I want to ask MN to create a topic for yoga. Would you be interested to share ideas, tips, and achievements in our practice on a Yoga topic?

Yes I would be interested. Funnily enough I was looking a chair yoga only the other week as after a really bad accident it looked like I'd be able to cope with it.

Yes - would love a yoga topic!

HellonHeels · 21/05/2015 13:34

I am open to all styles of yoga. Even the ones i don't care for.

And I'd let pilates in too as long as the pilates persons don't get up in arms about a bit of chanting and spiritual chat.

Namaste

HellonHeels · 21/05/2015 13:32

Great idea! I'm in.

Ommmmmmmmmmmm

Elliptic5 · 21/05/2015 13:00

I'm a pilates person so I would welcome a topic that included that as well.

I think it was in Religion and Spirituality, Cote, which is what shocked me so much. It wasn't a savaging by AIBU standards, but fell well below the humanity and mutual consideration I'd expect of yoga practitioners.

And I have to point out that I have no problem with anyone who does hatha yoga in a leisure centre Grin. Many years ago DH invented TV-yoga which involved doing the sun greeting while watching Sunday morning political TV - it worked for him for 6 months until he gave it up altogether.

Arch - Good point, but I'd like to think that a topic about yoga wouldn't turn into AIBU.

Only if people promise with a solemn 'om' not to indulge in the kind of bitchyness more familiar to other topics. I'm still slightly bitter about a touchy-feely thread some years back inviting everyone to talk about the type of yoga they practiced so we could, y'know, all learn from each other and nod wisely and say 'hey that's so cool, I did a bit of Iyengar too' etc. I made the mistake of saying that the name of the yoga I do probably isn't familiar to anyone because it's a small non-profit organisation (not in the UK) that has developed its own hybrid model with a particular name (which has been trademarked to prevent people claiming they're teaching it without doing the appropriate training), and people turned pretty savage about that running contrary to the principles of yoga etc. They completely ignored the fact that many of them were doing eg hatha yoga taught by commercial teachers at the local leisure centre for profit, while this group I go to is a registered charity that uses any surplus resources to support vulnerable people in the community. I was pretty disgusted with that YABU kind of attitude on a supposedly peaceful thread, and haven't posted about yoga since then.

And as has become clear from the above, I also have a long way to go before becoming suitably detached from negative emotions...

But I'd be very into a respectful topic, especially one where we could discuss what to do about extremely short ligaments behind the knees which make some asanas horribly painful (or indeed generally physical restrictions).

And what to do about sweaty hands on the supposedly non-slip mat which makes the downward dog very slippy.

Picklebean · 21/05/2015 11:58

Yes please!

SconeCreamJam · 21/05/2015 11:58

I've recently had a baby so can't get to classes at the moment, yogaglo is my new best friend. I've been doing half hour classes each evening and really feeling stronger for doing a little bit each day.

CaoNiMa · 21/05/2015 11:57

If we had a whole topic, we could have specific threads for ashtanga, bikram, hatha, etc. And pilates.

TheRealMaryMillington · 21/05/2015 11:55

This is a lovely idea. I would like that a LOT.

SconeCreamJam · 21/05/2015 11:50

Yes please!

CoteDAzur · 21/05/2015 11:47

Great to see interest! Maybe even an all-inclusive Yoga & Pilates topic? Smile
