Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Delighted to be on the new thread, thank you to isthat for getting us back to the start line. Love this thread, lots of inspiration and chat. I am now just over halfway to my 50 shirt and that red goal is key for 2014 :)

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2013 21:48

That's what I do MelanieCheeks but as I've discussed on here before I've got quite a single speed. I did 12.5 miles in just less than 2 hours yesterday so feel my parkrun should be faster pb 26m48 and it's been that since march! My best 10k is 1hr 1min.

Hi OPeaches, both respectable times. I know what you mean once I've overtaken someone I try to stay in front of them!

Waves to jchocchip :)

jchocchip · 28/10/2013 21:41

56th run on Saturday, only 44 to go to my 100 shirt! I need to speed up, still 6 minutes away from my course pb and I want to knock another 3 minutes off that. I am 9 minutes faster than my first post injury parkwalk though :) Great atmosphere at my local parkrun, good way to start the weekend. and I don't mind being last, somebody has to!

OPeaches · 28/10/2013 21:28

Hi, can I join? I've only just discovered Parkruns, and have done two. The first week I got pacing wrong and started too slow, coming in at 29:45, the second week and started too fast and came in at 28:39. Maybe next week I'll get it right! Starting off too fast was rubbish because as soon as I settled into my usual pace half the pack overtook me - so demoralising.

I've loved the parkrun atmosphere though and will definitely stick with it. I didn't know you got a tshirt for your 50th run. Only 48 to go!

MelanieCheeks · 28/10/2013 21:19

My pb on Saturday was 27:25.

I ran my first half marThon in June in just under 2hrs 30. When I was training for it I used park runs as a speed test, and then my long run on a Sunday.

Mitchy1nge · 28/10/2013 20:20

I suppose so, I think it would be a nice way to meet some more runners and I do sometimes try to do a fast, shorter run in the week so could rearrange running schedule a bit. I think I'll get there eventually.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2013 19:57

Could you not just do some more before or after Mitchy1nge? Doesn't have to be a fast 5k for you to take part :)

Mitchy1nge · 28/10/2013 19:42

lurking here despite getting no further to my local parkruns than printing off loads of barcodes (usually because my Long Run is on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday and I don't think I can cope with having it next door to a short, fast run) but I like the general running chat, never seem to get quite enough of it :)

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2013 17:59

I also aspire to a sub 60 min 10k melaniecheeks but my half marathon has been my focus recently and possibly get my t-short by the end of 2014. What is your parkrun pb, if you don't mind me asking?

MelanieCheeks · 28/10/2013 15:53

Hi-di-hi campers!

I've done 24 ParkRuns, so getting my 50 Tshirt is one of my running targets for next year. The other is to get a sub-60 10k.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2013 15:27

That's rubbish wem, you're right it's not the same :)

wem · 28/10/2013 12:47

Hello all, I missed Saturday as the sodding bus didn't turn up! Still, was all kitted out so went out on my usual route anyway, but it's not the same Sad

I'm getting very nervous about the 10k which is now just 3 weeks away and my training has not gone how I wanted at all. It's the abbey dash in Leeds if anyone knows it - reassure me that I won't be the slowest, with organisers packing up behind me as I limp along?

Spirulina · 28/10/2013 12:40

I need to get back to this too....halfmarathon training at the mo so its taken a backseat

usually take ds with me

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/10/2013 08:35

Morning all, jut marking my place Smile

Welcome to new posters, waves to old ones Smile

Angrybudda · 27/10/2013 22:18

I am going to do my first Parkrun next Saturday. Wish me luck! I am using it as part of my training for a 10k (1st) at the end of November and half marathon (1st) in March.

I did get out today for 5.5 miles but seemed to be running into the wind a lot, my excuse for not a great time!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/10/2013 22:09

Marking my place :)

Well done HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform

I'm the other way round Iggity, 18 done 32 to go!

Emski76 · 27/10/2013 21:02

Hi all. Can i join? My nearest parkrun is over half hour away and a really tricky course but have been lurking on this thread for a while. Am a keen runner and was meant to do my first 10k yest but have damaged my IT band on my right leg. Really gutted as id built up to running 10k every weekend with shorter runs in week. Have been trying some cross training at the gym this week but am missing running so much and its only been a week!!
Well done to u all on this thread. U are all an inspiration to me

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 27/10/2013 19:49

I'm far, far slower than DH but he has agreed to help me get my half marathon time under 2 hours and helping me pace is part of his plan. I am repaying the favour by helping him build some strength as all he does is run and he needs a bit more specific strength work to improve his times imo - he's going for sub-3 at marathon so is loads better than me.

Iggity · 27/10/2013 19:34

Agree foxtrot, 5ks are hell. I have a friend who would be in the elite category and he agrees that they are hard. My DH would never run with me....I'm much too slow. Well done on your time. That is great for a 2nd parkrun.

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 27/10/2013 19:26

I did my second parkrun this week - 4 minutes faster than my first (just over 28 minutes), so pretty pleased. I'm rubbish at getting the pacing right though, so something to work on. I might make DH slow down and do it with me to pace me round sometime.

I enjoyed and hated it in equal measure - 5ks are hard work in a way longer runs really aren't!

Iggity · 27/10/2013 19:07

Hello fellow parkrunners. 32 down, 18 to go. Am due to qualify for my 50 t shirt on weekend of my birthday in March. Will miss it for next two weeks as on holiday this saturday and DH abroad with work following week unless I can manage to find someone to look after DS at an ungodly hour on Saturday morning. Otherwise, we will just volunteer:)

Did great south run today. Found it quite easy but probably because I wasn't going that fast! No more runs planned for time being. Need to find something for around Christmas time to train for.
