Anybody else in London ballot?

It's the first time I've entered. I didn't think I'd be bothered but now we're approaching d day (week after next I'm guessing?) Ive become obsessed and am writing imaginary training plans Blush

When I entered I thought that if I got a spot, I'd defer it to give myself a year to put extra miles in my legs. But now I don't care about the extra miles...!!

Might look for other spring marathons.... K own I couldn't commit to fundraising for charity place.

Congratulations TrijoBear

Congrats TriJo!

TriJo · 06/10/2017 08:36

I'm in but will be deferring due to the small matter of running buddy #2 due in February. 2nd ballot acceptance in 7 attempts.

Runwayqueen · 05/10/2017 22:51

Loudest please don’t feel guilty, you have every right to have entered and got a spot.** Be happy for yourself Smile

I do think the ballot system needs adjusting, it seems wrong that people are being rejected so many times, but I absolutely don’t begrudge those who have got spots.**

I'm doing Brighton for Cats Protection. that gives me a guaranteed place for VLM 2019 (which feels in a way like cheating!)

SandunesAndRainclouds · 05/10/2017 17:20

Brighton is flat-ish. A steep but short uphill followed by a gradual climb out to about mile 10, then down and flat all the way.

IllBeAtTheBarIfYouNeedMe · 05/10/2017 17:13

9th (or 10th) rejection here too. I gave up waiting for London and ran the jersey marathon last weekend. I’ll definitely be doing that again next year as it’s not a nonsense ballot system. Good luck to all who have been successful!

I'm all signed up for newport. Pretty cheap for a marathon and nice and flat!

MoonlightBay · 05/10/2017 16:07

Don't feel guilty Loudest. You have as much right as anyone else for a place, enjoy every minute.

I agree they should bring back the old system and dare I say it, reduce the number of charity places.

I am trying to work out which is the easiest flattest UK course. It is the only way I have of obtaining GFA. Even then I am probably being extremely optimistic Grin

BaffledMummy · 05/10/2017 14:54

Ha migrant knowing my luck they will reduce the GFA times when I reach 79 Smile

LoudestRoar · 05/10/2017 14:03

SandunesAndRainclouds I agree. I got very lucky, this was my first time applying. Didn't get in on the ballot, but got on of the 1000 bequest draw places. Although I've done nothing wrong, I can't help feel guilty that there are more deserving runners that should have had the place.

That being said, although I'm not a proper runner at the moment, I am going to give this chance the respect it deserves. I've already started training!

SandunesAndRainclouds · 05/10/2017 13:54

I think that VMLM should reinstate the 5 attempts rule. It is unfair that people get a no for 9 years consecutively when others get a yes more than once.

Migrant2 · 05/10/2017 13:37

Baffledmummy, keep trying, the GFA required time is pretty achievable once you get to 80!
I got rejected

BaffledMummy · 05/10/2017 13:03

Rejection email number 9 just received. Will keep trying but chances are I'll be too old by the time I actually land a place!

sheepysheep · 05/10/2017 12:14

style sorry you didn't get in :-(

Was it you that was considering Blackpool or was that someone else? It's the same day as london. I'm wondering about it - I've done the half there a couple of times.

Ooh anyone have the real buzz link? Still nothing here and the post has been and gone again :(

SandunesAndRainclouds · 05/10/2017 11:19

My registration changed this morning too. I've also been able to pay so my entry is now confirmed Smile

They don't let anyone down gently though, do they?!

urbanrock · 05/10/2017 11:12

Not successful :(
Does anyone have a link for the newport marathon?

Imstyledilemma · 05/10/2017 10:54

I'm off to look at other marathons.

Imstyledilemma · 05/10/2017 10:53

Good luck everybody!

Imstyledilemma · 05/10/2017 10:52

csmudge, you beat me to it!

Imstyledilemma · 05/10/2017 10:51

They've put messages on the RealBuzz saying This entry has not been successful in the Ballot in abrupt, bright red letters.

There's letting you know and there's letting you know. Hmm

csmudge · 05/10/2017 10:50

For anyone still waiting, the real buzz website has been updated with your status.
