Come and tell me all your walking adventure plans for the New Year. No matter if you're just making it around the block, walking the pooch or doing the Camino de Santiago.

I'll be exploring the countryside around me and hopefully a further afield, getting a bit fitter and hoping to meet some other local walkers.

Great walk yesterday, the weather was lovely I actually took my coat off! We visited 2 churches, 1 coffee shop (a luxury in rural Norfolk) and a patch of wild garlic in the woods. On track with my 1,000 miles so far, hope to get ahead over the summer though.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/04/2023 23:58

Gorgeous weather today, DH is away so I just did the local canal towpath.

We've had a few good walks recently, a lovely one by the coast yesterday. And saw our first ducklings a few days ago.

477.8 km year to date.

midgemadgemodge · 20/03/2023 07:32

Daffodils were out highlight ! But at least it felt quite mild - 10 or more

ErrolTheDragon · 19/03/2023 23:44

Just 28 km last week. Lots of lambs, and woods anemones joining the spring flowers.

388.2 km so far this year

crosshatching · 19/03/2023 20:19

That's very sweet to see new lambs appearing 🐑🐑. 14km walk today through a lot of mud. I'm pretty tired now it's like running on sand. 44km in the last week, I can feel it stretching out a bit as spring arrives.

Got to see lots of new born lambs on our walk today. On the left you can just about see a massive sheep who's climbed into the centre of the feeding trough and is trampling everyone else's food.

52.7km last week, including some more sections of the canal - Thursday was the only day with weather too bad to walk, but we seem to be in a rainy spell now.

360.2 km so far.

ProfYaffle · 06/03/2023 16:48

Great walk yesterday. Our current tactic is to plan a route with a church 2/3rds of the way round and sit inside to have our biscuits and flask of coffee. It's true that this is confirmation of just how middle aged I am now but it's a welcome little rest!

crosshatching · 06/03/2023 10:58

Longest walk of the year so far this weekend at around 10 miles. Enjoyed it at the time but my bum and legs are still feeling it now!
It's been really interesting seeing how cold it's been in some parts than others locally. Basing this entirely on how uneven the appearance of daffodils is this year.
Still feels pretty cold but I can feel that spring surge and starting to plan a lot more walks as the weather improves. Could also do with some more kit to be honest.

Do not mention wild garlic.. someone planted some in my herb patch, insisting they were chive bulbs. They are not, and were described by the RHS as a thug plant. I am in my third year of digging the baatards out if my front border, autumn and spring. They spread. I won't be buying any compost from the Council.

Omg - you're so lucky! I drive to woods half an hour away to pick wild garlic. I tried planting some in my garden but it never took off.

midgemadgemodge · 27/02/2023 17:30

Seen our first daffs this weekend

Average over 7Km a day - mostly over the weekends

@ProfYaffle I'm absolutely going to worry about that cat now.

Beautiful scilla in the woods near me. I had to stop I thought there surely couldn't be bluebells and snowdrops flowering at the same time! I've really battled with late winter blah in the last few weeks but I can feel life returning and managed 10k walk yesterday.

281 km walked so far this year. Mostly keeping to my step count but ready for a change of scenery now.

The wild garlic is coming up now, and there's some blackthorn starting into flower too.
50.5 km walked this week

291.7 km so far.

midgemadgemodge · 19/02/2023 19:55

Snowdrops aconites and crocus round here still

Not sone much this week with visitors

ErrolTheDragon · 19/02/2023 18:17

We have daffs coming out up here now too.
I've done 60.2 km since last Saturday. Part of this was some sections of the local canal which we've not done before (had cycled some of it in the past). We've decided to make sure we walk all of it, hopefully within the next few weeks of months - we've been meaning to for years!

241.2 km so far.

@sheepdreams I think you can sign up anytime, you choose your own start date.

ProfYaffle · 19/02/2023 16:02

Nice 8.5 miles today around south Norfolk. It was a quirky sign type of day.

Lovely thread. I was lucky enough to be in Andalucia last week. Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Malaga. My apple watch told me in no uncertain terms that over 6 days I had walked 85 km. I couldn't believe it as it was just so interesting walking around seeing all those lovely places.

I am 65 and up for it thankfully, no joint issues so am making the most of it while I can!

sheepdreams · 12/02/2023 07:00

Hi what a lovely thread can I join? I love walking and live in an area where there is lots of scope for it but working F/T restricts the time ai have to do it. I do walk my lovely dog for about an hour a day and really enjoy that. Would love to increase the walking. Is it too late to register for the 1000 mile challenge now?

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2023 22:14

No daffs here yet but plenty of snowdrops and crocuses.
60.9km since my last update brings me to 180.9km so far.

I had no idea about that Halo at Rossendale - I've not been over there for a few years and never at night (I used to spend quite a lot of happy Saturdays on, or in, Clowbridge reservoir when DD was a teenager.Grin)

Daisymay2 · 11/02/2023 20:07

Just another 3. 5miles around the village today. Snowdrops have really spread and first daffodils fully out in the Churchyard. 17 miles so far this week.

Amazing photo - are you sure you weren't welcoming our alien overlords?

I tried to upload a photo but it's too big for MN to cope with and I lost my temper in attempting to reduce the pixels in Paint Hmm
