No idea when it will start. Follow @ keithdunn on twitter as he's usually the only journo who attends.

Let's hope for another safe race. Maybe a woman can finish for the first time and hopefully there'll be a handful of Brits to cheer on. Although tbh, I'll cheer on anyone crazy enough to attempt it.

Yay - Jasmin's being trailed at the start of the news as one of the major stories!
(she does sound a bit hoarse!)

Sophie Raworth in her public/running twitter feed has said that BBC did have a segment about Jasmin ready to go on the Friday night news, but it got crowded out by the Princess of Wales video release and the attack in Moscow

BTW I've seen Sophie run as well, but not in such an alarming sounding race! I happened to be touristing at a parkrun and she was there as well.

GCircus · 24/03/2024 18:27

Sophie Rayworth absolutely the right choice to interview Jasmin! She is a formidable runner herself - the won the Women’s 40-50yo category the year I rode in the Man vs Horse race (a 24 mile fell race where horse riders compete against runners - a rather more balanced race than you might imagine, as the terrain is severe and the race is run in June, horses do not perform in heat as well as humans do over distance.) I didn’t notice the moment I overtook her as my horse was having a moment of enthusiasm (I had no brakes 😳) but Sophie played that moment on The One Show so I was able to find out later on where we were when we passed her. I take my hat off to anyone who competes in that race on foot too - the final hill was described to me before I took part as ‘Sicky Hill’ because many runners are sick with the exertion by this point in the race. Whilst there is considerable skill in getting a horse fit enough to compete, and to pilot them successfully, the runners are all superhuman. (In my opinion. 😁)

I only heard about this today and I am so invested. What a Woman! What a race! Well done to all the finishers. I'm gobsmacked that the human body can do that!

AuntieStella · 24/03/2024 16:00

Thanks for the heads up!

Hughs · 24/03/2024 15:41

Thank goodness for a newsreader who is interested in running 🙏

Taylormiffed · 24/03/2024 15:36

Jasmin will be on bbc news this evening. Sophie Raworth just tweeted it.

Haven't seen this shared on the thread - brief interview with her just after she finished https://www.instagram.com/reel/C426wrYLgeq/?igsh=azZtb3I1cHhsM2Zl I really feel motivated to go and book my own next adventure now!

Thank you so much for that. What a woman.

BBC have an updated article on their website

Jasmin Paris first woman to complete gruelling Barkley Marathons race - BBC News

Includes her text message to BBC News, and a comment from one of the official photographers - who was taking finishing line photos even though he had tears welling up because it was such an emotional moment. They've got one of his pix on this story, and you can see John and also Jared smiling. I really wish his 8 words was getting more attention!

I'm astonished thay shes doing any sort of media. I remember panicking after my first ultra that I wasn't able to even sit up to get out of bed - I just eventually rolled onto the floor! I was too tired and weak to call for help. Her effort would have been a zillion times mine. She needs time to rest quietly and heal

I don't think she is, apparently she regretted doing media stuff after the Spine as hadnt left enough time to recover. The piece last night was the footage of her sprinting to the yellow gate and the lovely Clive Myrie exclaiming 'blimey Jasmin'! Brilliant 😍

24 hours is no time at all after such an endurance feat: too soon for media interviews!

ArrestHer · 24/03/2024 08:56

It said she had being breathing so hard for so long she couldn’t talk. I imagine she’s damaged her throat. 😬

Hughs · 24/03/2024 08:43

I hope she's ok - is it normal not to be able to speak 24 hrs later? (Or is she just dodging the tv interview, would not blame her at all if so)

ArrestHer · 24/03/2024 08:41

Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g so pleased she made the main news. What an achievement.

(not making the news, the actual Barkley completion 🤣)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/03/2024 07:44

It's at the very end of the News from Saturday night. Very brief item, she doesn't speak as apparently she physically can't at the moment. Shock She did send a brief message though, which was read out. This link should work but only until this evening, if the website is to be believed.

I missed her! And can’t find a clip!

AuntieStella · 24/03/2024 07:31

I didn't watch the news last night, so I'll have to see if it's on iPlayer

I found a brief account of what happened to Damo on the INNOV-8 blog. He missed a book whilst it was still dark, and by the time he found it he knew he could not finish. But ran on to get a few more, and did a bit of other exploring to get to know the ground better (which I take as a hint that he wants to keep trying!) before heading back - reaching camp in time to see Jasmin finish.

INNOV-8 no longer sponsors Jasmin - her choice as she prefers not to have a sponsor. I wonder if that's ethical reasons?

Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight · 23/03/2024 22:35

Did y'all see her?! So proud of her ❤️🚬🏃🤸

Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight · 23/03/2024 22:14

She's about to be featured on BBC news at ten! She was in the first 3 headlines!!

Maybe we could reconvene in October for big's backyard ultra?

I’ll be up for that
