Has anyone tried it? Does anyone want to try it and report back? I would love to hear of your experiences. Here is the technique:

Personally, I ran for 27 minutes outside today using this technique after only watching the above clip on Wednesday and the following days practising it, doing 30 minutes continuous laps on carpet inside, each day, our house!

I didn't feel fit to drop, either.

I'm amazed!

Done 20 mins last few nights just around the lounge and kitchen. I idea of distance or pace but average bpm is 130 and Fitbit says I’m burning just over 200 cals. I might try tracking next time and see what it picks up. I’ve been really good with food all week and I’ve hidden my scales. I’ve lost a lot of weight but put about 20 pounds back on and want to shift it again. I’ve decided to stop weighing everyday and I’m going to weigh on the 1st Aug and see what the results are then. It will be 3 weeks so I’m hoping for 6 pounds but we shall see. Enjoying my little runs atm tho. 😃 glad everyone is doing ok. Very best of luck for tough mudder Alberta x

I'm foam rolling the calf as we speak. Going to circuits later to see how it feels. There'll be a bit of indoor running at that, but not much.

slowrun · 17/07/2018 11:41

Faith, thanks. Pleased you like your new Sketchers. I agree regarding the heat, it always affects my energy levels. It's one reason I can convince myself to get out of bed early for a run - I know it'll be nice and cool outside.

Morning all!

Alberta, a tough mudder! Blimey! Hope the calf pain settles.

Sounds like you’re doing well slowrun!

I went out again this morning. Ran 2 miles in 37 minutes. Average pace was 18’17”.
Definitely think the heat affects my heart rate so maybe I’ll be faster after the weather breaks?! Still I got to try out my new Sketchers which are definitely the better choice for this sort of running.

slowrun · 17/07/2018 07:37

Great it feels easier, Alberta and hope your calf eases up for the Tough Mudder.

Ran 8km on Sunday at niko/ MAF pace, then 5km last night in the heaving rain at a little more than MAF pace for around 29min. Felt very easy - much easier than previously when I've run two consecutive days. Only downside is I have a very stiff right calf today. I'm an over-pronator and run in flat shoes, and my technique isn't great, so I need to work on that. Will probably run again on Thursday and see what happens. Tough Mudder coming up so I don't want to carry an injury through that Shock.

Hope your 'plod' went well Gherkin.

I had another indoor run yesterday and outdoor run to park and back today. Indoor run yesterday was annoying. Put a CD on which was shorter than I thought and ended before I finished, then when I ran by the radio and switched that on they were talking for the rest of it!🤦‍♀️

Today's run was good though. I was faster and then some, partly because I had the energy at the end to sprint the last few yards - just wanted to see what it felt like! GrinWill do some more Niko Niko running inside later because my run outside was only just under 24 minutes.

Oooof I’m achy today. Will go for a little happy plod tomorrow morning I think.

slowrun · 15/07/2018 17:31

So easy to fit an indoor run in around your day as well!

slowrun · 15/07/2018 17:30

It's all good, though, sazreed. Smile

That sounds really good slow. I have to be at work for 6:30am so I refuse to get up any earlier than I already do. Ha ha. My kitchen is tiles so I’m doing half soft half hard floor. I do wear my footwear as I suffer with plantar and don’t want to aggravate it. But I feel happy enough doing it this way for now. Maybe I’ll venture out again in a few weeks. I walk a lot already so this is a little extra.

slowrun · 15/07/2018 17:03

That's great sazreed! I too started indoors and felt it was easier inside. I deduced it was because carpet is pretty soft and I was running barefoot. But I do really enjoy running outdoors too. I go very early before my breakfast, so from about 6.20am in the morning. There are very few people about then. Saying that, I still do run indoors. I run longer 45 min runs indoors now as well as shorter runs to boost my run from outside. I think indoor runs can be a valuable part of doing this. I ran indoors all last week and then my outdoor run was quicker with no added effort! 🙂

I went out Friday eve to my local track but found it a lot harder. Probably because there were people around so I went too fast. Then I felt knackered. Think I will stick to doing it indoors for now. Have done 20 mins last couple of mornings round my lounge and kitchen. So will stick with that for now 😃

slowrun · 15/07/2018 07:33

Well just went for a run outside this morning. My back was fine, even though it ached a bit last night but then, I have been prone to back problems before I started running so I don't think it is running that stresses it.

Lovely run. Shade beautiful after a muggy night. What is more I was over a minute faster than usual! Wasn't aware of pushing the speed at all. So I am chuffed!😁

I get a bit like that, Gherkin. My back started aching after deciding to do a 45 min run and a separate 25 minute run in one day early last week. So I had to relegate myself to indoor runs all week (softer surface of carpet seems to give less opportunity for jolting things). Hopefully I will feel supple enough to run outside again soon.

I never thought I'd be saying things like that before discovering Niko Niko. I took any excuse not to exercise!Grin

TheGherkin · 14/07/2018 12:22

A shorter one would have been sensible. But I don’t do sensible and I was enjoying it Grin

slowrun · 14/07/2018 11:13

Oh dear, Gherkin. Massage and rest then. Maybe start a little gentler for a shorter period of time until your muscles get used to it.

OP posts:
TheGherkin · 14/07/2018 11:06

Although my right calf is very unhappy now. Damn cramp has yanked it.

slowrun · 14/07/2018 09:57

Fabulous, Gherkin! So pleased you've got on with the technique and like it! Smile

OP posts:
TheGherkin · 14/07/2018 09:12

Amazing!

I ‘ran’ for 50 minutes! Even up the hills that usually kill me. I didn’t want to die every 10 minutes and I wasn’t heaving and huffing. Although my calves did start to burn a bit and I got cramp in my right one at the end. I kept having to adjust my posture and look up instead of down. Heart rate hovered around 130.

I think this could be my new favourite thing Grin

slowrun · 13/07/2018 21:19

Great, TheGherkin! I'll be interested to hear how you got on.Smile

OP posts:
TheGherkin · 13/07/2018 20:47

Tomorrow i am going for a plod. Slowly.

Used to run, slowly, but have got out of the habit. And i am fat and my knees hurt. So i’m intrigued to see if this is different/easier.

I will report back.

slowrun · 13/07/2018 14:47

Wow, that'll be great, Faith! You'll just be breezing through races before you know it!Smile

OP posts:
FaithEverPresent · 13/07/2018 12:52

Yes me too slowrun! I’m actually optimistic that I’ll soon be able to Niko at almost as fast a pace as I do for a fast run. I treated myself to some Sketchers today to Niko in, they are definitely lighter so I’m hoping it’ll help my footfall.

slowrun · 13/07/2018 10:59

Fantastic, Faith! Pleased it has been worth doing for you even though you are already experienced at running.
