Gym costs?

How much would you expect to pay for a gym without classes and then one with glasses? Do you expect it to have parking or do you factor in 30 minutes trying to find a space and the cost of parking?

I just can't find one that isn't a massive faff. The closest ones are 15 min drive away but quite limited, the best one is 30 mins in no traffic but almost impossible to get a parking space plus I'd need to sell a kidney.

I think convenience really matters if you want to build a routine.

I would try out your closest - ask them about day passes or try hussle or class pass.

Prices vary hugely.

It depends what you want from a gym. I'm happy to pay more (list price is £73 a month but I pay less through a corporate scheme) for somewhere that is a 10min walk from my front door, has free parking should I require it, has a 25m pool, is clean and tidy, well maintained equipment, good showers, lockers that lock and friendly welcoming staff and members. I use it because I enjoy going. I've tried one of the big cheap chains and it was just soulless by comparison.

The membership for our council gym allows you access to 3 gyms with weights, pools, stream and sauna running track and all the classes plus the use of gyms in neighbouring borough’s.. car parking is free for about 3 hours in most of the centres. It costs £28 a month.

10 mins drive free parking £15 a month with classes, no pool. I’ve been a member at a much more expensive one and there’s no difference in the equipment. Parking is better at the cheaper one.

My local gym is £20 a month. There are some classes. That's just a gym though - no pool etc.
Local leisure centre with pool and classes is £30 a month.

Both have free parking. I wouldn't be wanting to spend ages looking for parking. Actually ideally I wouldn't be driving to the gym at all.

Depends what you want out of your gym though. I am happy with small and no frills (actually I prefer it to big and frills, but expensive to pay for frills) as a I come in, do a workout and go away again. I value convenience over facilities. If it took me a round trip of an hour just to get to and from the gym, I would not bother and exercise differently in the hour instead. I only swim occasionally so a gym without a pool and paying separately for swimming works out better for me. Your priorities may be different.

Local leisure centre. I pay £24 a month for swim / classes / gym / sauna. Tonnes of parking. Never an issue getting into the classes.

Pre kids I joined a posh gym. £60 a month. Struggled to get in the classes as were so limited. Was worth it for the gym when I was on Mat leave as they had a crèche. Was a Godsend.
