Panic moment, we were running out of room on old thread so started a new one for today's run reports Smile

Ours is a 2 lap course but I don't find that too bad. I've done an almost 4 lap course and I did find I was losing count Shock

BWatchWatcher · 16/05/2017 20:05

Thanks folks! I will drop them a line! Appreciate your thoughts!

Howlongtillbedtime · 15/05/2017 18:40

Thank you for the info about the under 11s he will be very happy . I will show him what it says on the website as well and explain the man just got confused .

Now I just need to find a one loop course local to us

TriJo · 15/05/2017 18:20

MyBlackCat You just get used to it!

feetheart · 15/05/2017 17:48

Howlong - 11 year olds can definitely run on their own. DS counted down the weeks to his 11th birthday from about 18 months out :) It's under-11s who have to be with an adult.

feetheart · 15/05/2017 17:46

BWatchWatcher - (speaking with my Event Director hat on!) definitely speak to someone or, even better, email the event to report what happened both times. That way the info will get to the right person and there will be a record of it which may help them, especially if they have only had verbal reports so far. It is then up to them as to how they deal with it.
If it happened at our 5k event I would be fuming as it is totally inappropriate and completely against the parkrun ethos, at a junior event it's even more inappropriate Angry

Hopefully touristing over the next few weeks - Lowestoft on Saturday if we get organised enough to leave on Friday evening and Gorleston Cliffs the following week, numbers 17 and 18 on DS's countdown to 20.

MyBlackCat · 15/05/2017 17:13

howlong I'm pretty sure it's under 11s that have to be accompanied by an adult so your 11 year old should be fine to run on their own.

I don't think I could regularly run a 5 lap course trijo - how do you know who is on which lap???

DeepfriedPizza · 15/05/2017 15:20

BWatchWatcher I would report this to RD and ask them to do an announcement or email to remind everyone that kids are around and to mind their language etc.

DD (7) is doing her first this weekend so I am not going to chase a PB, I will run with her. She might not make it the whole way round but that's fine.

TriJo · 15/05/2017 13:52

My local one is 5.5 laps. The woman doing the briefing at the one I did as a tourist on Saturday took one look at my apricot top and said "You'll like this one, it's only 2 laps". Grin

Bushy Park in Dublin is around 2 miles from my mum's house so will have to tick that one off next time I'm back...

Howlongtillbedtime · 15/05/2017 10:06

For those of you who volunteer and know more about the organisation can you please answer something for me .

My 11 yr old ran with me on Sat and really enjoyed it and wants to do it regularly but the organiser on the day said that 11 and under can't run on their own they have to be within arms length of their adult but on the website it says under 11 ? He won't want to keep doing it if he has to run at my pace so do I just let him go off on his own ?

Howlongtillbedtime · 15/05/2017 10:00

Morning all . I am new to parkrun , have only done 2 but I love the ethos of the whole thing .

My local one is 3 laps and I find it a bit depressing going past the finish line and having to carry on so I am going to see if I can find another one. I did a local run a couple of weeks ago which was one big loop and enjoyed it a lot more .

MyBlackCat · 15/05/2017 09:23

I ended up touristing at a new course on Saturday, nice park, mostly flat but three laps which I'm still not a fan off. Pleased with my time though Smile

Double Bushy:

Having run at the daddy of them all, Bushy Park London where it all began, and also at the 13 week old Bushy Park Dublin. Earning one a double Bush (Bushmills whisky, alternatives accepted).

They even gave me a name check in this week's run report, the wee skitters!

BWatchWatcher · 14/05/2017 13:32

Any thoughts on a wwyd at junior parkrun? DS ran his first parkrun 2 weeks ago and said a guy (adult) swore at him and told him to shove off when DS overtook him.

We went again today and the same guy was there with his son. At one point he said to his kid 'that dog is running faster than you and it's a dumb animal'. He made similar comments to his child throughout. I was running behind them.

Should I say anything? We are new to parkrun.

runningpink · 14/05/2017 08:35

No parkruns for me for a few weeks as doing other events. Really missed it yesterday thiugh. Well done on the PBs.

At my parkrun they hold up some signs with expected finish times to indicate roughly what sort of order to stand in.I have found I am best to start slightly further forward than my usual time otherwise can't get through the bottleneck at start. And the buggy runners can slot in wherever they want (usually near the front) as they are some of the fastest runners we have!

AuntieStella · 14/05/2017 08:25

Ok, what's a double Bushy?

And yes, it's quite a good idea to line up by anticipated finish time, even on a run (not a race)

Congestion is far worse as it's people who go slower who cause problems for faster ones behind at bottlenecks. Ours asks you to line up by expected time, but even then there's a quite a congested bit just after the start, but then there's a hill which sorts people out and nothing else is problematic.

MelanieCheeks · 14/05/2017 07:16

Etiquette is to have faster runners at the front where they won't be as affected by bottlenecks. Dogs and buggies start at the back. I've been at some where they have markers with your expected finish time indicating where you should start.

This weekend i managed to achieve " double Bushy" 😎

coragreta · 13/05/2017 20:30

I Just wanted to ask what difference out find between starting at the front v back and if there is etiquette to this. For context we had 800 today and two narrow bits on the first lap so I did have to walk as there was a blockage.

LauraMipsum · 13/05/2017 20:23

I didn't go today, I did my longest run so far midweek and I've annoyed my hypermobile joints, so I'm going to have a run tomorrow morning instead. Should be ok for park run next week though!

cinnamongreyhound · 13/05/2017 20:15

Well done AuntieStella!

I had a lovely parkrun! Ran with an old running buddy who's been injured forever and talked about our troublesome new dogs. Then at the finish I chatted to people I haven't seen much of recently and an old customer who is now dating one of our regulars. New Saturday attendance record of 149 Grin

AuntieStella · 13/05/2017 15:14

New PB!!!!!

MyBlackCat · 12/05/2017 17:26

Knew I was tempting fate by predicting myself a PB - the parkrun I intended to run is cancelled tomorrow so I'll be going to a different one where my PB is a little more competitive Blush

MyBlackCat · 12/05/2017 10:25

deep dh's can be rubbish at times. A few years back I did a half marathon and dh decided to enter too, I trained and he didn't. He said he would run with me but after a couple of miles said I was too slow and sped off Angry

Imagine my delight at the 9 mile point when I spotted him walking! He started running again with me but couldn't handle my pace and I ended up finishing 8 minutes ahead of him Smile

I'm going to get a PB this weekend, I'm on the tourist trail again and have run this course once before with a friend. It was a very very steady run so I'm very optimistic that I will see those two magic letters next to my name this week Grin

DeepfriedPizza · 12/05/2017 10:07

Dh ran with me last week as DD was away overnight.

I've trained really hard to get my times down and I warned him to not overtake me (lightheardedly)
I didn't want him to come in and make me feel bad about myself as I really do try my hardest.
I secretly wanted him to struggle and be slower than me Blush

Anyway, it was pacer week and I managed a pb of 27.38! he let me go in front of him so he got 27.39 Grin

at the end I told him that I really struggled and he said that he could have went a bit faster. I nearly clobbered him

No Parkrun this week, Decathlon are hosting a 5k in another park so I've signed up for that as I get a free t shirt Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 11/05/2017 13:37

Sounds like a Pb week then RadiatorWatch!
