Over on the Parkrunners Anonomoyous thread there has been a cunning plan being hatched for a summer 10k meet up. Picking up on excellent suggestion from thenightsky here is a shiny new thread for us to use to plot.

So who's in?

Can I join? I did C25k in the summer, and have kept going, I do 3x3 k runs in the week and I longer run on a Sunday. I would love to build up to a summer 10k, that would be a huge achievement for podgy little me!

I can't tell you how much I love running! It's been an epiphany. I use Map My Run, but find it increasingly inaccurate - I ran for 44 mins today and it reckons I ran nearly 14k, the time is right but the distance is way, way over what I actually ran. Has anyone else found this?

ShrekTheHalls · 27/12/2013 10:04

will check that out ohohne Smile

Grin at busy already but I can tweak the other stuff to fit in with this as cross training iyswim and get two runs a week of my own Smile
sorryfor hijack Blush

Shrek can you download a training plan which gradually builds up the distance like Bridge to 10K - but that will need you to run several times a week, and it sounds like you are busy already. I read somewhere that you shouldn't increase your distance more than 10% a week.

If it's techy stuff you are after (I don't know how runkeeper works, but think it's an app of some sort), I have a very basic Garmin (the 110) which tells me how far I've gone and how fast I'm going. It's all I need (there are other versions with more functions). You can download the data from the watch to your computer. I logged all my marathon training runs on it and it was really motivating to see how far I'd gone, how my times were (marginally) improving and most imortantly how many calories I'd burnt Grin.

ShrekTheHalls · 27/12/2013 00:49

anyone got any better suggestions than runkeeper to help me push up the distance? I'm a sprinter tbh and I'm going to find it mighty tricky to push past the 5k I can do on a good day now. I swim a couple of hrs a week and do around 8hrs of aerobic activity a week too (being nonspecific in order to avoid outing self Wink ) but that doesn't translate into distance iyswim. Athletics coaching ain't going to help me either Grin as it will just reinforce my habits!

WoodBurnerBabe · 26/12/2013 19:54

I'm starting running again tomorrow, am hoping to do our local 5k in March then would love a 10k to aim for! But does depend where it is.

Sirzy · 26/12/2013 19:54

talking, non here either. I wish there was!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/12/2013 19:50

Sirzy's idea of finding a few is a good one Smile

karatekimmi · 26/12/2013 19:47

I'd be interested in finding out more, again depends where.

talkingnonsense · 26/12/2013 19:41

We don't have a parkrun near us :(, but I'm in anyway!

Mitchy1nge · 26/12/2013 19:41

am also potentially in (subject to how far I can be bothered to travel)

ilovesmurfs · 26/12/2013 19:38

i used a zenlabs 10k app. week eight is the same as the nhs end of c25k. so.you can start at wk 7-8. then it builfs up to 20k. think.it was 14 or 16 wks in yotal? but wks 1-8 are couch to 5k iyswim? its free and i found it very good.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 26/12/2013 19:29

Can anyone recommend 5-10k podcasts?

I use an iPod nano to run with and need someone telling me what to do!

I used the NHS choices couch 25k, but don't think that they've done one to get me up to 10k.

Sirzy · 26/12/2013 19:25

Could always look for a few around the country so people can do the one closest to them

Facelikeafriendlyapple · 26/12/2013 19:23

Yes, where? Potentially would be in though somewhat ironically would be too lazy to travel far for it...

Blatherskite · 26/12/2013 19:20

Depending on where it is, I could be talked into a 10k Xmas Smile

Tiredemma · 26/12/2013 19:19

I'm in. Doing a couple of half marathons in 2014 so would love to do some Mnet 10ks

Sirzy · 26/12/2013 19:17

Sounds good. I have just started a general running thread looking for other runners so a chance to meet up with some more sounds good to me

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/12/2013 17:14

Hooray! Lots of runners already!

Eau mentioned running for charity/a MN running club. This thread is the Woolly Running thread from earlier in year - a spin off (pardon the pun) from the Woolly Hugs blanket and crafting threads. A team of us ran the BUPA 10K, and other runners ran 5K, 10K and even a half marathon all over the UK over the course of the year for World Child Cancer. It would be great if we could keep this going Smile.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/12/2013 16:53

Hello :)

thenightsky · 26/12/2013 12:07

Well given I'm the one who came up with this mad idea, I suppose I'd better make an effort to get myself up from 5k to 10k Blush

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 26/12/2013 08:50

I'm going to start building up from 5k to 10k this spring.

I'm tentatively in!

EauRougemasTree · 26/12/2013 08:48

I'm not on the Parkrunners thread either. I don't get to Parkrun much because DH won't get out of bed early on a Saturday Saturday mornings are busy for me.

I'd be up for a summer 10k though! Are we all going to raise money for the same charity? We could do a sort of MN running club maybe.

ShrekTheHalls · 26/12/2013 00:33

ooooooohhh. I'm not on the very exclusive parkrunners thread but can I join you please? I've recently returned to athletics after a few 2-5 mile runs over the last year or so, now ds1 has joined our local athletics club for long distance competition training, and I have accidentally been sucked in as a coach Confused (am qualified but desperately out of practiceBlush ) Needing focus tbh and this just might be itSmile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/12/2013 23:45
