April 30 day shred anyone?

I hope there isn't already a thread, had a look & could only find the March one. I have it on good authority that Tesco have the DVD for a fiver - I'm off to spend some club card points so that I have no excuse to not get cracking tomorrow!

I've also taken a 'before' photo (eek!) so that I can marvel at my transformation at the end of it if the shred doesn't kill me first

Who's with me?!

Evening Shredders Smile

I completed my 1st 30DS Jan / Feb thanks to the great support of the MN Shred Thread and am currently doing Ri30 more like Ri60 to be honest which I try and do whilst DP is bathing DC (5+3) who enjoy any opportunity to be an enthusiastic audience / co Shredders if they manage to sneak out of the bath early.
I feel so much stronger and fitter than a few months ago.

Am out tomorrow evening so will try and 'Shred' on weds but like to keep active on the thread to ensure I keep it going.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/03/2014 22:58

OK, the crowd off the March thread have found you and will start invading! Smile

I'm a serial shredder - currently doing Ripped in 30 instead so if you want I can share a bit of advice.

Masquerade - absolutely right about weights, some exercises are really hard (e.g the anterior raises) so most people find 1/1.5 kg enough for those, but can go higher for others. Aim for weights that let you do all or most of a set with good form. I've got a rather random selection - 1.5 and 3 kg, 5 and 10 lb pairs.

HappyGoLuckyGirl - typically people are sore (esp legs) for 3-4 days and then it wears off - honestly!

mmack - and others with dodgy knees - do be very careful about form; if a joint starts to hurt don't push it - go easy esp on lunges and if necessary find alternatives to any cardio intervals which cause joint pain.

StuntNun · 31/03/2014 22:30

PhDmummy I started with 1 kg weights but quickly found I needed 2 kg weights so it might be worth getting a dumbbell or fitbell set. The ones with hexagonal ends are good as they don't roll away and you can use them as supports for push ups to take the pressure off your wrists. If you get ones with rounded ends then putting one over the other at an angle stops them rolling away mid-workout.

mmack · 31/03/2014 22:02

Me. But I'm only aiming for 4/5 days a week. I don't think my knees are up to Jillian every day. I've started a few times before and it's great but I've never got beyond a few days of level 2. I'm hoping being on a thread might keep me motivated. I would like to loose 7 to 10lbs by summer.

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 31/03/2014 18:06

Oops, my mistake - they're 1.5kg weights, probably just as well! (My arms are like spaghetti - not in a good way)

Will treat today as a practice run, starting the shred properly tomorrow Grin

I'm only using 1kg weights. My upper body strength is pretty poor; I can't do proper press ups and the side lunges/lateral arm raises kill me! Although the good thing is I don't even notice my leg muscles, my arms are hurting so much.

I suppose I do find some of the upper body exercises easier, chest flies and the bicep curls and the back one so maybe I could get a heavier set for those, I really do want to feel more confident about my upper arms this summer.

Highlandbird · 31/03/2014 17:17

Right I've bought it...I'm in! Will start tomorrow it's not April yet WineBiscuit

sunshinysummer · 31/03/2014 17:02

Yay-I came on to exercise to find a shred thread! I did it last summer (diff username) and found the threads on here really motivational.

The results were great but I broke my arm last November and have since out on about 10lbs due to no exercise and rubbish eating.
I did L1D1 yesterday so finding stairs hard today! Will do d2 tonight but might have to slow the pace down a bit!

here's to some successful April shredding...:)

RunningKatie · 31/03/2014 16:53

I got weights from tkmaxx.

I'm on mfp, started at beginning of month and am 4lb down so far.

I'm aiming to shred or gym each day, with one rest day a week.

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 31/03/2014 16:42

Oh my word! Wasn't gonna start until tomorrow but curiosity got the better of me... I so do not like side lunges! DS2 enjoyed running round in circles around me whilst shouting encouragement!Grin

Meh, DVD was £7.50! Still fairly bargainous though. Found some 2.5kg dumbells in Decathlon for £5.99. I don't need anything else do I??

Can anyone suggest good hand weights to use - I'm looking at Pineapples 2.5lb weights on Amazon just now - thanks!

SuchSweetSorrow · 31/03/2014 14:48

I'm in! Also doing MFP

PhDmummy · 31/03/2014 13:02

That's a good idea, Chuck, I think I will start using My Fitness Pal as well to keep an eye on what I am eating, might help me cut down on the snacking on days I work at home.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 31/03/2014 12:59

I'm in! I sort of started late this month but nasty cold/flu bug has meant I've only managed 2 days. Smile Am also doing 5:2

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 31/03/2014 12:58

Oh Happy, I'm scared now!

I was thinking about getting up half an hour earlier to do it, but that might be a little bit unrealistic!

Level one is on YouTube. As I understand it you do level for 10 days, then level 2 for 10 days & then level 3 for the rest.

I might start using My Fitness Pal again too, not to calorie-count but just to make myself a bit more aware of how many biscuits what I'm actually eating.

I'm in! My 3 year old and 16 month old join in, they ask for mummy telly and are better at level 2 than i am. Smile

Challenging month ahead, dh going away for 9 days so have to exercise at home, have also quit the gym so now need to relearn how to ride a bike!

OkyDoke · 31/03/2014 11:48

Ahh I'm going to try this, need a boost in my weight loss! What are the rules, is it every day? Do you have to do Level 1 for so long or what?

Thanks!

IPokedABadgerWithASpoon · 31/03/2014 11:43

I'm tentatively! in too! I'll see if I can fit it in today on the baby's nap, if not I'll do it tomorrow...

PhDmummy · 31/03/2014 11:39

I sooooo need to tone up before a girly break in May so I would like to join in please. I bought the DVD 2 months ago but still in its cellophane! I work full time so thought I might attempt it everyday before breakfast - does that sound reasonable?

masquerade · 31/03/2014 11:31

Done :-)
Today was easier than day 2.

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 31/03/2014 09:52

Oh god.

I want to say I'm in but I did it once before and it killed me. The pain the next morning was something I wasn't expecting.

I'm 9 months post partum and need to get fit again. My back actually wobbles when I dry it with a towel. Shock

masquerade · 31/03/2014 09:28

Yep me. I actually started last week, did Thursday and Friday but then missed the weekend. I'm going to do it at half past nine today - enough time to mentally prepare myself but not so long to talk myself out of it. I believe some people actually enjoy exercise, I'm hoping its something that can be learned.

I'm on a diet as well (1400 calories a day) because I need to lose weight, but I'm Shredding to improve my fitness mostly, I've noticed I'm starting to get out of breath after a couple of flights of stairs at work, not good!

Highlandbird · 31/03/2014 09:09

Right I'll see if I can get it, if not can I download on YouTube?

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 31/03/2014 09:01

Yay, hello people!

Highland & Engles, just look at them as your (slightly unconventional) personal trainers! I have a 4yo who will probably demand Thomas the fecking Tank Engine the second I put the DVD in, not to mention the 18 yo who is likely to point & laugh...

I'm going to have a good go at downing 8 glasses of water a day & doing the clean eating thing. I'm already vegan so you'd think that bit would be easy... But there's no animal products in chips, or a surprisingly large range of biscuits Blush
