30 Day Shred

Anyone want to join me?
Yes I know it’s an oldie but I did it about 15 years ago and it was really effective.
I’ve just done day one and the weights and abs stuff weren’t too bad but the cardio nearly killed me, I’m more unfit than I realised.

Week 1 Day 4 of Ripped in 30 done.

Felt slightly easier today, perhaps because I had more calories yesterday than I did on Monday and Tuesday. Who knows. Enjoying a nice crunchy apple before summoning up the effort to go out and get wet with the dogs!

OublietteBravo · 07/01/2026 20:44

30DS L1D4. Apparently I ache in different places after yesterday’s run!

IDareSay · 07/01/2026 12:44

Wow @OublietteBravo that’s dedication!

Week 1 Day 3 of Ripped in 30 done.

Tough again today, I feel physically tired. Think it may be because I have burned up my glycogen stores now and I’m eating fairly low carb. Hopefully I will pick up later in the week as my body gets used to burning fat stores again.

OublietteBravo · 06/01/2026 19:06

I did 30DS L1D3 yesterday. No Jillian today, as I went out with the running group at work. I must be mad! 3.8 miles in the snow, and then back to a changing room with no heating and icy cold showers!

IDareSay · 06/01/2026 12:55

Week 1 Day 2 of Ripped in 30 done.

Felt tougher today, maybe because I am no longer fuelled by cake 🙄

IDareSay · 05/01/2026 11:27

Week 1 Day 1 of Ripped in 30 done.

It’s the same format as 30 DS so very familiar, and only 20 minutes, made up of 3 sessions of 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio and 1 minute abs with a warm up to start and cool down to finish. Nothing complicated. Felt like a (fairly) gentle way to ease back in! Compared to Body Revolution anyway 😂

Hair stayed up through the butt kicks @Saggyoldclothbody thanks to a very deep headband as well as a ponytail 😀

Reluctant exercise is always more of an achievement @OublietteBravo Mine was certainly in that category today but I know I will feel better for it by the end of the week. 💪

OublietteBravo · 04/01/2026 19:17

I also did a somewhat reluctant 30DS L1D2. I’m glad I made myself do it.

Saggyoldclothbody · 04/01/2026 11:34

L1D2 30DS done ✔️ In spite of my muscles aching like mad but DP is coming down with a cold so, if I succumb, I might not feel like it during the week.

@IDareSayI can’t bear my hair down when exercising - and realised today it’s the butt kicks that have the right action to loosen the ponytail 😊

IDareSay · 03/01/2026 10:00

"only stopped when my hair fell down” that proper made me laugh @Saggyoldclothbody as it’s the kind of thing that happens to me too 😅

Good to see you @OublietteBravo

I’m starting back Monday with Jillian's ‘Ripped in 30’ which is very similar to 30 Day Shred and should ease me gently into 2026…ha!

OublietteBravo · 03/01/2026 08:54

Hello 👋

I also restarted yesterday with 30DS L1D1.

Saggyoldclothbody · 02/01/2026 12:25

Hello and a happy new year to you Shredders 👋

I have returned! 3 weeks holiday in September, followed by a 3 month dieting club from the local council that gave you free access to the gym, and now I’m back.

Although I intended to make use of the free swimming, I never got there in the end, however, I made good use of the gym and the Tanita Body Composition scales until the end of November when I was struck down with flu. Christmas has been an alarming round of eating and drinking so I decided I had to start again today. Therefore:

L1D1 of 30DS complete with most moves done at Natalie level (only stopped when my hair fell down and I upped weights at one point). I’m most likely going to go back to every other day exercising but you never know with resolutions… 😀

Happyhettie · 26/12/2025 12:32

Thanks @IDareSay ! Hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas Day!

Boxing Day 30DS completed and 10 mins of yoga. Not sure about yoga but I’m very inflexible so need to do something.

IDareSay · 24/12/2025 15:58

9 out of 10 is amazing at this time of year @Happyhettie !
Have a fantastic break and see you in the new year 🥳

Happyhettie · 24/12/2025 15:28

That’s brilliant - thanks @IDareSay will have a proper look at the Jillian app and make a post Christmas Day plan. I think it is just us at the moment but hope everyone else is ok too. I have found this thread such a support. I need to be held to account 😂

Managed to get 9 days in, not quite the 10 but better than nowt!

Hope you have a very lovely Christmas xx

IDareSay · 22/12/2025 18:11

I started my first 30 Day Shred on 14th July and did my measurements that day. I am now 2 x 30 Day Shreds and a 90 day Body Revolution in the bank, so a good time to compare.

My weight loss since 14th July is around 4kg (so just over half a stone, not loads), and I have been intermittent fasting and calorie counting to achieve that, along with the exercise.

Underarm -4cm (to monitor underarm and back fat)
Full bust -2cm
Underbust -5cm
Waist -4cm
Belly button -11cm
Hips -4cm
Thigh R -3cm
Thigh L -2cm (my thighs have always been slightly uneven)
Arm R -4cm
Arm L -4cm

Of course these are all approximate as it depends how tight the tape is and I can make my waist 2cm smaller by pulling in my tummy! My waist is now bang on half my height (and would be less that half my height if I hadn't recently discovered I have shrunk by about 3cm!)
Hip to waist ratio is 0.82, which is ok.

I'm especially pleased with the reduction in my belly measurement, as I feel like I was carrying a lot of my weight there. Next year I want to reduce my hip to weight ratio, my waist measurement, and my body fat (currently 29.1% which is a big improvement from 32.1% in July but needs to be lower).
Current BMI is 23.7, so well in the healthy range but I would like to be somewhere in the 21s, so another 5kg or so to lose but want to build muscle on the way.

I think it is just you and I at the moment @Happyhettie but hopefully a few others will join us in the new year.

The website I found was this one: https://2lazy4gym.com/about/
Loads of reviews of home workouts, both free and available on DVD/apps etc. I have found it really useful in terms of what might work for me if I ever get over my Jillian addiction...

About

I started this blog in April 2012 because I have 100s of workout DVDs and the collection just keeps growing. There are currently 2000+ work out reviews on this blog—and I still have tons of workout…

That’s amazing! Very, very well done!

Day 81 done Saturday (strength session 11) 81/84
Day 82 done Sunday (strength session 12) 82/84
Day 83 done this morning (cardio session 3) 83/84 and a rest day tomorrow completes the Body Revolution programme 84/84!

I'll be doing my usual dog walks and fit in a few mini 5 minute workouts over the festive break, but otherwise that is me done until January. I will peruse some workouts on the app from the comfort of my sofa with a glass of fizz and some chocolates knowing I really have earned them this year! 🍾

By the way, I found a really useful workout review website, I'll post the link later but I must now go and do some measurements before I forget...

30 Day Shred
Happyhettie · 20/12/2025 11:17

I’m on day 6 today! Achy but alive. That’s the best we’re going to get at the end of term 😂

Very well done on the lowest weight this year @IDareSay you’ve worked so hard on this!

IDareSay · 19/12/2025 11:30

Halfway through week 12 and just 3 workouts to go!

Day 78 done Wednesday (strength session 11) 78/84
Day 79 done yesterday (strength session 12) 79/84
Day 80 done this morning (cardio session 3) 80/84

Just one more of each to go and my 90 (83) day shred is done 💪

That's also my final Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday exercise sessions, until after Christmas 🎄

Hit my lowest weight of the year this morning, just in time to fatten myself up like a Christmas turkey 😂

Hope you have hit the halfway point today @Happyhettie

Happyhettie · 17/12/2025 21:43

That’s really useful @IDareSay thanks for sharing. I agree - definitely a pj work out 😆
How rude of your scale app though!!

I’m achy today but day 3/10 is completed

IDareSay · 16/12/2025 12:26

Brilliant @Happyhettie the 10 days will fly by 💪

My Apple health stats all look good, although my weighing scale app says I am still 'slightly fat' HmmGrin

I haven't yet decided what programme to do next, there are a lot to choose from, but I'll properly think about it after Christmas. I do think it will do me good to have a break.
I have had an email from Jillian this morning with a suggestion of a 5 minute 'quick hit' to do over the holidays so I'm going to try and do that every morning at least. Can be done in pyjamas I reckon 😄

30 Day Shred
Happyhettie · 16/12/2025 12:14

🥳 woohoo! 🥳 well done @IDareSay Week 11 is an amazing achievement.

Have you got a plan for what comes next after week12?

That’s so good you can feel a real difference. It must be doing your heart so much good if you’re not stopping as frequently and it totally makes sense about moving through the world more easily.

This morning before work I have completed L1 D2. My muscles were aching from yesterday but not as bad as I thought it would be so I’ve obviously kept a bit of the fitness I’d built up.
2/10 days done!

IDareSay · 16/12/2025 12:02

Day 75 done yesterday (strength session 12) 75/84
Day 76 done this morning (cardio session 3) 76/84
Day 77 a rest day tomorrow, which I will not take 77/84
That's my final Tuesday session, no more Tuesdays until after Christmas 🎄

That's week 11 complete, one week to go!

I have noticed a big difference in my fitness @Happyhettie it really shows when I am walking up steep hills, I don't have to stop for a breather half as often. I'm generally just more comfortable moving through the world if that makes sense.

Cheering you on with your 10 day plan; routine really is the key for me and also the fact that I can eat more if I burn some calories with Jillian Grin

Happyhettie · 15/12/2025 16:50

Amazing! 🤩 7 sessions to go now!

Getting in to a routine like that definitely helps. It’s over and done with early as well which means you’ve got the rest of the day.
Have you noticed a big difference in your fitness levels? Brilliant you’ve no injuries as well.

I’m back on the shred today. Day 1 Level 1 completed. I can get 10 days in before Christmas if I do it every day.

I don’t really have a good reason not to other than I have fallen off the bandwagon. I’ve missed it the last couple of weekends and thought about it but I don’t know why I haven’t actually done it. It’s got to bed time each night and I regret not having done it.

So I’ve given myself a good talking to today and I’m starting again. It’s a Monday so that seems a sensible day to start. Just going to have to bite the bullet and do it after work.

This is the last week of term so the holidays will be easy enough and then in the new year I’m going to decide on which days I can fit it in (around meetings / marking etc) and make it part of my routine.
Other people manage it so I can to.

IDareSay · 14/12/2025 11:39

We think rock and roll squats are bad? I raise you Wheel Push Ups!

Thanks @Happyhettie I really don't know how I have managed to keep going, I think I have just got into the habit now. I miss it if I have to miss a session for some reason. Somehow Jillian's workouts have just clicked for me.

It is of course a massive help that I am now retired and get dressed into my workout clothes as soon as I get up. Couple of coffees and off I go; Jillian/shower/brunch/dog walk is my daily routine.

I'm feeling pretty good, no injuries (touch wood) just my normal creaky hip which does limit my flexibility but I do the exercises to my best ability. Even Jillian isn't as flexible as some of the women in the class!

Day 70 a rest day, which I did not take 70/84
Day 71 done Thursday (first new strength session 11) 71/84
Day 72 done Friday (first new strength session 12) 72/84
Day 73 done yesterday (cardio session 3) 73/84
Day 74 done this morning (strength session 11) 74/84

I'm near the end of the penultimate week now, just 8 sessions to go... 😱
