled a lot with low mood and energy in the last months (not 100% sure why) but I felt pretty great yesterday and went with it.

I've done a lot of things to drag myself out of the hole (in many cases by doing fewer things to lower standards ngl) and maybe it's all paying off now. Bladdy hope so, as I'm fully busy with the usual stuff of life, and can't afford to just run out of road and crash.

I meant to type 'full of jumping beans' above but the typo fits, so it sits!

Comtesse · 26/08/2026 07:56

Last night 25 min yoga and 5 mins dancing and some wall press ups.

Pump it up class (45 mins)
Couple of walks

12,500 steps

WearyAuldWumman · 25/08/2026 01:22

The counting, @stilldumdedumming ...I do that. Have done as long as I can remember, but inwardly.

Only when my mum was nearly 90 did I find out that she did the same.

stilldumdedumming · 24/08/2026 22:48

I don’t have a diagnosis (and don’t have anything that causes me any bother), but I count a lot. If something is physically difficult especially, I will count but also generally. Sometimes out loud which probably looks a bit odd. But my oddities are ones I can laugh at, rather than something hard to navigate.
I gave some yoga practice (mainly my daily cat/cow/gars type flow). And 60 x25m this morning.

I'm using the Couch to 5k app as an addition to the Running Club.

Went to the track at the Michael Woods. Did my 5 minute walking, 25 minutes running [really jogging, I guess] and 5 minute cool down. I managed nearly 6 circuits of the 400 metre track in the 25 minutes, so 2k 300 metres, maybe? I'm not getting any faster, it seems, but at least there was no walking in between.

45 minutes Pilates straight after. We used a ball. Managed not to let mine escape.

Had a ham and cheese toastie in the café and then a 45 minute Zumba class. 127

I'll have to cut my Tuesday classes back to every other week now - I have signed up for accordion lessons. (I played in my youth.)

I'm telling myself it's combining weight lifting and a one-sided pectoral fly. I might have to figure a way of evening that up.

Alittlefrustrated · 24/08/2026 20:41

My inflamed joints settled, like magic. Whatever causes them, it always goes like that - like a switch. Spent all day "heavy" gardening yesterday (140)and woke up with hamstring/glutes DOMS today .
In my wisdom I thought I would start the day "swimming it off" 🙄 Tonight I'm struggling to get off the sofa and lowering to the loo. What a nugget 🤣
40 x25m swim (so I was actually sensible) 141.
Just planning gentle walks and stretching tommorrow. Might do upper body work.

BezMills · 24/08/2026 16:45

That's a great milestone (almost exactly 5 miles) and a cracking good pace too. You must be well chuffed @MummyInTheNecropolis

Thank you @BezMillsand @WearyAuldWumman I usually run with a friend so we are chatting most of the way anyway!

I’ve just got back from a run and managed my longest one ever - 8km! It took me 53 minutes but I’m quite pleased with that!

8km? Brilliant!

6k run
8k walk
Bounce class (45 mins)

28,100 steps

I’ve never even thought about breathing during running, I mean obviously I breathe but just in whatever way comes naturally! I’ve never counted breaths or anything, I didn’t know I was supposed to! Does it help?

@MummyInTheNecropolis honestly if you're happy just running and breathing free then just keep on keeping on! There's no need to count breaths or sync up with your feet, unless you have a coach that tells you otherwise.

Some people just naturally count things and go deep into details - I've always been like that. It's how I eat my mince and totties and it's how I run and it's how I work and so on!

I sometimes envy people who somehow seem more chill and zen about everything (as in don't have systems and counting for every damn thing) but at the end of the day it's just my nature and I don't fight it anymore! My wife is the same and no surprise our DD is showing strong inclinations too!
