30 Day Shred

Anyone want to join me?
Yes I know it’s an oldie but I did it about 15 years ago and it was really effective.
I’ve just done day one and the weights and abs stuff weren’t too bad but the cardio nearly killed me, I’m more unfit than I realised.

You’ve all totally influenced me.

I had the DVD back in the day and never got beyond L1. I’m actually much fitter now than I was then so fingers crossed I can make it.

Im going to purchase on Amazon Prime and have go today - but start my official 30 days on the 1st September!

Fundays12 · 20/08/2025 20:53

L2 day 3 done. Its a tough one and I was aching last night.

Iheartmysmart · 20/08/2025 13:28

Probably more of a trickle than a whoosh @IDareSay but I’m happy with that. About 6lbs gone since the start and, considering I wasn’t particularly strict with my diet, that seems like a good result. I agree, it’s a great feeling once the 30 days are complete.

I’ll be joining you back on the shred on Monday 😊 Let me know how the ‘new’ method goes!

Level 2 was just the worst @Happyhettie apart from the skaters. L3 is much nicer.

I didn’t do the rockstar jumps out of respect for my downstairs neighbour 😆

IDareSay · 20/08/2025 12:52

Any whooshing yet @Iheartmysmart ? It's a great feeling to complete it isn't it?

3kg weights is brilliant @Fundays12 ! Hope level 2 is treating you well.

I'll go and dig out my kettlebells I think @CortadoPlease Only 3 sessions to go? As JM would say, amazing 👏

Great job @TheHorrorsPersist hope back to school goes smoothly.

Well done on getting to the end of L2 @Happyhettie Can't say it was my favourite. But then again whichever level I am on is not my favourite 😁
Last Wednesday for you! Looking forward to when I can say that again!

You must be near the end now @Saggyoldclothbody and yes rockstar jumps are evil. Maybe I could hold a guitar for inspiration 😎

I found it quite scary that I found I was enjoying it too @feckinbanjaxed and starting slow and listening to your body is obviously better than not starting at all.

Understand what you mean @User456778976546 especially about not wanting to start and then not carrying on. Hope you do stay with us though, this is a great little corner of Mumsnet.

Really good to be back and get that first day over with. Felt great by the third circuit but one and two were hard work!
Round 2, L1 D1 done.
Hope nobody minds if I check in every day, it kept me motivated last time.

CortadoPlease · 20/08/2025 11:04

L3 D7 done. Three to go! I like L3 - it seems to go by pretty fast.

IDareSay · 20/08/2025 09:38

Good morning shredders!
I am back from my Olympic scone eating training and bizarrely looking forward to another round of Jillian 😳 It was good to see family and friends but I'm all peopled out now so glad to be back to some peace and quiet.

I shall do the @Iheartmysmart programme of D1,2, and 3 then back to D1 etc. and see how that goes.

I'm in my kit so just building up to actually doing it; much cooler here than before we went away so that will help.
Not weighing as I had a lot of salty crisps yesterday and all my rings are tight so I'm clearly retaining fluid. I'll wait until Friday so I have 2 days of sensible eating under my belt.

ETA I will catch up with what you have all been up to once D1 is done.

Happyhettie · 20/08/2025 09:06

Level 3 Day 4 done! This is the last Wednesday of round 1 of the 30DS. Woohoo! 🥳

I’m embarrassed about exercising in front of my DH as well. I go bright red, look like a beetroot and quite honestly no one deserves to see the flab wobbling as it does in its current state. He is lovely and supportive and it’s definitely not him, it’s me.

When we first lived together I didn’t mind exercising in front of him and I went to the gym a lot but I stopped that when we moved and that’s a long time ago now. I’ve put on a lot of weight since then and I’m embarrassed about how I look. Again, it’s a me problem not him.

Happy to answer!

There aren't many things I feel embarrassed about where he's concerned, but for some reason this does bother me. If I talked to him about it, he'd tell me not to be silly and that he won't mention it. But I'd know he knows. 😁

Perhaps it's also that I know he'd be very aware of whether or not I've done it. I can't start it, see if I can face it and stop if I can't without knowing that someone else knows. I don't know why this bothers me so much.

It's not that he'd be able to see me, he'd just hear me jumping around for 20 mins. It's not like he's the body beautiful either. He could do with joining in with me, and he definitely would be proud of me for it.

It's not a him problem, definitely a me problem. 😳😀

I actually understand what your saying here and its definitely not my husband its me. Have you got a little private area you can work out in your garden? Maybe get a dvd player and use that?

Can I ask why you feel embarrassed about your husband seeing or hearing you? I’ve read this a few times from different people and wonder why, it’s your best friend who you have sex with and has seen you at all kinds of angles 🤣 plus he should be proud of you and what you’re doing.

Brilliant! 🤩
Yes when I first did it I lost a few lbs after the first few days as think I shocked my body with the rare exercise haha. After a few weeks of workouts I weighed again and I’d put on 7lbs! But was working so hard.. I thought what a waste of time. So I read about it and asked for advice and learnt that the muscles store water while they are repairing, and that’s all over your body. Plus muscles growing and adding weight. Plus your blood increases in volume too.
After a few weeks all effects disappear and you are left with the more defined shape and weight loss ♥️

I hope that happens. Its so defeating to see gains on the scales so I am going to stay off them for a while.

Fundays12 · 19/08/2025 21:56

L2 day 2 completed. Lol I better be looking toned soon given how many burpees are in it.

Disturbia81 · 19/08/2025 15:21

Happyhettie · 19/08/2025 11:40

Level 3 day 3 completed. I definitely phoned it in this morning but I still did it.
I stupidly didn’t measure myself before I started but I know some of my clothes fit me better. And I am starting to see my collarbones again. Arse is still fat though. 😆

@User456778976546 WFH is a real pain. My DH is the same. So much easier when he had to go to the office!

Your arse will reshape, give it time 🍑 My arse always goes flat as I lose weight but now it’s got smaller but curvier. I love you Jillian 😂

Disturbia81 · 19/08/2025 15:20

User456778976546 · 19/08/2025 08:14

I did this 11 years ago and it was horrible but effective! I lost inches really quickly but it was so painful to start off with. It also played havoc with my knees and wrists. My pelvic floor couldn’t cope with the jumping about.

Having said this, I really want to start again as it actually worked and I felt amazing once I’d stopped aching and could sit down without groaning.

The problem this time is that the only place I can do it is our bedroom as there’s not enough space anywhere else. My husband now WFH in the room underneath and I’ll feel so embarrassed about him hearing me jumping around. I need to get over this!

I am so glad you told me this. I jumped on the scales this morning and have put on 2 pounds so could have cried then I remembered you advice and went to measure myself. I have lost 6 inches so far and am only on day 12. I have cut back massively on junk etc to but I am hoping to see it on the scales in a few weeks.

Awesome! If you weigh in after finishing then don’t be disappointed, just give your body chance to get rid of the water retention from repairing the muscles and you’ll see better results of all your hard work, like I say mine comes after a few weeks. I let my weight stabilise at the lower weight and then do another round. You’ll smash it ♥️

Well after being so hungover yesterday and missing a day (the first time) I decided today to make it up. I did burn fat boost your metabolism this morning which I actually really like but its tough and then L2 day 1 today. I dont hate L2 but its certainly not as good as L1.

Fundays12 · 18/08/2025 21:10

IDareSay · 13/08/2025 09:35

L3 D10 done, I did it!! 💥

30 day shred complete Star

Forgot to steal my fan back so I am just a big pool of melted human now 😂

That's me taking at least a week off now, including a few days away. If anyone wonders if they can do this, I'm in my 60's, overweight, dodgy right shoulder, knackered left knee, one hip replaced and the other one due and I managed it, even getting up to Natalie's level for over half of it.

I'll measure tomorrow but I can see and feel the difference in my shape and my stamina.

Amazing well done.

Saggyoldclothbody · 18/08/2025 17:59

L3D4 complete. I am never going to manage rockstar jumps…

Fundays12 · 18/08/2025 13:42

I decided to do burn fat boost metabolism today as I was pretty hungover tomorrow so didn't manage to workout. I may start l2 shred tonight if I am up to it. Burn fat boost metabolism tends to get the weight of me fast

Iheartmysmart · 18/08/2025 13:21

Thanks @Happyhettie

I agree, and it’s the feeling of achievement once the workout is done. Think I will aim for a 30 minute walk each day this week then start shredding again next Monday.

Happyhettie · 18/08/2025 13:02

That’s amazing @Iheartmysmart ! What a lovely feeling 😃
Missing the workouts is understandable, they’re hard going but you feel much better when you’ve done them.

Iheartmysmart · 18/08/2025 11:39

I had to put a pair of shorts in the charity bag yesterday as they were too big around the waist! Not quite fitting into the next size down yet but not far off.

Would it be terribly ridiculous of me to say I’m missing my workouts and might start again soon…
