We are a bit cut off in the designated forum so here's a shiny new thread to populate.

Hello to anyone that hasn't ventured over to The Weights Room but is lifting/resistance training.

One in each hand, yes.

I have made it my mission to get that one particular lift to 15kg.

My other lifts I'm slightly less determined to increase, although I do. Just more slow.

Tomorrowisanewday · 16/09/2017 21:13

Is that with one hand just? Thats impressive - i do hamstring /shoulder press combos with a 17.5kg barbell, and 4 x 10 just about kills me!!

JustGettingStarted · 15/09/2017 20:11

I really kicked butt on dumbbell overhead press today. I worked a long time to get to 10kg x 10 x 3...then I started to make the jump to 12kg. I could barely do 3 reps... Then 5... Etc.

Today I did 12kg x 8 x 3 and then did 10kg x 10 x 3.

At this rate I'll be at 14kg by Christmas!

Ollivander84 · 14/09/2017 00:05

Sort of leg day today
Trap bar 45kg 3 x 8
Goblet squats with medicine ball 3 x 8
Glute kickbacks (machine) 25kg 3 x 8
Lat pull down with declining weights so 8 reps then 10 then 12
Adductor 30kg 3 x 8
Abductor (always easier for me!) 45kg 3 x 8

Light weights still, now 4 months post spinal surgery
Riding the horse tomorrow and Sunday, and a 30 min spin class on Saturday

Tomorrowisanewday · 13/09/2017 02:33

Now I've been educated on the subject, can anyone explain why they're called battle ropes?

NC4now · 12/09/2017 22:04

Well, I'll never call them battle ropes again 😂

MaidOfStars · 12/09/2017 17:08

High fives Tomorrow Grin

Maid - in our gym, it's called "wanking the rope", not battle ropes. Maybe we're at the same gym Grin

MaidOfStars · 12/09/2017 13:30

pushing a sled thing around the gym
My trainer occasionally has me pushing a really heavy plate around the gym. You have to get really low.

I look like a dog nudging its dinner plate around the kitchen.

Feed me, human

It's the battle ropes that kill me
I am learning new things every day.

I now know these are called battle ropes and not wanking ropes.

I just watched that advert. She's shot from the back, so you can't see exactly how much rope she's moving. If it's only a short length, it will be easier.

NC4now · 12/09/2017 09:39

I keep seeing that advert too. I look nothing like that when I use them.

hazelnutlatte · 12/09/2017 09:14

I had a few PT sessions last year and she wanted me to have a go at the battle ropes and pushing a sled thing around the gym - I politely declined! I keep seeing that advert for Nuffield Health gyms with the woman using the battle ropes - I can't think of anything that would make me less likely to want to join a gym!

FindoGask · 12/09/2017 05:01

I like it when other people use the battle ropes at the gym - so entertaining.

NC4now · 11/09/2017 22:39

I don't mind it really. It's the battle ropes that kill me.

Urglewurgle · 11/09/2017 21:32

I bloody hate the thing! Why is it so hard to push?

NC4now · 11/09/2017 17:25

Who's with me?

The prowler makes me feel like Jeff Capes 😂
We sometimes do the bungee run thing too. They used to have one at the students union where you had to try and get the beer without being pinged back. It's not as fun without the beer...

Urglewurgle · 11/09/2017 17:02

It's fun in a kind of 'i think I might be dying' kind of way. Grin

JustGettingStarted · 11/09/2017 17:00

The prowler does look fun!

Urglewurgle · 11/09/2017 16:22

Things not to say to your PT :

'That prowler thing looks fun...'
'Did you see the gym is having a AMRAP in 2 mins burpee competition? '
'I could probably do a few more/lift a bit heavier'.

JustGettingStarted · 11/09/2017 15:47

I think I will try it!

MaidOfStars · 11/09/2017 15:40

If you ever try it, it's amazing for your arse and quads.

MaidOfStars · 11/09/2017 15:36

He he, did this earlier. Unfortunately, the object I was touching was a foam roller and it kept rolling away a little as I was touching....

OP posts:
JustGettingStarted · 11/09/2017 15:07

What I've see is someone placing an object on the floor, just at the end of the belt band's reach, then sprinting towards it and reaching down to touch it.
